The 2024 Paris Olympics are attracting new funds for lesser-known sports and women's teams, with USA women's rugby sevens, water polo and women's track and field scoring major contributions this year. The USA women's rugby sevens team earned a $4 million gift from investor Michele Kang earlier this week. Flavor Flav announced a five-year partnership with USA water polo, which includes funds for the 2024 USA women's team as well as serving as the "official hype man" for both the men's and women's teams. Smith was born with severe hearing loss in both of his ears and relies on lip-reading to understand what his volleyball teammates and coaches are saying. Smith began playing volleyball aged 14, initially as a summertime hobby outside of his regular sporting passion: Soccer. NANTERRE, France — Katie Ledecky is now the most decorated woman in American Olympic history. Ledecky earned a silver medal as part of the U.S. women’s 4×200-meter freestyle relay Thursday night at the Paris Games, giving her 13 Olympic medals throughout her illustrious career. On Wednesday, Ledecky took gold in the women’s 1500-meter freestyle, her eighth Olympic gold medal and 12th overall, which tied her with Americans Jenny Thompson, Dara Torres and Natalie Coughlin. She is the heavy favorite to win her fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal in that event Saturday night. With one more gold, Ledecky will tie Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina for the most gold medals for any female Olympian in history.

PARIS — Iga Swiatek, the world No. 1, will have to settle for a bronze medal at best in the Olympic tennis tournament after losing to Zheng Qinwen of China. Zheng triumphed 6-2, 7-5, coming back from 0-4 down in the second set after the Pole and four-time French Open champion looked to have started rolling downhill. Even when, at 1-2 down in the first set, she immediately broke Zheng back to love, Swiatek could not sustain the shift in momentum. Swiatek will now face either Donna Vekic of Croatia or Anna Karolina Schmiedlova of Slovakia in the bronze medal match, while Zheng will play the other for Olympic gold.

Biles held off a spirited challenge from brilliant Brazilian Rebeca Andrade, who once again won silver and Biles’ teammate Suni Lee took the bronze. Her artistry and rhythm were infectious and, until her final floor exercise penalty, she turned in an incredibly solid, well-rounded performance. At the World Championships last year, Andrade took gold in the vault, while Biles took silver.
