Here are eight companies or areas of the market that Muhlenkamp said he's bullish on. Regardless of what's happened in the economy or markets, the veteran investor's namesake Muhlenkamp Fund (MUHLX) has found a way to dominate. Although energy stocks have since reversed to become the worst-performing sector of 2023, Muhlenkamp said he's stuck with the group while riding the broad rebound in technology stocks. Two other tech companies Muhlenkamp mentioned are semiconductor firms Broadcom (AVGO) and Microchip (MCHP). Outside of technology, Muhlenkamp said he continues to like stocks tied to housing and financials, including certain regional banks.

While it received a lot of buzz, so did a surprising guitar solo from Apple exec Craig Federighi. Federighi demonstrated his guitar skills again during an interview this week. But a guitar solo from one Apple executive during the livestream may have stolen the show. In the pre-recorded video clip from the WWDC keynote stream, Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president of software engineering, is shown wearing a leather jacket and holding a triple-neck electric guitar. Gruber, who runs the Apple-focused blog DaringFireball.net, was also joined by Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing.

Apple execs didn't mention AI once during the company's WWDC keynote. It was a deliberate choice and a stark contrast to other Big Tech companies that have embraced the term. During Microsoft, Meta, Alphabet, and Amazon's first quarter earnings calls in April, AI was cumulatively mentioned 168 times, for example. Most other Big Tech companies would likely tout these as "AI innovations" to appeal to the current enthusiasm around the term. The word wasn't mentioned one time during the entire keynote, even though many rivals would likely use the word to describe the Vision Pro headset.

Apple has chosen AR/VR as the next big area to pursue with its new Vision Pro glasses. The product, which was shown off during an extensive demo by Apple on Monday, is called Apple Vision Pro (AVP). It represents years of research and the first major Apple product launched without the guiding hand and showmanship of the late Steve Jobs (if one doesn't count the Apple AirPods or Watch as major new products, and I do not.) And the Vision Pro isn't likely to have one either. Apple's Vision Pro can be used for FaceTime conversations AppleWith just their eyes, consumers already have large-screen viewing and playing experiences with 4K monitors on their walls connected to excellent video game consoles.

related investing news Here's what analysts are saying about Apple's new Vision Pro headset The promise of Apple's new mixed-reality headset isn't really about the headset I got to take one for a test drive. The Vision Pro isn't large enough to fit glasses if you wear them. Even though most of the focus with Apple Vision is on the visuals, I was equally impressed by the audio. The Vision Pro has a pair of speakers that sit near your temples and provide a surround sound effect. But as someone who has tried just about every mainstream headset to date so far, I can tell you that Vision Pro feels like a $3,500 machine.

This is the reality for Apple's Vision Pro mixed-reality headset: It's another pair of nerd goggles that will make most people look decidedly uncool. For now, the Vision Pro has failed to do pull this off. Its hard to imagine Apple Vision Pro ever becoming cool. Would she be impressed by a guy wearing a $3,499 Apple Pro Vision headset? The ultimate goal is probably to pack all the prowess of the Vision Pro into a cool slim pair of glasses.

It'll be the company's first major new product since the first Apple Watch in 2014. Apple's goggles are expected be sleekly designed and capable of toggling between totally virtual or augmented options, a blend sometimes known as "mixed reality." Magic LeapDaniel Diez, Magic Leap's chief transformation officer, said there are four major questions Apple's goggles will have to answer: "What can people do with it? The anticipation that Apple's goggles are going to sell for several thousand dollars already has dampened expectations for the product. But those forecasts were obviously made before it's known whether Apple might be releasing a product that alters the landscape.

When cities and states rolled back lockdown rules, many implemented new orders for restaurants to help with contact tracing, such as requiring customers to book tables in advance. As a result of those pandemic-fueled changes, restaurants and the companies that help them book their tables are targeting big spenders with premium reservation options to drive higher sales. About two-thirds of SevenRooms' restaurant clients use its software to promote special experiences or sell upgrades when customers book reservations. Page said the move toward premium restaurant reservations can partially explain why it feels like it's so much more competitive to book a table in advance these days. "I kind of don't like the whole 'Disney FastPass line' of restaurant reservations," he said.
[1/2] Apple CEO Tim Cook gestures during the inauguration of India's first Apple retail store in Mumbai, India, April 18, 2023. Cook is betting that those markets will provide more opportunities for growth, with their youthful populations and relatively few iPhones. "We're putting efforts in a number of these markets and really see, particularly given our low share and the dynamics of the demographics, a great opportunity for us in those markets," Cook told investors during a conference call. India led the growth with a 19% jump, according to Counterpoint, with iPhones accounting for 11% of secondary smartphone sales in India. In an interview with Reuters on Thursday, Apple's Cook said little of Apple's direct iPhone revenue comes from refurbished devices.

This Skort Is the Best Summer Clothing Item I’ve Ever Purchased

By Madeline DiamondDressing for the summertime (especially in hot and sticky New York City) has always been a pain for me. For the past two summers, I’ve lived in the brand’s Sport Skort. Instead, I’m full of confidence when I wear it, thanks to the security of built-in bike shorts that have a compressive but not restrictive fit. Plus, the summer heat was no match for the skort’s soft, stretchy blend of RPET (a fabric sourced from recycled plastic bottles) and spandex. Up close, its texture looks like a typical pair of leggings, yet the fabric’s matte finish makes it blend nicely with dressier clothing.

Both the DoorDash driver and the wounded woman were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Apple mainly assembles iPhones in India through Taiwan contract manufacturers but plans to expand into iPads and AirPods, as it looks to cut reliance on China. His comments came after a meeting on Wednesday with Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook in the capital, New Delhi. He inaugurated an Apple store in New Delhi on Thursday two days after opening its first outlet in Mumbai, the commercial capital. "We've come here only to see Tim Cook," said Manika Mehta, 32, an Android phone user who queued at the Delhi store. I'm drawn to Tim Cook, seeing the man he is and the journey."
When Cook took the helm of the tech giant in August 2011, he faced widespread skepticism that he could effectively fill Steve Jobs' shoes, he recently told GQ. The criticism didn't stop there — Cook has since faced backlash for his pay package, Apple's return to work policy and his idea of innovation. Cook even faced criticism from Jobs himself, according to Walter Isaacson's 2011 biography "Steve Jobs." Cook himself has a net worth of $1.9 billion, according to Forbes — much of that due to Apple's financial success. I think he was a once-in-a-hundred-years kind of individual, an original by any stretch of the imagination," Cook told GQ.
