The trio of Poulter, Garcia and Westwood have played in 28 Ryder Cups between them. The DP World Tour added it would provide further updates on other sanctioned members on Thursday. This year's Ryder Cup takes place at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club near Rome from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1. Garcia is the Ryder Cup's record points scorer with 28.5, while Westwood has played a record 11 matches, being part of seven winning teams. Poulter, another Ryder Cup stalwart, has played a key role in some of Europe's biggest successes in the biennial contest against the United States.
May 3 (Reuters) - A well-rested Jason Day will return to competition this week for the first time since enduring a horror finish to last month's Masters that the Australian revealed on Wednesday was due to another bout of vertigo. "So last round of the Masters I had vertigo, so that was obviously not fun to play in that final round," world number 34 Day told reporters ahead of this week's Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina. "We had to finish our third round Sunday morning and then I was sitting in the caddie hut and that's when I got vertigo." Day said he has not had "too many bouts" of vertigo since 2015 and that when it would return it would typically last for about three holes and then gradually get better. The Australian was even considered a contender going into the Masters given a return to form that had produced five top-10 finishes in seven events going into the year's first major.
CNN —It’s been quite the year for Jon Rahm – and he’s got the prize money to prove it. A runner-up finish at the Mexico Open on Sunday took the Spaniard’s PGA Tour season earnings to $14,462,840, setting a new Tour record for money earned in a single season. With $49,486,883 in total earnings since joining the PGA Tour in 2016, Rahm looks set to pass the $50 million mark imminently upon his return. The American had finished joint-second, one shot shy, of Rahm at last year’s event, but improved his total by eight shots to end on 24-under and clinch his sixth PGA Tour title. Orlando Ramirez/Getty ImagesGiven his form, Rahm looks well-placed to add to his two majors and 11 PGA Tour titles this year, but the 28-year-old is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.
"The Board fully supports the use of the Goldman Sachs planes for travel, just as it supported the use of private aircraft by previous Goldman Sachs executives," said Tony Fratto, a company spokesman. "Executives at Goldman Sachs have been flying on private aircrafts for decades as it is proven to be the most secure, effective, and cost-efficient solution to meet the extensive travel obligations for CEOs of firms like Goldman Sachs — which is why all of our peer institutions also extensively use private aircraft." John Waldron, president of Goldman Sachs Reuters/Brendan McDermidOccasionally, Solomon and Waldron switch planes, particularly when Waldron flies overseas. Goldman Sachs has a sponsorship deal with pro golfer Patrick Cantlay. "These estimates wildly overstate the cost of such flights to Goldman Sachs and are not an accurate representation," he said.

SYDNEY, April 20 (Reuters) - After falling short in their bid to gatecrash the Masters, the stars of LIV Golf break fresh ground in Adelaide this weekend when they take the rebel tour to Australia for the first time. The fourth of the 14 events on the schedule in the second season of LIV Golf was all but guaranteed a warm reception Down Under, despite concerns in some quarters that its Saudi backers are engaged in "sportswashing". "Obviously we're going there to win," said the 29-year-old world number six, who defected to LIV for a reported $140 million after his British Open triumph last year. Former world number one and twice major champion Martin Kaymer will make his return after six months on the sidelines recovering from a wrist injury as captain of "Cleeks". Having been pointedly excluded from Augusta, LIV Golf Commissioner Greg Norman has been ubiquitous in the media in his homeland this week promoting his product.
CNN —Tiger Woods has completed “successful” surgery on his ankle following his withdrawal from The Masters earlier this month, the 47-year-old announced Wednesday. The surgery, performed at HSS Sports Medicine Institute in New York City, was deemed to be “successful” by Dr Martin O’Malley, according to a post from Woods’ Twitter account. “Earlier today, Tiger Woods underwent a subtalar fusion procedure to address post-traumatic arthritis from his previous talus fracture,” the statement said. Woods walks with his caddie Joe LaCava during the first round of The Masters. Andrew Redington/Getty ImagesWoods’ withdrawal at Augusta sparked further questions about his future in game, with Woods himself unsure as to how many Masters appearances he had left in him.
The triumphant pair on Sunday will also receive a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour. The Fitzpatrick brothers will pair together at the Zurich Classic. The golf world is very different from when I started to when he’s playing now so he’s going to focus on the Challenge Tour probably, he’s excited for that. Yet Fitzpatrick – dubbed the hardest-working golfer on the PGA Tour – has no intention of accepting his place in the food chain. “I’m constantly looking at ways to improve and get better, and that’s what’s really important is to keep pushing myself and try and catch them up.”

Tired Rahm working on Spanish-inspired Masters Champions dinner

A tradition of Masters week is the previous year's winner choosing what is served when former champions gather on the Tuesday of tournament week in the clubhouse at Augusta National Golf Club. Rahm wants to talk with twice Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal, who is from the same part of Spain as him, to learn what he served at his Champions Dinners. While Rahm received plenty of congratulatory messages after his Masters win, a stand-out one came from 22-times Grand Slam tennis champion and compatriot Rafa Nadal. The 28-year-old Rahm said this year's Masters, where play was suspended early on two days because of weather, was demanding physically and mentally. If I was one of the kids, I would want to see the recent Masters champion play good or bad, just want to be there," said Rahm.

AUGUSTA, Ga.—Midway through the Masters, Phil Mickelson made a prediction that was easy to write off, coming from a 52-year-old who spent the past year as a lightning rod for controversy and the face of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league. “I’m ready to go on a tear,” he said.

I hope it isn’t too late to discuss the sporting event of the weekend, which really has a chance to go down as one of the greatest sporting events of the year. Not the golf Masters, though congratulations to the impressive first-time green jacket Jon Rahm—and also to second-place finisher Phil Mickelson, you crazy, slimmed-down, 52-year-old, 65-shooting Augusta National pirate.

Patrick Reed, who won the Masters in 2018, was a further shot back with a share of fourth, while Joaquin Niemann was the next best from LIV Golf as he ended up tied for 16th. This year's Masters was the first since LIV Golf launched last June, and 18 players from the lucrative circuit, whose 54-hole tournaments with no cuts have raised talk about their competitiveness, teed it up in the year's first major. Koepka said nobody should be surprised to see that he and his LIV Golf peers posed a threat at Augusta National, which is one of the game's biggest stages. Although it proved too little too late for Mickelson, the six-time major said he and the others from LIV Golf were not out to prove a point to other players in the field. Augusta National cleared the way last December for eligible players from LIV Golf to compete in the year's first major.

Ballesteros, who died of brain cancer in 2011, inspired a generation of golfers in his country and counts two Masters titles among his five major championships. With victory all but sewn up, Rahm pulled his drive into the trees on the last and hit a provisional. April 10 (Reuters) - A golf ball Tiger Woods gave to a young fan during the final round of his victorious 1997 Masters tournament has sold for $64,124, auction house Golden Age Auctions said on Sunday. Woods bogeyed the fifth hole and handed the ball to Julian Nexsen, who was nine-years-old at the tie. According to the auctioneers, "dozens of people" witnessed the moment Woods handed the ball to Nexsen. Nexsen has signed a legal declaration certifying the authenticity of the golf ball and the story of his final round interaction with Woods. In November last year a signed Woods ball sold for a record $186,000, Heritage Auctions said.
McIlroy withdraws from RBC Heritage after missing Masters cut

McIlroy bid for a career Grand Slam ended when he shot a disappointing second-round 77 after being a favorite to win his first Green Jacket at Augusta National heading into the major. McIlroy will not be replaced by an alternate, with the field reduced to 143 players for the tournament on Hilton Head Island, where Jordan Spieth is the defending champion. The 33-year-old McIlroy, who captured the last of his four majors in 2014, had been hoping to win the Masters so that he could join Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tiger Woods as the only players to achieve the career Grand Slam. Jon Rahm Rallies to Win the Masters

AUGUSTA, Ga.—When Brooks Koepka and Jon Rahm stepped onto the first tee for the final round of the Masters on Sunday, they were more than just two of the world’s best golfers vying to add another major win to their résumés. They were also proxies representing both sides of golf’s great divide. Koepka, who led by two strokes after 54 holes, had a strong chance to become the first player to win a major championship after joining the Saudi-backed LIV Golf circuit last year. Rahm, meanwhile, remained at the top of the PGA Tour—and was the player with the best chance of chasing down Koepka at Augusta.
Critics of LIV Golf have branded the Saudi-bankrolled big-money venture as uncompetitive and little more than a sportwashing enterprise by a country eager to polish its human rights record. A Koepka victory will not end the human rights questions but would give the rebel circuit some of the credibility and legitimacy it craves. The 47-year-old American has won the Masters five times, most recently in 2019, but he has struggled since his car crash. "I am disappointed to have to WD (withdraw) this morning due to reaggravating my plantar fasciitis," Woods said on Twitter. "Thank you to the fans and to The Masters who have shown me so much love and support.
Woods withdraws from Masters due to foot injury

"I am disappointed to have to WD (withdraw) this morning due to reaggravating my plantar fasciitis," Woods said on Twitter. But in unforgiving conditions on a cold Saturday with heavy rain falling, Woods was visibly limping and made back-to-back double bogeys. Last year, in his second start after the crash, Woods withdrew from the PGA Championship after carding one of his worst rounds at a major tournament -- a nine-over 79. American Brooks Koepka leads Spaniard Jon Rahm by four shots with the third round of the Masters yet to be completed.
The Amateur With an Attitude Vying to Win the Masters

AUGUSTA, Ga.—Amateurs at the Masters are supposed to gush about the famous country club that hosts the event, giddily sleep in a room called the Crow’s Nest and revere Bobby Jones. Then they usually get out of the way to let the pros battle it out. Sam Bennett isn’t one of those amateurs.

[1/5] Golf - The Masters - Augusta National Golf Club - Augusta, Georgia, U.S. - April 8, 2023 General view of the 14th green as play resumes during the second round REUTERS/Brian SnyderAUGUSTA, Georgia, April 8 (Reuters) - The weather-interrupted second round of the Masters resumed under steady rain on Saturday with Spaniard Jon Rahm looking to catch clubhouse leader Brooks Koepka at Augusta National where tournament officials hope to get the major back on track. With temperatures around 48 Fahrenheit (8 Celsius) and the rainy and windy conditions expected to persist throughout the day, players will be in for a gruelling session. If Woods makes the cut, he would tie Gary Player and Fred Couples for most consecutive cuts made at the Masters (23). First-round co-leader Viktor Hovland was one over through his first 10 holes before Friday's play was halted and six shots behind Koepka. Reporting by Frank Pingue in Augusta, Georgia; Editing by Ken FerrisOur Standards: The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles.
One of the pre-tournament favourites, McIlroy's disappointment dragged on into Saturday as 39 players returned to complete their weather hit rounds where the cut line was set at three over. Major winners Bryson DeChambeau, Sergio Garcia and Bubba Watson along with Jason Kokrak all missed the cut. Tiger Woods made the cut but by the skin of his teeth when good friend Justin Thomas bogeyed the 17th moving the cut line to three over. "I've always loved this golf course, and I love playing this event," said Woods at the end of his round before the cut line had been set. Couples also became the oldest player in Masters history to make the cut when the 63-year-old returned a second round two-over 74 for a one-over total.
"It's a shame I didn't get the chance to finish yesterday," Lyle told reporters. But, no, they stuck to the rules and rules are rules and we had to abide by that." The crowds that gave Lyle a standing ovation as he made his way to the 18th green on Friday also protested as chants of "Let him putt, Let him putt" rang out. "They have been very supportive," smiled Lyle, who got celebrations started on Friday with tequila and whiskey tasting into the early morning. After hometown hero Mize tapped in for an eight-over 80 Lyle made his way onto the green handing the Augusta native a tissue and jokingly wiped his eyes.
Her career has been marked by record-breaking performances, a slew of championship titles, and she could surpass the college record of Tiger Woods. Most recently, she won the highly prestigious 2023 Augusta National Women's Amateur, or ANWA, tournament. "I'll be super, super busy," Zhang said in an interview with the "No Laying Up" podcast days before ANWA. But more stress doesn't often lead to better results, Zhang said, which forced her to make a simple yet significant mindset shift. It might just be a coincidence that Zhang's first-time ANWA victory happened once she adopted a lower-pressure mentality, but it could also be psychology at work.
