"The trend was inevitable," said Teresa Ghilarducci, professor of economics at The New School for Social Research in New York.
"The lack of affordable childcare may be playing a role," according to Richard Fry, a senior researcher at Pew.
"The childcare crisis, which was simmering prior to the pandemic, has come to a boil," according to a KPMG analysis.
A study by the Pew Research Center found that men who are not college-educated leave the workforce at higher rates than men who are.
"When you don't get rewarded for working, you work less," Fry said.
