For years, low interest rates fuelled a global boom, igniting interest in German property, seen as safe and stable as the country. The health of Germany's property sector - Europe's biggest property investment market outside of Britain - is critical, making up roughly a fifth of output and providing one in 10 jobs. Late last year, Hoeglmaier put his penthouse on the market, and Euroboden closed its Frankfurt office. In 2020, as the property market heated up, the Bundesbank warned the country's banks, for whom property accounted for about 70% of all domestic loans, of the risks. The 380-square meter (4,090 square foot) penthouse, which occupies the fifth through seventh floors and includes a rooftop terrace, originally listed for just under 13 million euros.

The year’s most expensive sale in New York City took place in August at 220 Central Park South in Midtown, where an expansive duplex in the villa portion of the park-facing condo complex closed at $80 million. It sold for $30 million, far less than the $110 million initially sought by the developers six years ago. The buyer was Scott Lynn, an art collector and the founder and chief executive of Masterworks, an art investment platform. The crown penthouse at the new 20-story condo at 109 East 79th Street also sold, for $35 million, which was the month’s second biggest sale. The full-floor unit has 5,721 square feet, plus an additional 3,666 square feet of outdoor space.

Mark Radcliffe spent over 12 years in NYC before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in September 2020. I got his point, but after 12 years in the city, I decided to move to Tulsa, Oklahoma. The $10,000 wasn't my biggest motivation — I wanted to embark on a new adventure with like-minded risk-takers and lower my living expenses. Courtesy of Mark RadcliffeI bought a used piano for the living room, started hosting music-themed cocktail parties and dinners regularly, and built a new community. Carrière’s mother, Jennifer Bartlett (1941-2022), was an American conceptual artist renowned for her “massive canvases” that moved from mathematical abstraction into realism. In 1983, she married the author’s father, Mathieu Carrière, a German intellectual, activist and actor whose first starring role was in “Young Törless,” directed by Volker Schlöndorff. Even before her parents’ divorce, when she was 6, Carrière grew up shuttling back and forth between a 17,000-square-foot townhouse in New York City’s West Village and a penthouse in Paris, according to her parents’ work and social schedules. “It was hard to know what was true in my house,” she writes. “I had taken something of my father’s into me, something intimate — his liquids and his lonely need,” she writes.

Just last year, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s political fortunes almost collapsed over his wealthy wife’s privileged tax status in Britain. Yet last week, when Mr. Sunak and his family spent a 10-day vacation at their multimillion-dollar penthouse apartment in Santa Monica, Calif., there was scarcely a peep about it in the British papers. The difference, analysts said, attests both to evolving views of Mr. Sunak, a onetime hedge fund manager who became prime minister last October, and to Downing Street’s shrewd media management of the Sunak family’s American vacation. The family stayed largely under the radar, emerging only for a carefully staged photo opportunity at an amusement park on the Santa Monica Pier, playing games on what was Mr. Sunak’s first vacation in nearly four years. He and his wife, Akshata Murty, also took their two young daughters, Krishna and Anoushka, to Disneyland, where, he said, he was excited to try a “Star Wars”-themed ride.

The investment banker Robert Shafir earned an enviable rate of return last month on the sale of a penthouse at 150 Charles Street, a brick-and-glass condominium in the West Village. A limited liability company linked to Mr. Shafir, a former top executive of Credit Suisse, sold the spacious apartment for $52 million to an anonymous buyer in an off-market deal; the unit had been purchased brand-new in 2016 for around $29.4 million. Off-market deals, a.k.a. whisper listings, where properties are typically not listed publicly, have become increasingly common in the luxury market since the pandemic. The sale on Charles Street was the priciest in New York City during the month of July and among several big closings taking place in Lower Manhattan.

It’s hard to beat summer in the city — except maybe on the very hottest days. And if you’re lucky enough to have a little outdoor space, like a balcony, terrace or patio, it’s even better. Christine and John Gachot, the designers who founded the New York interiors studio Gachot, have a little experience with that. The multilevel penthouse once belonged to the revered modernist architect Paul Rudolph, and it has a sweeping view of the East River, Roosevelt Island and the Pepsi-Cola sign in Long Island City from the largest terrace on the top level. “Having an outdoor space in the city is incredible,” said Mr. Gachot, 53.

Sam Bankman-Fried hobnobbed, worked, and traveled in style in FTX's prime, Bloomberg reported. Photos show him with New York City Mayor Eric Adams, playing the odd sport, and reclining in a jet. The Sam Bankman-Fried once celebrated by investors and honored on the Forbes 30 under 30 list lived well. A new collection of photos published by Bloomberg shows the one-time billionaire seemingly in his element. The photos also show a somewhat comically jarring mish-mash in aesthetics that had perhaps come to symbolize the nouveau riche of crypto.

Browsing one of the literature bulletin boards, he came across a serialized novel titled “My Beijing,” published under the pseudonym Drunken Fish. Hao’s depiction of Chengdu’s seedy underbelly became a sensation on forums like Tianya, one of the period’s largest blogging platforms. Once, a colleague recommended the novel to Hao without knowing that he was Murong Xuecun. “From the get-go, he has been completely obsessed with how people are corrupted by the environment in which they live,” says Megan Walsh, author of “The Subplot,” a book about contemporary Chinese literature. Later, at a propaganda meeting, the deputy party secretary of Chengdu criticized Hao’s fiction for damaging the city’s image.

For instance, Ellison improperly took $22.5 million in bonus payments from Alameda Research, the trading firm she helped lead as co-CEO, FTX alleged in a filing this month in Delaware bankruptcy court. July 28 (Reuters) - Here is a list of legal troubles facing former U.S. President Donald Trump, the front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. Trump said his attorneys met on Thursday with U.S. Justice Department officials, in a sign charges could come soon. Trump said on his Truth Social platform that the Department of Justice had not told his attorneys when action was likely. Officials have testified that during his final months in office, Trump pressured them with false voter fraud claims. Legal experts said Trump may have violated at least three Georgia criminal laws: conspiracy to commit election fraud, criminal solicitation to commit election fraud and intentional interference with performance of election duties.

LONDON, July 8 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden will arrive in Britain on Sunday for a brief visit during which he will meet British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and discuss climate change issues with King Charles ahead of the upcoming NATO summit. Sunak's spokesperson said their discussions would likely include the upcoming NATO summit and Ukraine. The president and the king are due to discuss climate issues, a subject on which Charles, 74, has campaigned and spoken out about for more than five decades. When the two men met at the COP26 U.N. climate summit in Scotland two years ago, Biden praised Charles' leadership on the subject, telling him "We need you badly". Following the meeting, Biden and Sunak leave Britain for Lithuania where NATO leaders will gather for a key summit.

The adtech company held panel sessions and meetings at the "MediaMath Penthouse." But behind the scenes, MediaMath CEO Neil Nguyen had barely been sleeping, according to three people familiar with the matter. "We collectively believed as a company, board, and advisors that we had a deal in hand," the statement continued. When advertisers or agencies buy ads through a platform like MediaMath, the adtech company must pay publishers immediately for their ad space. But the adtech company must wait — often 90 days or more — to be paid by the advertiser or agency.

The job of family offices, investment firms tasked with managing the fortunes of the ultra-rich, has never been about getting massive returns. Which is why Hayley Cuccinello's story on family offices investing in artificial intelligence is so fascinating. Hayley spoke to executives at family offices about how they're navigating the modern-day gold rush that is AI investing. Of course, a lot of those deals never materialized and most family offices have now largely eschewed digital currencies altogether. The difference is family offices have largely gotten in on AI long before the bandwagon arrived, Hayley reports.
