The “incident” Netanyahu referenced occurred in May and killed at least 45 people at a camp for displaced Palestinians. The airstrike injured more than 200 after a fire broke out at the camp following the strike, most of them women and children, according to the Gaza Health Ministry and Palestinian medics. In the same week of that strike, at least 29 Palestinians were killed in two separate Israeli attacks on displacement camps in Rafah, according to Palestinian and UN officials. CNN has seen firsthand video shot by stringers in Rafah and spoken to several health officials, humanitarian workers and eyewitnesses who have reported civilian fatalities as a result of Israel’s military assault on the southern city. Gaza’s Ministry of Health does not distinguish in its reporting between combatant and civilian deaths but has previously said that some 70% of casualties in all of Gaza have been women and children.

In today's big story, we're looking at another Tesla earnings report that was light on details about big future plans . The approach worked well last quarter when Tesla's earnings report was even worse than expected . However, big-picture plans without concrete details fell flat for investors this time around. It's Tesla's silver lining amid the EV market slowdown. But as beneficial as competitors were to Tesla this quarter, others seem to be gearing up for battle.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, in a defiant address to members of Congress on Wednesday, defended his country’s war with Hamas in Gaza and criticized American protesters and international human rights groups. Some of his remarks have been disputed by human rights groups, and others are unverifiable or lacked context. What Was Said“The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has shamefully accused Israel of deliberately starving the people of Gaza. Israel has enabled more than 40,000 aid trucks to enter Gaza. But the number of trucks allowed into the strip and the amount of aid they carry have been in dispute.

Washington CNN —Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will address Congress on Wednesday – seeking to shore up American support for his war in Gaza and redirect the attention of a nation that has been preoccupied for weeks by a stream of domestic political issues. Netanyahu’s address to Congress comes at a crucial crossroads for the war. Netanyahu, meanwhile, has accused the United States of “withholding weapons and ammunitions to Israel,” claims that American officials flatly rejected. After arriving in Washington earlier this week, Netanyahu met with some American relatives of hostages held by Hamas. Former President Donald Trump and Netanyahu will also meet Friday at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump announced Tuesday.

Vice President Kamala Harris will be absent from the rostrum. The rows of seats on the Democratic side of the House chamber will be conspicuously emptier than those on the Republican side. And tensions are running so high that Speaker Mike Johnson has threatened to have anyone who causes a disturbance on the floor or in the gallery above arrested. When Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel arrives on Capitol Hill on Wednesday afternoon to address a joint meeting of Congress, he will confront a legislative body divided over his leadership in the face of international censure over the war in Gaza, with some showing open hostility to the government of a country that is supposed to be among the United States’ closest allies. “I will seek to anchor the bipartisan support that is so important for Israel,” Mr. Netanyahu said before departing Israel for his visit to Washington.

For the families of the hostages held more than nine months in Gaza, there is no time to wait. The Israeli prime minister wants to meet with Biden before the Israeli delegation formally transmits its response to the mediators, the source said. US officials have been sensitive to the Knesset recess as they remain convinced that politics are at play for Netanyahu back in Israel. US officials believe it is possible that Israelis are seeking to put maximum pressure on Hamas ahead of a deal. US and Egyptian officials have begun preparing the flood of humanitarian aid that would enter Gaza if a ceasefire deal goes into effect.

With his visit to Washington this week, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel will step away from one political maelstrom and into another. This was not at all what Mr. Netanyahu had in mind when he planned his first visit to Washington in almost four years. He is supposed to meet face to face with Mr. Biden, though it is unclear when. He is also expected to meet Vice President Kamala Harris, who looks set to become the Democratic Party’s nominee for president. And the Israeli leader is set to address Congress on Wednesday, hoping to shore up support in the face of increasing international censure over the war in Gaza.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris hits the campaign trail on Tuesday for the first time since President Joe Biden announced that he would end his reelection campaign and endorsed Harris for president. Still, some key Democratic endorsements have not yet come through for Harris, such as from House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, both of New York. Former President Barack Obama, one of the parry's most revered figures, has likewise not publicly endorsed Harris yet. Speculation swirls about potential running mates for Harris, with Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Gov. While Harris campaigns in Wisconsin, Biden is expected to host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington.

CNN —Palestinian factions including rivals Hamas and Fatah have signed an agreement on “ending division and strengthening Palestinian unity,” Chinese broadcaster CCTV said Tuesday, following a deal brokered by China. There is a long history of bitter enmity between Hamas in Gaza and Fatah. Israel launched its military operations in Gaza following Hamas’ October 7 attack that killed more than 1,100 people and saw roughly 250 others kidnapped. Around 39,000 Palestinians have died in Israel’s war in Gaza that has triggered a mass humanitarian crisis and widespread destruction. Hamas and Fatah signed a reconciliation agreement in Cairo in October 2017 under pressure from the Arab states, led by Egypt.

Former President Donald J. Trump, who often calls himself the staunchest ally of Israel to ever sit in the Oval Office, will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel on Friday in Palm Beach, Fla., Mr. Trump said on Tuesday. “Looking forward to welcoming Bibi Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago,” Mr. Trump wrote in a post on his social media site, referring to his private club and residence. (Mr. Trump announced three different dates: An initial post on Tuesday afternoon said he would meet with Mr. Netanyahu on Wednesday, then he deleted that post and replaced it with one saying Thursday. Mr. Netanyahu and Mr. Trump were close allies during Mr. Trump’s presidency. Approximately 80 House Democrats and at least six Democratic senators are expected to skip Netanyahu’s speech on Wednesday, according to sources and public statements reviewed by CNN. House Democratic leadership has given their members room to make their own decisions about whether to attend the speech. Senate President Pro Tempore Patty Murray, a Washington state Democrat, also declined to preside over the speech, leaving Senate Foreign Relations Chair Ben Cardin, a Democrat from Maryland, to preside, a source familiar told CNN. “I’m not attending the Netanyahu address because I don’t want to condone his behavior over the last 10 months,” Jacobs told CNN. “This is a war criminal that nobody, not a single one of our elected officials should be meeting with Netanyahu,” JVP communications director Sonya Meyerson-Knox told CNN.

CNN —A group of senior Israeli figures including former national security officials, academics and business leaders have sent US congressional leadership a blistering letter accusing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is set to speak to Congress on Wednesday, of threatening both Israeli and American national security. “Netanyahu severely harms the US national security interests through his approach to this war, which adversely impacts American policy in the Middle East and beyond and further endangers Israel,” it continues. The Obama White House had been blindsided by Netanyahu’s decision to address Congress after another invitation from a Republican House speaker, John Boehner. Typically, a vice president, in their role as president of the Senate, would attend and sit prominently on the dais. However, Vice President Kamala Harris will also miss Netanyahu’s Wednesday speech due to travel, which Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan said Friday he did not expect to be a repeat of 2015.

Netanyahu has known President Joe Biden for decades, but Biden doubts Netanyahu’s sincerity. Netanyahu earned the undying enmity of former President Barack Obama for trying to tank the Iran nuclear deal. Trump turned opposition to the Iran nuclear deal into a major campaign issue in 2016. Despite his long relationship with Netanyahu, Biden has criticized the Israeli leader’s government for being too right-wing. But for all his criticism of Netanyahu, Biden has continued to provide Israel with weapons and aid, and the two men will meet at the White House.

But as detailed ceasefire negotiations aimed at turning a framework agreement into a final deal stretch into their third week, Netanyahu’s visit will still be critical to the prospects of a ceasefire in Gaza. Senior US officials say a deal is within reach, but the prospects of a deal may hinge on the answer to one key question: Does Netanyahu actually want a deal? And the right-wing coalition partners keeping him in power have threatened to bolt if Netanyahu cuts a deal that ends the war. And publicly, his rhetoric has undermined confidence in Israel’s commitment to reaching a deal that could end the war. And Netanyahu’s allies insist he is earnest in his desire to strike a hostage release deal – just the right deal, one that could allow Israel to resume fighting in Gaza.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel is unlikely to immediately change his approach to the Gaza war following President Biden’s decision to stand aside, even if he may privately welcome the president’s departure from the race, analysts said. Mr. Netanyahu would most likely have freer rein in Gaza under a potential new Trump administration, but the prime minister must still work with Mr. Biden for the next six months, leaving him with little immediate room for maneuver, they said. Until January, Mr. Biden will control the delivery of U.S. munitions to Israel, as well as the level of U.S. diplomatic support at the United Nations at a time when global scrutiny of Israel has rarely been higher. “Of course, Netanyahu benefits from a politically weak Biden, who is blamed by the Israeli right for restraining Israel,” said Mazal Mualem, an Israeli political commentator and a biographer of Mr. Netanyahu. “But Biden is still president and Netanyahu needs him,” she said.

CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris declined to preside over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress on Wednesday, a source familiar with the matter told CNN. Harris’ aide cited a previously scheduled event as the reason for missing the speech Wednesday. A date for the Netanyahu-Harris meeting has not been announced, but it will be separate from President Joe Biden’s planned meeting with the Israeli prime minister. The closely watched bilateral will mark Harris’ first meeting with a world leader since Biden stepped aside from his reelection campaign and endorsed Harris’ candidacy. Israel’s military said on Sunday that it had intercepted a missile fired from Yemen, suggesting that the Yemen-based Houthi militia would keep trying to strike Israel, despite the bombing by Israeli fighter jets of a port in Yemen on Saturday. The Houthis, which are backed by Iran, said in a post on the Telegram messaging app that they had launched the missile at Eilat, Israel’s southernmost city on the coast of the Red Sea, “in response to the American, British and Israeli aggression against our country.”The conflict between Israel and the Houthis is escalating at a time when the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is also fighting Hamas in Gaza and trading aerial attacks with Hezbollah, a militia also backed by Iran, across its northern border with Lebanon. Israeli air defenses intercepted a missile that “approached Israeli territory from Yemen” following an air raid siren in the Eilat area, according to a statement by the Israel Defense Forces. The area is a popular beach resort, and mid-July is high season for Israeli vacationers.

CNN —For the first time, Israel has struck inside Yemen, following a deadly drone attack launched by Houthi rebels on Tel Aviv. The US and UK have responded to those attacks by carrying out strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen. A tipping point for Israel appears to have come on Friday, when a drone attack was launched on Tel Aviv, killing one Israeli citizen and injuring several others. Gavin Newsom of California, had previously said he would not challenge Ms. Harris. He often rambles incoherently in interviews and at campaign rallies and has confused names, dates and facts just as Mr. Biden has. Mr. Biden consistently maintained that his experience was an advantage, enabling him to pass landmark legislation and manage foreign policy crises. He maintained that he was the Democrat best equipped to defeat Mr. Trump given that he did so in 2020. Judges at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) rule on emergency measures against Israel following accusations by South Africa that the Israeli military operation in Gaza is a state-led genocide, in The Hague, Netherlands, January 26, 2024. The United Nations' highest court said on Friday that Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories and settlements there are illegal and should be withdrawn as soon as possible, in its strongest findings to date on the Israel-Palestinian conflict. The advisory opinion by judges at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), known as the World Court, was not binding but carries weight under international law and may weaken support for Israel. The court said Israel's obligations include paying restitution for harm and "the evacuation of all settlers from existing settlements". "The Jewish nation cannot be an occupier in its own land," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement.
