Impressive collections can be found in many parts of the world, but which park currently holds more roller coasters than any other? With a whopping 20 roller coasters, Six Flags Magic Mountain even rates a mention with Guinness World Records – helping the park justify its “Thrill Capital of the World” slogan. “I think there are a lot of great rides at Six Flags Magic Mountain.” he told CNN Travel recently. “But there are some other more fundamental reasons for why Six Flags Magic Mountain has so many roller coasters.”Location, prosperity and weather all played roles, he said. They’re fast, they’re twisty.”GoliathMartin Lewison said Goliath has the biggest drop of any traditional-style roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain.
Stew Leonard Sr., a folkloric retailer who expanded his namesake stores into merchandising meccas replete with petting zoos and mechanical singing farm animals, died on Wednesday at a hospital in Manhattan. Mr. Leonard opened his original store in Norwalk, Conn., in 1969 as a destination that promised fresh milk because it was built around a bottling plant. “You’d have to own a cow to get it sooner,” his advertisements proclaimed. Bryan Miller described it in The New York Times as the “Disneyland of Dairy Stores”; “Ripley’s Believe It or Not” called it the “World’s Largest Dairy Store”; and it earned a place in the Guinness World Records for having the highest dollar sales per square foot of selling space. In 2015, Business Insider praised Kroger’s customer loyalty program and Wegmans’s walk-in beer locker, but it concluded that anyone who had ever set foot in Stew Leonard’s “knows it is miles above the rest.”

Roberts was one of thousands of runners to complete the London Marathon on Sunday which raised millions for charitable causes.
Nearly 300 T. rex bones dug up from three US sites were assembled into a single skeleton dubbed "Trinity." It was the first time such a T. rex skeleton was put up for auction in Europe. Including the "buyer's premium" and fees, the sale came to 5.5 million Swiss francs (about $6.1 million), Koller said. The Koller auction house in Zurich identified the new owner as The Phoebus Foundation, which is backed by the engineering and logistics conglomerate Katoen Natie-Indaver. The auction house said the skull was particularly rare and also remarkably well-preserved.

GDYNIA, Poland, April 20 (Reuters) - At 88, Polish retiree Piotr Dudek is hoping to officially become the world's oldest windsurfer - still relishing the battle with the wind and waves as he takes to the water and teaches children to enjoy the sport. Dudek has been windsurfing for 40 years and is known by the nickname "Junior", coined for him by his friends when he was around 80. "The challenge is to learn to surf and to control the elements, nature, because it is a struggle with the wind, with water, with a wobbly board. It is a sport that requires a lot of physical fitness," said Dudek, who was a sailor before he retired. But the fact that he could be the world's oldest surfer took him by surprise.

London CNN —Japan’s Sega, the company behind Sonic the Hedgehog, is buying Rovio Entertainment in a cash deal that values the creator of Angry Birds at €706 million ($774 million). The company’s prime asset, Angry Birds, which launched in 2009, became the first mobile game series to reach 1 billion downloads, according to Guinness World Records. Two Boeing engineers made a paper airplane that flew almost the entire length of a football field. They set a Guinness World Record after their paper airplane flew 289 feet 9 inches. Two Boeing engineers designed a paper airplane that flew almost the entire length of a football field, smashing the world record. They put their final design to the test on December 2, 2022, in Crown Point, Indiana, and broke the world record on the third throw. The previous record for the farthest flight by a paper airplane was 252 feet 7 inches (77 meters) achieved by a trio from Malaysia and South Korea in April 2022.
Beatriz Flamini, an elite sportswoman, mountaineer and climber, is said by her support team to have broken a world record for longest time spent in a cave. She was 48 when she went into the cave, and celebrated two birthdays alone underground. WOOLLY HATSFlamini spent her time underground doing exercises to keep her fit and busy, painting and drawing and knitting woolly hats. She took two GoPro cameras to document her time, and got through 60 books and 1,000 litres of water, according to her support team. A spokesman for Guinness was not able to immediately confirm whether there was a separate record for voluntary time living in a cave and whether Flamini had broken it.
The engineers had to pay careful attention to the numerous rules and guidelines set forth by the Guinness World Record Team. I didn’t think we could get useful data from a simulation on a paper airplane. The Guinness paper plane record for duration of flight is currently 29.2 seconds. From origami enthusiasts to aerospace engineersRuble and Jensen began their paper plane engineering careers while in middle school, participating in paper airplane events held at Boeing. For those looking to create their own record-breaking paper plane design, the feat is not impossible, but may take some time (and skill).

A license plate believed the world's most expensive just sold for $15 million. Emirates Auction, which auctioned off the license plate in Dubai on Saturday, said that it was a new record. The most expensive license plate sold prior to the weekend's auction was the single digit "1," according to the Guinness World Records. In Hong Kong, a license plate with just the letter "R" sold for 25.5 million Hong Kong dollars, or around $3.2 million, in February. Dubai-based businessman, Balvinder Singh Sahni, told Bloomberg that he had bought the license plate "D 5" for 33 million dirhams in 2016.
When it comes to Guinness World Records, not all are created equal. But some Guinness World Records just require a lot of cheese, a lot of butter and a little bit of gold. Since 2014, New York City's Serendipity3 has laid claim to the Guinness World Record for the world's most expensive sandwich: a grilled cheese that costs a whopping $214. The sandwich is served on made-to-order French bread which is made with Dom Perignon champagne and has edible gold flakes baked into it. Each sandwich gets roughly a half pound of the rare caciocavallo podolico cheese, which retails for upwards of $50 per pound.

Easy Diageo succession belies new CEO’s hard job

On Tuesday, the 80 billion pound maker of Guinness and Don Julio tequila announced that Chief Operating Officer Debra Crew would replace CEO Ivan Menezes in July. Menezes has been gunning for 5%-7% annual revenue growth and a 6%-9% annual increase in operating profit over the next three years. The company operates with a 31% operating profit margin, higher than its closest rival Pernod Ricard (PERP.PA), which runs on 29%. With the price of staff, ingredients and packaging soaring, cost cutting will be hard to pull off. Diageo’s smooth succession may lay the path for a bumpy road.

Growth stocks have been enjoying a rebound after a miserable 2022. And the tech sector in particular — a favorite among investors seeking exposure to growth stocks — has been a bright spot amid the banking turmoil. "As a growth manager … one of the things we're trying to think about is, how do you identify good growth businesses?" He said one of the biggest risks of growth investing is paying too much today for future growth. Future growth is very difficult to predict, he said, adding that historical growth isn't particularly indicative of future growth.
Investors have fled bank stocks in droves since a crisis in the sector broke out earlier this month. Fund manager Ian Mortimer is not a fan — and said he has never owned a banking stock in any of his funds. If you think about that as your starting point, the vast majority in the banking sector do not pass those criteria," he said. "The banking sector has been an area that often pays quite high dividends — sort of attractive from that perspective. So, it's a ... theory that in distress, the banking sector will reduce or potentially cancel their dividends," Mortimer added.
NVDA 1Y line Nvidia's business model centers around selling high-performance graphics processing units that are essential for running the algorithms behind artificial intelligence technologies. While Mortimer acknowledged that Nvidia is currently his most expensive holding in the $580 million Guinness Global Innovators Fund, he expects data center and cloud computing sales to continue rising. The fund manager also pointed toward Nvidia's profitability advantage relative to its peers as a reason to own the stock. According to Mortimer, this rare feature gives it an edge over competitors who may struggle with balancing these two factors. Mortimer joined Guinness Global Investors in 2006 and also manages the $3.8 billion Guinness Global Equity Income.

"There is nothing difficult for him to be in cold water... But this was completely different because it's really difficult to work with the pressure in your ears in cold water," he added.
