The possibility of Intel handing its 56-year history over to a younger rival emerged last week after several reports said that California-based semiconductor firm Qualcomm had made a takeover approach. That said, not everyone is convinced that Qualcomm needs Intel — or that a buyout would be a good idea for either company. My industry survey also indicates that Qualcomm is currently in takeover talks with Intel. A Qualcomm bid for Intel could face similar regulatory obstacles to the takeover attempt Nvidia made for Arm in 2020 and later abandoned in 2022.

For people with non-standard speech, it can happen in nearly every interaction with this kind of technology — Israeli company Voiceitt aims to change that. By using personalized voice models, its AI-powered speech recognition system helps people with speech impairments, caused by conditions like cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s, Down Syndrome or stroke, communicate more effectively with both people and digital devices. For Voiceitt co-founder Sara Smolley, facilitating speech recognition for non-standard speech patterns is a personal mission. “By the time I was born, she had lost most of her motor capabilities, and her speech was impacted.”Voiceitt was launched as an app in 2021 and operated as a simple vocal translator, converting non-standard speech to audio. Voiceitt has developed integrations with WebEx and ChatGPT, along with a Google Chrome extension, which convert non-standard speech to captions shown on the screen.

Smart glasses, many with components made in China, are emerging as an up-and-coming category as the fall consumer technology product season gets underway. Snap has revealed augmented reality glasses ; Meta is expected to do so at its own event starting Sept. 25. The Facebook-parent's Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses are already seeing traction, HSBC's Frank He, head of technology hardware research for mainland Chinese stocks, pointed out in a report earlier this month. The roughly $300 Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses allow users to take pictures, short video clips, listen to music and interact with Meta's AI features, according to promotional materials. For the year through July, the optical company's non-smartphone camera module shipments surged about 61%, which HSBC attributes to "brisk sales" of Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses.

Investment startup Intelligent Alpha is working on launching the Intelligent Omaha ETF , with the ticker AIWB, that relies on AI to emulate the Berkshire Hathaway CEO's investment philosophy and create a portfolio of 25-30 stocks that it thinks Buffett might buy. It remains to be seen how deeply AI could understand Buffett's unique investing style that has evolved significantly over seven decades. All about AI Intelligent Alpha has been testing its Buffett strategy for six months and the portfolio AI puts together would overlap Berkshire's by anywhere between 30 to 60%. "The vision for Intelligent Alpha is to build the AI-powered BlackRock," Clinton said. So I can take a photo of your face, and, through complicated AI, I could fool Face ID, for example. If it is the first time, the orb takes the iris code and cryptographically processes the iris code.
