PARIS — Olympic boxing champion Imane Khelif has filed a legal complaint in France for online harassment after a rain of criticism and false claims about her sex during the Paris Olympics, her lawyer said Sunday. The complaint was filed Friday with a special unit in the Paris prosecutor’s office for combating online hate speech, alleging “aggravated cyber-harassment” targeting Khelif, lawyer Nabil Boudi said. In a statement, he described it as a “misogynist, racist and sexist campaign” against the boxer. As is common in French law, the complaint doesn’t name an alleged perpetrator but leaves it to investigators to determine who could be at fault. False claims that Khelif was transgender or a man erupted online, and the International Olympic Committee defended her and denounced those peddling misinformation.

NEW YORK — In the Ryan Reynolds-Blake Lively box-office showdown, both husband and wife came out winners. Reynolds’ Marvel Studios smash “Deadpool & Wolverine” remained the top movie in North American theaters for the third straight week with $54.2 million in ticket sales according to studio estimates Sunday. “Deadpool & Wolverine,” though, was closely followed by “It Ends With Us,” the romance drama starring Lively, which surpassed expectations with a stellar $50 million debut. Two executives at Smartmatic, a voting machine company, were indicted in Florida on Thursday for allegedly bribing officials in the Philippines to secure contracts ahead of the 2016 election there, the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Southern District of Florida announced. “No voter fraud has been alleged and Smartmatic is not indicted. These are the values that Smartmatic lives by,” the company said in a statement. Smartmatic has since filed a major defamation suit against Fox News and its parent company over the network’s reporting on the stolen election claims. New York CNN —US stocks surged Thursday after new data on the labor market suggested that the economy may not be headed into the downward spiral that traders feared. First-time claims for unemployment benefits fell last week to 233,000 from the prior week’s upwardly revised total of 250,000, according to Department of Labor data released Thursday. “Anything in that range tends to suggest a fairly healthy labor market,” wrote economist Joseph Brusuelas on X Thursday morning. Weekly jobless claims data can be highly volatile and is frequently revised. Here's a surprise: Disney 's media business isn't weighing down the company anymore. Disney's combined streaming businesses — Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ — turned a quarterly profit for the first time ever, making $47 million. Meanwhile, Disney saw a "moderation of consumer demand towards the end of [fiscal] Q3 that exceeded our previous expectations" for its theme parks division. The company said last year it plans to invest $60 billion in its theme parks and cruise lines in the next decade. Disney shares dropped Wednesday, likely because investors were focused on the parks.
