New York CNN —Gas prices could soon soar across the Chicago metropolitan area after a tornado narrowly missed a major ExxonMobil refinery outside of Chicago Monday night, knocking out power to the facility. The refinery, know as ExxonMobil’s Joliet Refinery, is located in neighboring Channahon, Illinois. The line of storms that hit the area Monday night produced 11 tornadoes in the greater Chicago area, including the one that hit Channahon, according to the National Weather Service. It will take a few days to return the Joliet refinery to normal production, assuming no damage occurred beyond the power outage, Lipow said. The the Chicago area is already at $4.07 a gallon, according to AAA, but that average price, based on Tuesday’s prices, was down 1 cent from the previous day.

A measure of wholesale prices rose more than expected in June as Wall Street assesses when the Federal Reserve will feel comfortable cutting interest rates. The producer price index rose 0.2% last month, the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday. The PPI is a gauge of prices that producers can get for their goods and services in the open market. Friday's report comes shortly after the June consumer price index came in cooler than expected on Thursday. The Fed's preferred inflation reading is the personal consumption expenditure price index.

"Buying because the stock price has gone down without knowing some of the underlying issues or without understanding some of the underlying activities, could be problematic," says Clark Bellin, president and chief investment officer at Bellwether Wealth. After all, a stock could take major losses and then soar to new heights à la Apple. But what about that same markdown in the price of that company's stock? You'll just have to figure some things out before you buy, says Sam Stovall, chief investment strategist at CFRA. Rather than scrambling to do research, he says, keep a watchlist of stocks you'd be interested in buying at the right price.

Costco said the fee increases would affect about 52 million memberships, a little over half of which are executive memberships. Its rival, Walmart- owned Sam's Club, hiked its own membership fee in 2022 for the first time in nine years. At BJ's Wholesale, annual membership fees are $55 and $110, for club members and its own higher tier, respectively.

Costco said Wednesday that it's raising its annual membership fee. AdvertisementCostco's annual membership fee is getting more expensive. The membership prices are the same amount regardless of currency — a Gold Star membership in Canada runs 60 Canadian dollars, for example. The increase is the first time that Costco has raised its membership fee since 2017. In May, Costco CFO Gary Millerchip said that a fee increase would happen at some point, adding that it was a question "of when we increase the fee, rather than if we increase the fee."
