JPMorgan's Christian Carlino and Bank of America's Alexander Perry upped their ratings to overweight and buy, respectively, from neutral Wednesday. The Winklevii, as they came to be known after “The Social Network” movie debuted, are suing another former friend – crypto baron Barry Silbert. That indicates some investors still believe in crypto even if they’ve lost faith in its former stars. Much like social media, the Winklevii seem to be on the losing end of the crypto streak, too. Follow @AnitaRamaswamy on TwitterCONTEXT NEWSOn July 7, cryptocurrency exchange Gemini sued Digital Currency Group, the parent company of now-bankrupt crypto lender Genesis, seeking over $1.1 billion. Gemini co-founder Cameron Winklevoss claimed in a July 7 Twitter post that DCG and Silbert were partially responsible for losses affecting thousands of Gemini users.

(Reuters) - A new Missouri securities rule offers a template for Republican U.S. state officials who want to advance an “anti-woke” business agenda even as such ideas struggle for legislative backing. Ashcroft acted after Republican lawmakers failed to pass a similar measure during the state’s legislative session that ended on May 12, amid infighting over which bills should be prioritized. Concerns over costs, bureaucracy and economic fallout led to bills stalling or passing in weakened form even in so-called red states, where Republicans dominate state government. Several corporate attorneys said other Republican officials may adopt Ashcroft’s playbook and act on their own. According to a spokesperson, Ashcroft initiated the rulemaking before the legislative session began, essentially as a backup plan in case lawmakers did not act on the same idea introduced in January.

Active ETFs have attracted $100 billion of net inflows over the past 12 months, according to a report from State Street. The growth of active ETFs could help other Wall Street firms take on the industry's dominant players. Some smaller JPMorgan active equity funds that have brought in cash this year include JPMorgan Active Value ETF (JAVA) and the JPMorgan Active Growth ETF (JGRO) . Two-thirds of U.S.-centric active funds fell short of their relevant indexes in the first half, according to a report from Morningstar. Active funds did fare better than passive funds in many categories, like small cap growth — perhaps a more fair comparison, given that passive funds do include fees and trading costs — but underperformed significantly in the popular large-cap blend category, according to data from Morningstar Direct.

That same day, Broadbery achieved a different, but equally momentous, milestone in his Wall Street career. He's seen support for traditionally underrepresented groups, like the LGBTQ+ community, become institutionalized at most Wall Street firms — a welcome improvement. There's also much less stigma now around being "too gay" for Wall Street, he added. So it's like, how gay is too gay for Wall Street?" "I think Wall Street is Wall Street and in the finance industry there are certain norms and certain things you need to do to conform — the working environment, the working hours, the hierarchy, the path to promotion — those things are what they are," he said.

June 26 (Reuters) - BlackRock (BLK.N) boss Larry Fink, at the forefront of the business world's adoption of environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) standards, has stopped using the term, saying it has become too politicized. But the world's largest asset manager hasn't changed its stance on ESG issues, Fink told the Aspen Ideas Festival on Sunday. Republican politicians have attacked ESG as a way for the corporate world to implement what they argue is a politically liberal agenda, triggering a backlash from Democrats who are seeking to defend it. "I don't use the word ESG any more, because it's been entirely weaponised ... by the far left and weaponised by the far right," Fink said. "We had ... one of the best years ever, but I'm ashamed of being part of this conversation," said Fink, adding that his annual letters to investors that addressed ESG issues were never meant to be political statements.

Even as the stock market is just trying to claw its way out of a bear market, multiple Wall Street firms on Thursday raised concerns that equities are already overvalued. Following a breakout in the past month, the S & P 500 is up more than 20% from its October low and is at a 13-month high. But while an official bull market is not yet confirmed (S & P 500 needs to hit a new all-time high for that), the stock market may already be overvalued, some major strategists said. .SPX ALL mountain S & P 500 long term The S & P 500 is trading at forward price-earnings ratio of 18.8, compared to the average valuation of 15.4 times the last four decades, according to UBS. With student loan payments set to resume this fall, borrowers are likely going to have to cut back spending — and that's bad news for some retailers. About 40 million Americans have a total of nearly $1.8 trillion in outstanding student loan debt. "We regard the incremental 'essential' nature of the debt payments as likely to reduce discretionary spending by an approximately equal amount." UBS expects the pullback in apparel spending to continue as Americans shift funds to student loan payments. In fact, its analysis of U.S. consumers with student loans shows the trend is even more pronounced among those with student debt.

Wall Street landlords raised $110 billion to buy homes but have had a quiet year. One large transaction, and one large listing, could signal that investors are ready to start buying. The single-family rental market, a popular playground of Wall Street landlords in 2020 and 2021, has been in a deep-freeze for the last year. Rising borrowing costs and a shakier housing market halted most transactions, leaving idle much of the $110 billion raised to buy homes. The company, which was valued at nearly $2 billion last year, says it has facilitated more than $5 billion in deals.

A spokesperson for the hedge fund declined further comment on Thursday. Big banks typically agree terms with hedge funds that allow them to cut ties at short notice, five sources from prime brokerages and hedge funds told Reuters. Prime brokerages may now refine due diligence processes and perform more thorough background checks on hedge funds, said Jim Neumann, chief investment officer of Sussex Partners, which advises investors on how they give their money to hedge funds. But many of these agreements mainly focus on the financial viability of the hedge fund, two of the sources said. One hedge fund manager said he was asked in his due diligence with the bank if he was approved by the UK regulator, the Financial Conduct Authority.
