By completing cycling’s “Triple Crown” – as this trio of victories is known – Pogačar joins an exclusive club comprised of just Eddy Merckx, Stephen Roche and Annemiek van Vleuten. This season has confirmed the Slovenian’s status as a generational talent since, unusually for a cyclist, he can win races of almost any length and on different terrains. “The Supreme Court has a limited role to play death penalty cases,” said Paul Cassell, a University of Utah law professor who is representing a victim’s family in another death penalty case before the high court this year. Another involves an Alabama man who claims he is intellectually disabled and therefore ineligible for execution under Supreme Court precedent. The Supreme Court’s approach to death penalty appeals is “to correct severe misapplications of constitutional law by America’s state court systems,” said Seth Kretzer, a Texas attorney who has represented death row inmates at the Supreme Court. Alabama is appealing that decision to the Supreme Court and has been waiting more than year for an answer. In Oklahoma, Brenda Andrew faces the death penalty for the 2001 shooting death of her estranged husband.

CNN —Several people are hurt and a courthouse in Santa Maria, California, is closed following “a bomb explosion” Wednesday morning, officials say. “We are providing them with the highest level of care and support,” Doucette told CNN earlier in the day. Roads surrounding the courthouse are closed and the public is being urged to avoid the area, Zick said. In addition to the Santa Barbara County Superior Courthouse in Santa Maria, Santa Maria City Hall, the public library and other city offices in the area closed for the rest of the day, as police investigate “a bomb explosion,” city spokesperson Mark van de Kamp said. CNN —Several people are hurt and a courthouse in Santa Maria, California, is closed following “a bomb explosion” Wednesday morning, officials say. A suspect has been detained and is being interviewed, and the scene continues to be active after the explosion “from an intentionally set improvised explosive device,” said Santa Barbara County Sheriff spokesperson Raquel Zick in a social media post. Roads surrounding the courthouse are closed and the public is being urged to avoid the area, Zick said. In addition to the Santa Barbara County Superior Courthouse in Santa Maria, Santa Maria City Hall, the public library and other city offices in the area closed for the rest of the day, as police investigate “a bomb explosion,” city spokesperson Mark van de Kamp said. Located in California’s Central Coast, Santa Maria is about 160 miles north of Los Angeles.

After the legendary comedic actor had to pull out of a planned appearance at the recent Emmy Awards and an event in Utah, the New York Post caught up with Van Dyke as he was leaving a pharmacy in Malibu on Monday. “I feel old,” they reported a smiling Van Dyke saying when asked how he was doing. It had been announced on Monday that he would also no longer be attending a three-day fan event in Salt Lake City, Utah next weekend. The “Mary Poppins” star has continued working in recent years, including voicing himself for an episode last year of the animated series “The Simpsons.”

Wegovy, the blockbuster weight loss treatment from Novo Nordisk , tops the list of drugs that could soon become part of the second round of price negotiations between manufacturers and Medicare. The Biden administration last month announced new negotiated prices for the first 10 Medicare Part D drugs selected for the talks. He also pushed back on Medicare price negotiations when asked about the potential selection of Wegovy and Ozempic, calling the talks "price-setting" that will have negative consequences for drug innovation. Medicare Part D doesn't cover weight loss treatments unless they are approved and prescribed for another health condition. PESHAWAR, Pakistan — A roadside bomb hit a convoy of foreign diplomats visiting northwest Pakistan on Sunday, killing a police officer in their security detail, police said. Ambassadors from Indonesia, Portugal, Kazakhstan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Turkmenistan, Vietnam, Iran, Russia, and Tajikistan were among those in the convoy, police said. Police made security arrangements for the foreign ambassadors and they were immediately rescued and moved towards Pakistan's capital Islamabad, Khan said. Offering sympathies to the families of those who died, Pakistan’s foreign ministry said in a statement that “all members of the diplomatic corps have returned safely to Islamabad.”Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari also condemned the attack. Pakistani counter-terrorist forces maintain a strong presence in the Swat valley, which has long been a hotbed of Islamist militant insurgency.
