Sept 14 (Reuters) - Delta Air Lines (DAL.N) on Thursday raised its current-quarter revenue forecast as Americans' thirst for travel to Europe lifted demand for transatlantic flights. Shares of the carrier, which also maintained its forecast for full-year profit, rose 2.7% before the bell. Transatlantic travel is the industry's most lucrative long-haul market, accounting for 11% to 20% of passenger revenue last year at the big three U.S. carriers: American Airlines (AAL.O), Delta Air Lines and United Airlines (UAL.O). The carrier said it expects third-quarter revenue to rise within the upper half of its forecast range of 11% to 14% growth. Atlanta-based Delta Air adjusted its estimate for fuel prices to a range of $2.75 and $2.90 per gallon for the current quarter, higher than the $2.50 to $2.70 per gallon it previously expected.

Since the 2003 end of Concorde, of course, flitting quickly across the Atlantic has been a thing of the past. But now, the thought of supersonic travel has been mooted again – by none other than NASA, which reckons that New York-London flight could take as little as 90 minutes in the future. However, NASA is developing “quiet” supersonic aircraft, called X-59s, as part of its Quesst mission. A United Airlines pilot showed up for work over six-times the legal alcohol limit, Le Parisien reported. He was given a six-month suspended prison sentence and had his licence suspended for a year. A United Airlines pilot who showed up to work under the influence of alcohol was handed a six-month suspended prison sentence by a French court on Tuesday, Le Parisien reported. The pilot was also fined 4,500 euros and his pilot licence suspended for a year, the outlet reported. The diversification helped the transatlantic exchange operator blunt the effects of a drought in the U.S. market for IPOs that had soured last year due to rising interest rates and heavy volatility. July 18 (Reuters) - The European Union (EU) said on Tuesday that Europe's slave-trading past inflicted "untold suffering" on millions of people and hinted at the need for reparations for what it described as a "crime against humanity". The idea of paying reparations or making other amends for slavery has a long history but the movement is gaining momentum worldwide. EU and CELAC agreed on one paragraph that acknowledged and "profoundly" regretted the "untold suffering inflicted on millions of men, women and children as a result of the transatlantic slave trade". It said slavery and the transatlantic slave trade were "appalling tragedies ... not only because of their abhorrent barbarism but also in terms of their magnitude". The CARICOM reparations commission "sees the persistent racial victimisation of the descendants of slavery and genocide as the root cause of their suffering today", the plan said.

LONDON, July 14 (Reuters) - An accelerating dollar slide could be a U.S. gift to its allies by helping them catch up with its impressive disinflation. A dollar slide of this size and speed has typically elicited yelps of pain from U.S. trading partners. Euro zone headline inflation - which peaked about one percentage point above and three months later than the U.S. equivalent last year - was still 2.5 points above it last month. The ECB will likely stay shy of peak Fed rates, but an expected move to 4.0% policy rates by year-end will involve two quarter point hikes after the Fed has stopped. A time-limited dollar drop now may be more benign than a simple reversion to a new 'currency war'.
