Musk’s missed deadlines for FDA approval of Neuralink July 2019:Musk says Neuralink is aiming to receive regulatory approval for human trials of brain implants by the end of 2020. “Everybody in the industry was saying: ‘Oh my God, they’re going to run straight into a brick wall,’” Ludwig said of Musk’s bid for FDA approval. For example, NeuroPace, which makes the brain implant to treat epilepsy, received final FDA approval in 2013 – 16 years after the company’s launch. The FDA’s concerns about the battery are also potentially serious, experts in brain devices said. Still, that proposal disappointed Neuralink because it could delay progress toward final FDA approval, one of the sources said.
Rep. George Santos' federal political committees listed a mysterious new treasurer, CNN reported. Curiously, the treasurer's address is listed as the apartment where Santos' sister used to live. The address has also previously been listed by Santos himself as his address on campaign documents. Employees at three businesses in the building told CNN that Andrew Olson was not a name they recognized. CNN's Manu Raju approached Santos on Capitol Hill on Wednesday to ask about Olson, but Santos did not answer any questions.

Stanford professor Jeffrey Pfeffer says there's another simpler reason: Companies are blindly copying each other. A lot of companies were hiring during the pandemic, so everybody decided to hire. A lot of companies doing layoffs cite the economic downturn, but many of them aren't going to run out of money if they avoid layoffs. In many instances, layoffs don't increase stock prices or cut costs. These layoffs are a decision that reflects the company's values, and these companies have basically given their employees the middle finger.
A Google worker says some staff learned which colleagues were let go when their emails bounced back. Google workers have been "figuring out the numbers" about how many staff from each office had been laid off, de Rivaz said. Some of the remaining Google workers asked for anonymity to protect their jobs, but Insider has verified their employment. Google told US staff that they were laid off in an early-morning email on January 20. Some affected US workers told Insider they were annoyed at not being able to say goodbye to or thank colleagues.
McDonald's locations in Pennsylvania employed more than 150 teenagers at hours prohibited by federal law. Children under the age of 16 were operating deep fryers, according to the US Department of Labor. In 2022, more than 3,800 children were found to be employed in violation of federal law; in 2012, that number was just over 1,600. Nine children were also found to be operating deep fryers before the legally required minimum age of 16. "The bottom line is that there is no excuse for jeopardizing young workers' safety or hindering their educational opportunities."

Elon Musk said on Tuesday that Twitter will make its algorithm open source next week. "Prepare to be disappointed at first when our algorithm is made open source next week, but it will improve rapidly!" "Open source" typically refers to software or source code that's publicly accessible to be viewed, modified, and redistributed by anyone. In March 2022, he polled his followers about their views on making the algorithm open source. In a later follow-up, Musk concluded, "Open source is the way to go to solve both trust and efficacy."

After out-driving Thomas on the ninth hole, Woods was caught on camera handing his friend a tampon. Thomas quickly threw the tampon onto the ground as the two golfers had a good laugh. Many did not find it so funny - social media exploded, accusing the 47-year-old of being sexist, taking the prank to mean Thomas hit like a girl. "It was supposed to be all fun and games and obviously it hasn't turned out that way," said Woods when asked about the incident after his second round. "It was just we play pranks on one another all the time and virally I think this did not come across that way."
It added that campaigns are required to appoint a new treasurer within 10 days of the previous treasurer's resignation. That same day, the campaign filed an amended form listing Thomas Datwyler as its new treasurer. In a year-end report filed Jan. 31, the Santos campaign listed as its treasurer a person named Andrew Olson. Currently, the FEC lists Santos as his campaign's own treasurer. The FEC's latest notice adds to the pile of questions surrounding Santos' campaign conduct — including whether he plans to seek reelection.
McCarthy's refusal to meet with the Chamber is the latest strike in an ongoing feud between some House Republican members and the Chamber of Commerce. Tim Doyle, a spokesman for the Chamber of Commerce, told CNBC in a statement that the group's policies are more in line with House Republicans than Democrats. Representatives for House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., House Republican Conference Chair Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., and Rep. Gary Palmer, R-Ala., did not return requests for comment. McCarthy's ire against the Chamber started after the group endorsed 23 House Democrats in the 2020 election cycle when Republicans failed to regain the majority. The Chamber reportedly endorsed 23 House Republican candidates and four Democrats during the 2022 election fight.
The campaign of embattled Republican Rep. George Santos is facing new scrutiny from the Federal Elections Commission after a person listed as Santos' campaign treasurer denied that he had taken the job. It was addressed to Santos' campaign and Thomas Datwyler, the person listed as its treasurer in an amended form filed Wednesday that appeared to replace Santos' longtime treasurer, Nancy Marks. "On Monday, we informed the Santos campaign that Mr. Datwyler would not be taking over as treasurer," Ross said in a statement at the time. The lawyer added that he has not tried to contact the Santos campaign because it "seems like a waste of time." The letter gave the Santos campaign a March 2 deadline to respond.
Fundraising committees associated with George Santos listed a new treasurer on Wednesday. But the man listed said he doesn't work for Santos, and his name was signed without his consent. A legal expert told ABC News that this could be against the law. But that treasurer, Thomas Datwyler, now says he doesn't work for Santos, informed the campaign that he didn't want to work for them, and was listed as serving in the position without his consent. "On Monday, we informed the Santos campaign that Mr. Datwyler would not be serving as treasurer," Datwyler's attorney Derek Ross told ABC News.

Shareholders filed a class action lawsuit on Thursday against Southwest over the flight disruptions. "I have put everything on the table here because it just can't happen again," Jordan told Reuters. Southwest has engaged consultancy Oliver Wyman to investigate the operational failures and has set up a new committee to review its operations, Jordan told Reuters. New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli last Friday demanded to know how the carrier plans to prevent another operational meltdown.

Ginni Thomas affirmed that she did not speak with Clarence Thomas about 2020 election challenges. Thomas during her interview was unable to point to any specific instances of voter fraud in 2020. Ginni Thomas during her January 6 committee interview admitted that while she had concerns about voter fraud in the 2020 election, she couldn't pinpoint specific cases of such malfeasance. Among female independents, Trump’s ratings were even worse: just 23% favorable and 72% unfavorable, according to previously unpublished exit poll results provided by the CNN polling unit. Trump’s unfavorable rating hit a comparable 69% among independents with at least a four-year college degree. That was a significantly smaller advantage than the double-digit lead among independents Democrats enjoyed in both the 2020 presidential race and the 2018 contest for the House. While Democrats held the presidency, Republicans won independents by double-digits in House elections in the midterms of 2014, 2010 and 1994. Gretchen Whitmer won 59% of the independents with degrees and 56% of women independents.
