NEW YORK, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Goldman Sachs' (GS.N) global head of commodities research Jeff Currie, a prominent analyst who accurately predicted a surge in commodity prices in the 2000s, is retiring, according to a memo seen by Reuters. Julian Salisbury, chief investment officer of its asset and wealth management arm, is departing to join investment firm Sixth Street, according to an announcement last month. His forecast was borne out in what would become known as the commodities supercycle, during which crude oil surged to record highs in 2008. More recently, Currie revived his prediction for another supercycle fuelled by pandemic stimulus measures and rebounding economic activity. Currie joined Goldman in 1996 and was promoted to managing director in 2002, then partner in 2008.

What are the eight Women’s World Cup armbands? The eight different armbands each carry a “specific message” according to FIFA, falling under the governing body’s “Football Unites the World” campaign and in partnership with various United Nations’ agencies and the World Health Organization (WHO). During last year’s men’s World Cup in Qatar, a number of European captains withdrew from wearing an armband adorned with a heart striped in different colors as part of the “OneLove” campaign. England captain Millie Bright said she planned to wear three different armbands for each of her team’s group stage matches. “Nothing stopping Ali Riley from showing PRIDE at the World Cup this summer,” the website Women’s Sport Exchange tweeted.

July 21 (Reuters) - Huntington Bancshares (HBAN.O) beat Wall Street estimates for second-quarter profit on Friday, as it earned more from rising interest rates and saw strong demand for its commercial loans. "There is increasing optimism around a very modest slowdown, (or) recession," the bank's CEO Stephen Steinour said, citing stimulus spending from the government. "The interest rate outlook has continued to change," said Steinour, adding there are expectations that rates will remain higher for a longer period. Huntington earned $0.35 per share in the second quarter versus analysts' average estimate of $0.34 per share, according to Refinitiv IBES data. Total deposits at Huntington were $148 billion, up nearly 2% from the first quarter.

July 20 (Reuters) - Flagstar Bank, a subsidiary of New York Community Bancorp (NYCB.N), said on Thursday it has hired six private client banking teams from the now-defunct First Republic Bank. Three of the teams are based on the West Coast and three teams are based in New York City, the bank said in a statement. Flagstar Bank also bought deposits and loans of New York-based Signature Bank from U.S. regulators after Signature was closed in March. The recruitment from First Republic is the second major hire of its private bankers by a regional bank after it was seized by regulators and bought by JPMorgan (JPM.N) in May. Citizens Financial Group (CFG.N) recently added 50 new senior private bankers and another 100 support staff in Boston, Florida, New York and San Francisco, mostly from First Republic.
