Fast times, big crowds as worlds return to Europe

Hungary itself has a woeful world championship record, having never won a gold medal. However, World Athletics says ticket sales have been "strong" and the purpose-built 30,000-capacity stadium, which boasts the same bouncy Mondo track that contributed to so many fast times in Tokyo. Still only 29, she is appearing in her sixth world championships seeking a third gold to add to two Olympic 1,500 metres titles. Norwegian duo Jakob Ingebrigtsen (1,500m) and Karsten Warholm (400m hurdles) are among the big names expected to triumph in the longer distances. With sprinters Marlies Goehr and Marita Koch - whose 1985 400m world record of 47.60 remains much quicker than any current athlete - leading the way, the original "state-sponsored" doping regime of East Germany topped the table with 10 golds.

In "Barbie," Allan appears as a kind but lonely man who just wants to hang out with the Kens and Barbies. But in Mattel lore, Allan was actually married to Midge and had two children with the doll, despite him not interacting with her in the movie. A few months later, in early 1964, the toy company began producing a red-haired boyfriend for Midge, Allan Sherwood, named for Handler's son-in-law. "Allan shares wonderful adventures with Barbie and her friends," including going on double dates as Midge's partner with Barbie and Ken, a advert from 1964 proclaimed. Allan was the same size as Ken, meaning that he could share his clothes, as was the case with Barbie and Midge.

A Russian warship was struck by a Ukrainian drone boat that it doesn't appear to have seen coming. Just a few days before this attack, Russian vessels were fighting off drone boats in another incident. "It just seems very strange they didn't respond at all to the incoming drone boats," Clark added. The Russian ship may have assumed it was safe in Novorossiysk, given that the port is roughly 350 miles from the Ukrainian port city of Odessa, but it shouldn't have. The reach of Ukraine's drone boats was hardly a secret.

"The (rare earths) commissioning process is painstaking, with stops and starts," Jim Litinsky, MP's CEO and largest shareholder, told investors in May. Rare earths magnets turn power into motion and are the essential components in an electric vehicle's motor. Rare earths refining "is not really being addressed even by those who are developing magnet capacity," said Ryan Castilloux, a minerals consultant at Adamas Intelligence. Reinvigorated Astros search for sweep of Guardians

August 2 - Roughly 24 hours after saying he found it "disheartening" to watch other American League contenders complete trades that bolstered their rosters, Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker experienced a change of heart on Tuesday. The Astros will aim for a three-game series sweep on Wednesday afternoon. Prior to Valdez's gem in the Astros' 2-0 victory over the Guardians, Houston reacquired right-hander Justin Verlander from the New York Mets in a deal that sent out a pair of outfield prospects. "When you're going to acquire someone like a Justin Verlander, you're going to have to give up something," Astros general manager Dana Brown said. He's done a good job throughout his entire career, so at the end of the day, you're going to have to give up some players to get good players."

July 27 (Reuters) - GameStop (GME.N) said its finance chief Diana Saadeh-Jajeh will resign on Aug. 11, marking the second high-profile exit in two months and sending the shares of the videogame retailer down nearly 2% in extended trading. The company's board had in June ousted its fifth CEO in five years, leading some analysts to question whether billionaire investor Ryan Cohen, who is now executive chairman, can turn around GameStop. The retailer, known for its brick-and-mortar stores, has struggled to deliver on Cohen's vision to make the company a leading e-commerce firm for videogames and related merchandise. The company's shares have dropped about 82% from the $120.75 peak they hit during the meme-stock saga of 2021. The West Virginia Democrat’s model has served him well with repeated statewide wins in one of the most conservative pro-Trump states in the nation. For now, Manchin’s noncommittal answers are worrying some of his Democratic colleagues. Polls show that both Biden and Trump, the front-runner for the GOP nomination, are unpopular. It argues, therefore, that 79 electoral votes are potentially at risk for Biden from the involvement of a third-party challenger. Such a challenger would also need to win states where Biden won big, and at least some conservative bastions.

In this photo illustration, a visual representation of the digital Cryptocurrency Ripple is displayed on January 30, 2018 in Paris, France. Ripple's XRP token went up 68% in the last 24 hours, leading a wider rally of major-cap altcoins, as crypto traders digest a key ruling that could stifle U.S. regulator efforts to stamp out digital asset trading. All four tokens were recently singled out as securities in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's formal suits against popular crypto retail trading exchanges, including Binance and Coinbase . But the Thursday summary judgement from U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres calls that classification into question. Ripple maintained that its token is not a security — triggering ongoing confusion over which digital coins fall into which regulatory bucket.

Why Americans are obsessed with peanut butter

Skippy was the leading peanut butter brand in the U.S. until 1980, a title that now belongs to Jif. Pond, that became the first brand to commercially develop peanut butter in 1920, sparking the way we eat peanut butter today. "We've launched certain innovations specifically in Asian markets to help enable that type of cooking use for peanut butter. Domestically, Americans eat an average of 4.25 pounds of peanut butter per capita, a figure that increased temporarily during the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the National Peanut Board. As the family came together in the middle of the day, we saw that it introduced this love and affection for peanut butter to children who will hopefully carry that love and affection for peanut butter into [their] lifetime," he added.

CNN —Google was hit with a wide-ranging lawsuit on Tuesday alleging the tech giant scraped data from millions of users without their consent and violated copyright laws in order to train and develop its artificial intelligence products. The complaint also claims Google has taken “virtually the entirety of our digital footprint,” including “creative and copywritten works” to build its AI products. The complaint points to a recent update to Google’s privacy policy that explicitly states the company may use publicly accessible information to train its AI models and tools such as Bard. It is also seeking unspecified damages and payments as financial compensation to people whose data was allegedly misappropriated by Google. Giordano contrasted the benefits and alleged harms of how Google typically indexes online data to support its core search engine with the new allegations of it scraping data to train AI tools.

A Navy system detected what is believed to have been the implosion of the Titan submersible lost touring the Titanic. That system, a naval expert said, is likely the undersea hydrophones of the Integrated Undersea Surveillance System. That system, which was initially just the Sound Surveillance System, has been listening for enemy submarine activity for decades. This system, first constructed in the early 1950s, is called the Sound Surveillance System (SOSUS). Clark said the reporting indicated that the SOSUS hydrophones are likely what detected the final moments of the Titan submersible.
