Traders have been looking to next spring's Bitcoin halving as a beacon of hope while regulatory uncertainty weighs on the industry and trading volumes remain suppressed. "The Litecoin halving has a bit of a price cyclicality associated with it as well, and those patterns seem to be repeating," he told CNBC. The token typically finds its trough and then its peak ahead of the halving, whereas bitcoin tends to peak well after its halving. Litecoin's trough to peak returns fell from 550% in its first halving cycle in 2015 to 504.8% in its second halving cycle three years later. "The Litecoin halving hasn't had as much of a pre-event momentum build like, say, a Bitcoin halving or Ethereum upgrade," said Michael Safai, managing partner at the crypto trading firm Dexterity Capital.

CNN —An 8-year-old was left with minor injuries after being attacked by a cougar in Washington’s Olympic National Park on Saturday evening, park officials said. The child was camping with their mother at Lake Angeles, in the Heart O’ the Hills area south of Port Angeles when the cougar attacked, according to a news release from the National Park Service. Staff evacuated all campers in the Lake Angeles area and closed the Lake Angeles and Heather Park areas until further notice. “A person is one thousand times more likely to be struck by lightning than attacked by a cougar,” according to the department. The Lake Angeles campground is about 100 miles west of Seattle.

CNN —The number of deaths across Mexico due to extreme heat has hit 249 over the past four months, its Ministry of Health has reported. A hundred deaths were registered in Nuevo León, 28 in Tamaulipas, 26 in Veracruz, and 26 in Sonora between March 19 and July 22. Late last month, some Mexican states hit temperatures of monthly or even all-time high topping 45 degree Celsius(113 degrees Fahrenheit) in certain places. At least two states (Baja California and Sonora) will have temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit). According to government data, 92.4% of deaths are due to “heat stroke,” and the rest are due to dehydration.

In the labs, there were at least 19 Black scientists and technicians among the 400 or so scientists employed by the project. The project was unique for bringing together "colored and white, Christian and Jew" for a common cause, Arthur Compton, the Manhattan Project director in Chicago, said. The Manhattan Project did create opportunities for Black Americans' advancements, but many Black workers grappled with Jim Crow segregation. Many Black scientists involved in the Manhattan Project went on to build careers that advanced technology and expanded opportunities for other Black scientists.

Truman didn't actually see the petition before he ordered the bombs to drop, according to the Atomic Heritage Foundation. CNN —A 21-year-old tree planter is recovering after a bear attack in northern British Columbia on Thursday, according to the province’s Conservation Officer Service. The woman was “seriously injured” and remains hospitalized in stable condition, the service said in a social media post. “At this time, Conservation Officers do not have conclusive physical evidence but believe the attack involved a grizzly bear,” the post states. The woman was planting trees around 3 p.m. local time when she was confronted by a bear, according to the service. “The bear first bluff-charged and the victim retreated to a nearby roadway, where the bear attacked,” the post states.

CNN —A teen hiker who became separated from her group in one of British Columbia’s largest parks has been found safe after going missing for over two days, Canadian authorities announced. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said Friday that Esther Wang, 16, was healthy, happy and reunited with her family after getting lost in Golden Ears Park. Authorities reported that the teen lost her way along the park’s East Canyon trail Tuesday afternoon and her hiking group and its leader were unable to find her. The group’s leader then alerted park officials, who contacted the RCMP, according to a news release. At around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, authorities said Wang walked out of the East Canyon trail area on her own.
