Seoul, South Korea CNN —A jet ski rider detained by South Korea for allegedly entering the country illegally is a prominent Chinese dissident who rode hundreds of miles across the sea to escape from China, activists say. The man, who is in his 30s, was apprehended August 16 near Incheon, on South Korea’s west coast near to the capital Seoul, the Incheon Coast Guard said in a news release Sunday. He is suspected of traveling from China’s eastern Shandong province, which lies about 400 kilometers (250 miles) across the Yellow Sea from Incheon. Upon arrival in South Korea, he got stuck on the muddy shore and had to call an emergency line for help, the release said. Lee Dae-seon, an activist working with Dialogue China and based in South Korea, said Kwon had been sentenced to jail and released in March 2019.

Second rider dies in centenary Manx GP qualifying

Aug 23 (Reuters) - A second rider has died after a crash in qualifying for the centenary edition of the Manx Grand Prix motorcycle races on the Isle of Man, organisers said on Wednesday. Ian Bainbridge, a 69-year-old Briton who had been a regular competitor in the event since 2005, died on Tuesday evening at the exit of Kirk Michael village during the second qualifying session. Gary Vines, a 33-year-old British rider who competed in this year's TT races as well as being a Manx regular, died in Sunday's first qualifying session after an accident at Ballagarey. The Manx Grand Prix was first run in 1923 as the Manx Amateur Road Races and features mainly amateur riders competing over the island's TT course. Like the TT races the Manx ranks among the deadliest events in motorsport.

So are we surprised when Sebastian, of all people, turns up as a rider on Abby’s trip? She is (more or less) perfect all along (or at least as close to perfect as any of us are). No real spoilers here, I hope, but one of the riders turns out to be a pregnant teenager and, because of post-Roe obstructions, it takes a village to help her realize her choices. That’s probably because where I live, all the riders whiz past scoldingly, as if every day is the Tour de France. Also, I don’t like the word “derailleur” (whatever it means) and I don’t need to hear about the chamois lining of anybody’s shorts.

Uber's CEO Dara Khosrowshahi told The Wall Street Journal that the worst part of Uber driving was food delivery. The CEO's thoughts come after he moonlit as an Uber driver to understand why hiring dipped. When asked the most nightmarish rider experience he had as an Uber driver, Khosrowshahi said that it wasn't the riders that gave him issues — it was delivering food. "I was trying to deliver food and I couldn't find where to drop it off," Khosrowshahi told The Wall Street Journal. Uber drivers have also complained about riders being loud and obnoxious, slamming doors, leaving crumbs on the seats, and running late.

"The decision of the independent tribunal of the National Anti-Doping Panel confirms that Richard Freeman broke the UK Anti-Doping Rules," said UKAD chief executive Jane Rumble. UKAD opened an investigation in 2016 after receiving information of a possible anti-doping violation by individuals linked to Team Sky at the Criterium du Dauphine race in June 2011. Freeman worked for British Cycling and Team Sky during a golden period of success between 2009 and 2017. British Cycling chair Frank Slevin noted the verdict and thanked the NADP for its work.

Riders are reportedly using San Francisco's self-driving taxis, operated by Cruise, to hook up. A 2018 study predicted that more autonomous vehicles could mean more sex on the road. With no one in the front seat driving, some people are using self-driving taxis for a little bit more than just transportation. A 2018 study by Scott Cohen and Debbie Hopkins in the Annals of Tourism Research journal predicted that passengers might use robotaxis for sex. "Hotels-by the hour are likely to be replaced by connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs)," the researchers wrote.

Lyft's app will now feature ads when a user is booking a ride and during the trip. Its main competitor, Uber, launched video ads on several of its apps back in June. "Lifestyle" is based on locations users "like to visit such as sports games, restaurants, gyms, etc," a spokesperson for Lyft told Insider in an email. All riders will see ads on the app, but they have the option to reject sharing "their behavioral and demographic data," the Lyft spokesperson said. Greenberger told the Journal that Lyft also intends on incorporating video ads on its app before year's end.

The expansion plan was the first indication that driverless cars could be commercially viable after billions of dollars in investments by the tech and auto industries. “San Francisco would be a proof of concept” for the rest of the country, said Matt Wansley, a law professor at Cardozo School of Law in New York. Darcie Houck, a commissioner who voted for the expansion, said the companies had met requirements that the state set out. Cruise operates 300 vehicles in San Francisco during the night and 100 during the day, while Waymo operates 250 throughout the day. Waymo said its driverless fleet would “align” with rider demands, while Cruise said it would focus on expanding the market to new parts of the city, since it had offered paid rides only in northwest San Francisco.

When you take an Uber ride, you get to rate your driver — but your driver also gets to rate you as a rider. You may already know how to view your average Uber rating as a rider. You can see exactly how many one-star, two-star, three-star, four-star and five-star reviews drivers have given you. So, I was surprised to see I'd received six one-star ratings on the app. Having 21 four-star ratings was also a bit surprising, especially since I try to give drivers five stars all the time.

The 20-year-old beat two-time world champion Emma Hinze in the semi-final round and then proved too strong for Friedrich in the gold-medal ride, winning 2-0. But in Welsh rider Finucane they have unearthed a new force in women's sprinting just a year out from the Paris Olympics. Britain's Reilly soars to BMX freestyle world title

The 22-year-old Reilly, whose trailblazing two-wheeled stunts have earned him a huge online following, pulled every trick out of the bag to nail his second run to score 95.80. With several of the sport's biggest names still to complete their final two 60-second runs, Gateshead's Reilly then had an anxious wait to see whether or not the world title was his. A rain shower prolonged the agony as organisers dried the track, with just Australia's Olympic champion Logan Martin and 2022 world champion Rimu Nakamura still to ride their second attempts around the circuit. The 29-year-old Martin was already assured of a bronze and produced a sensational second ride but was unable to dislodge Reilly from the top of the leaderboard, settling for silver. Britain's reigning Olympic champion Charlotte Worthington was in action in the women's competition later.

The elite men's race was brought to a standstill after 80km when anti fossil fuel protesters from a group named This is Rigged blocked the road. While some riders took on food and drink or had a massage in a team car, Van der Poel's needs were rather more urgent and he managed to find a house for a comfort break rather than having to skip behind the nearest hedge. Alex Marquez beats Bezzecchi to Silverstone sprint victory

Aug 5 (Reuters) - Spaniard Alex Marquez beat late-charging Marco Bezzecchi to become the fifth different sprint winner in nine rounds of the MotoGP season with victory in the 10 lap race at Silverstone on Saturday. The Gresini Racing Ducati rider, who started on the front row in third place, beat VR46 Ducati's pole-sitter Bezzecchi by 0.366 seconds with Aprilia's Maverick Vinales third. The younger brother of six times MotoGP champion Marc, who finished 18th for the struggling Repsol Honda team, Marquez took the lead from KTM's Australian Jack Miller on the second lap on a drying track after heavy rain. Alex Marquez was one of several fallers in qualifying, with some riders questioning whether the sprint should go ahead on safety grounds before conditions improved. "I didn't expect such difficult conditions in the race," said Bezzecchi, who had a big crash in qualifying after securing pole and came back at Marquez in the closing stages.
