Griselda Blanco's son has sued Sophia Vergara and Netflix to block the release of "Griselda." In a statement to BI, the Blancos said Netflix should compensate Michael Blanco for sharing his story. In the suit, Michael Blanco says the show's creators used his "private artistic literary work" without permission or credit, which has created "irreparable harm." Representatives for Latin World Entertainment and Vergara did not respond to requests for comment from Business Insider made outside regular working hours. Netflix"Make no mistake, Michael Blanco is humble and thrilled each and every time someone reaches out to shine a light on his mother and the Blanco family," the statement continues.

A follow-up in The Post later that day focused on the outrage of local officials. Tova Plaut, an instructional coordinator for the department, has been especially vocal about what has happened at P.S. “This particular example speaks to why there needs to be systemwide training on how to recognize antisemitism,” she said. Shares of iRobot plunged more than 33% in extended trading on Thursday after a report said the EU's antitrust watchdog intends to block Amazon 's planned acquisition of the Roomba vacuum maker. A representative from the European Commission didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. The European Commission, the European Union's top antitrust enforcer, opened an in-depth probe into the purchase last July. The group warned the planned acquisition raises competition concerns, saying it found Amazon may hinder iRobot's rivals from competing on its online marketplace. Earlier this month, Politico reported Amazon doesn't plan to offer concessions to resolve the group's concerns about the acquisition.

First of all, there's no such thing as a “game clock” in tennis, in general, and no such thing as “too late” at the Australian Open and U.S. Open, in particular. … I haven’t been able to sit through one,” two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka said. The women's and men's professional tours announced just before the start of the Australian Open that they're instituting new rules this month to try to cut back on play after midnight. One problem: Those rules apply only to events run by the WTA and ATP — not Grand Slam tournaments. WHEN DOES MEDVEDEV PLAY NEXT?

Political Cartoons View All 253 ImagesUnder so-called linked-deposit programs, states deposit money in banks at below-market interest rates. Banks then leverage those funds to provide short-term, low-interest loans to particular borrowers, often in agriculture or small business. The programs can save thousands of dollars for borrowers by reducing their interest rates by an average 2-3 percentage points. Illinois has nearly $950 million of deposits linked to low-interest loans for farmers, businesses and individuals. In 2015, Frerichs said, the state's agricultural investment program had just two low-interest loans.

Nadal Prepares His Comeback. But Can He Be Rafa Again?
  + stars: | 2023-12-05 | by ( Joshua Robinson | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: 1 min
The strangest year of Rafael Nadal’s career—the one where he played no competitive tennis for the first time since childhood—is about to come to an end. The 22-time major tournament winner is planning to return from injury for one last lap around the pro circuit next month in Australia before he says farewell to the game. But after 12 months away and a painstaking process to rehabilitate nearly every part of his body, even Nadal isn’t sure what to expect. In an ideal world, he would find his feet again, round into form for the clay-court season, delight his fans at the French Open, and possibly sign off with Olympic gold at Paris 2024, when the tournament will be held on the red courts at Roland-Garros that became his living room.

The United States and more than 20 other countries plan to triple nuclear power by 2050 to achieve net-zero carbon emissions and limit climate change. The declaration is the most concrete step taken yet by major nations to place nuclear power at the center of the push to transition to clean energy. The head of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol, said last month that nuclear energy is making a "very strong comeback," but government support is needed for projects. More than 40% of the 61 nuclear plants currently under construction are in China, according to the World Nuclear Association. India and Russia are also investing heavily in nuclear power.

The U.S. takeover target's early-stage technology could help crack highly prized oral obesity treatments, Roche Pharmaceuticals CEO Teresa Graham said Monday, but it may be several years before the drugs are widely available. The deal will provide Roche access to Carmot's current research and development portfolio, including all clinical and preclinical assets. Shares of the Swiss company, which have been in the doldrums this year, were up 2.25% following the news of the acquisition.

CNN —A person was in critical condition Friday after setting themselves on fire outside the Israeli consulate in what Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said was “likely an extreme act of political protest.”The incident happened around noon outside the Consulate General of Israel, according to police. A Palestinian flag that was part of the protest was recovered at the scene, and gasoline was used as an accelerant, the officials said. The chief said staff inside the Israeli consulate were safe and did not appear to be in danger during the incident. Díaz’s parents - Luis Manuel Díaz Jiménez and Cilenis Marulanda — were kidnapped by a unit of the ELN at a gas station by armed men on motorcycles. Marulanda was rescued by police a few hours later, but Díaz’s father was held captive for 12 days by the ELN. Prosecutors said in a statement that Alcires Bolivar was a merchant in La Guajira who had been contacted by a member of the ELN to help him kidnap Díaz’s parents. After the kidnapping, special forces were deployed to search for Díaz’s father in a mountain range that straddles Colombia and Venezuela. The ELN acknowledged the kidnapping, saying it was a mistake and that its top leadership had ordered the father’s release.

This illustration shows the orbital motion of six planets discovered orbiting star HD110067 located around 100 light-years from Earth. The planets all are a type called 'sub-Neptunes,' which have diameters between 2 and 3 times that of Earth. Earth, the largest of our solar system's four rocky planets, has a diameter of about 7,900 miles (12,750 km). The planets orbit the star between 6% and 20% of the distance between Earth and the sun. "None of them are in the nominal habitable zone for terrestrial planets.

Astronomers have discovered six planets orbiting a bright star in perfect resonance. The star system, 100 light-years from Earth, was described on Wednesday in a paper published in the journal Nature. “It’s like looking at a fossil,” said Rafael Luque, an astronomer at the University of Chicago who led the study. “The orbits of the planets today are the same as they were a billion years ago.”Researchers think that when planets first form, their orbits around a star are in sync. That is, the time it takes for one planet to waltz around its host star might be the same amount of time it takes for a second planet to circle exactly twice, or exactly three times.
Persons: , Rafael Luque Organizations: University of Chicago
And the planets, labeled b through g, revolve around the star in a celestial dance known as orbital resonance. For every six orbits completed by planet b, the closest planet to the star, the outermost planet g completes one. As planet c makes three revolutions around the star, planet d does two, and when planet e completes four orbits, planet f does three. Detecting a mysteryResearchers first took notice of the star system in 2020 when NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, or TESS, detected dips in the brightness of HD110067. “It shows us the pristine configuration of a planetary system that has survived untouched.”The discovery is the second time Cheops has helped reveal a planetary system with orbital resonance.
