[1/2] Arm CEO Rene Haas looks on, as Softbank's Arm, chip design firm, holds an initial public offering (IPO) at Nasdaq Market site in New York, U.S., September 14, 2023. So far this year, 68 traditional U.S. IPOs on Nasdaq have raised $8.6 billion, surpassing $6.4 billion for NYSE, the data released on Thursday showed. "Today has been a milestone day for Nasdaq with Arm being the largest IPO of the year. Shares in SoftBank's Arm Holdings soared almost 25% above their Nasdaq debut price on Thursday, rekindling investor hopes for a turnaround in the moribund market for initial public offerings (IPO). This year, Nasdaq has won 87% of U.S. IPOs listings, and has led its rival for 38 consecutive quarters according to its own data.

Retail investor interest in artificial intelligence is cooling — but not every stock is feeling the pressure, according to Vanda Research. It also arrives amid a broader pullback among retail investors, he noted. "Retail investors' net buying of US securities remains low relative to previous years - particularly within the realm of AI stocks, which are witnessing diminishing retail interest as the initial fervor surrounding the sector wanes," Iachini said. But that resilience in the face of rapidly growing short interest can be a "cautionary flag" of a future slide in retail trader interest. Short interest in Nvidia has declined, coinciding with a jump in the stock price, Iachini said.

Employees walk at the headquarters of the Central Bank of Iraq in Baghdad, Iraq August 15, 2023. Despite the crackdown, the senior U.S. Treasury official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there were still other Iraqi banks operating with risks "that must be remediated". Iraq's central bank governor has said Iraq is committed to implementing tighter financial regulations and combating the smuggling of dollars. The central bank did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursday. However, there were still "vested interests comfortable with the status quo that can create friction to driving change," the Treasury official said, without identifying who these were.

A general view of a crude oil importing port in Qingdao, Shandong province, November 9, 2008. Many of the newer, complex refineries in Asia prefer medium sour crude as it offers a higher yield of middle distillates such as diesel and jet fuel. ALTERED FLOWSThe higher prices for medium crude grades is impacting the ways in which crude is flowing around the world. China's imports from Brazil are expected to reach 29.07 million barrels in September, which would be the highest in three years, according to Kpler. While Saudi Arabia may have been successful in boosting oil prices, it is also disrupting the markets and altering physical crude flows.

The prospect of higher rates put particular pressure on growth stocks with the S&P 500 growth index (.IGX) underperforming the benchmark throughout the session. "Growth stocks have been pricing in the idea that inflation has been well anchored and that the Fed's going to cut. The S&P 500 showed little reaction to the Fed's "Beige Book" snapshot of the U.S. economy a week ahead of the keenly awaited August inflation data and the Fed's rate decision on Sept. 20. The report showed "modest" U.S. economic growth in recent weeks while job growth was "subdued," and inflation slowed in most parts of the country. The S&P 500 posted six new 52-week highs and 25 new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 34 new highs and 174 new lows.

BAGHDAD, Sept 2 (Reuters) - A protester was shot dead and a dozen wounded on Saturday during clashes between ethnic groups in the northern Iraqi oil city of Kirkuk that broke out after days of tensions, security forces and police said. Security officials and police in the city say they were investigating the circumstances of how a protester - a Kurd - was killed, and who opened fire. People from both protest groups were wounded as stones were thrown and metal bars used to attack, said Kirkuk police. Kurdish forces controlled Kirkuk city after driving Islamic State out in 2014 but were ejected by the Iraqi army in 2017, bringing the city back under Baghdad's control. But Arab residents and minority groups who said they suffered under Kurdish rule, such as the Turkmen, have protested the KDP's return.

Ukrainian media has shared footage purporting to demonstrate the use of a "cardboard" drone. Ukraine says it used the lightweight, cheap drones to do serious damage to five Russian planes. The footage here shows the potential damage from a mid-air explosion. The advantage of the Corvo PPDS drone — which have been variously described by their manufacturer SYPAQ as being made of cardboard and of light foamboard — is in its cheapness, light weight, and disposability. Shares of HP fall 8% following revenue miss

Shares of HP fell more than 8% on Wednesday morning after the printer and PC maker released fiscal third-quarter earnings that underwhelmed Wall Street. HP reported $13.2 billion in revenue, below the $13.37 billion expected by analysts, according to Refinitiv. However, the analysts wrote that the company's printing business may be more of a sticking point. The analysts wrote in a Wednesday note that they are lowering their fiscal fourth-quarter estimates and fiscal full-year estimates for the company. "Despite a tough demand environment, we continue to be impressed with HPQ's ability to generate solid operating margins for both segments," the analysts wrote Tuesday.

Ukraine has received hundreds of so-called "cardboard drones" from Australia. The Corvo PPDS is cheap, comes flat-packed, and can be built in an hour, its maker says. SYPAQ's Corvo PPDS drone. Although it's known as the "cardboard drone," there's conflicting information as to what its main framework is actually made of. Per the pro-Russian Telegram channel @fighter_bomber, Ukraine used a swarm-like formation of several unarmed Corvo PPDSs amidst drones packed with bombs, helping the swarm evade radar.

Ukraine claims it used cardboard drones from Australia to strike five jets at a Russian air field. In March, Australia announced delivery of the lightweight drones in an aid package to Ukraine. According to prominent pro-Russian blogger @fighterbomber, which closely follows the Russian air force, the attack was the first use of Australian-provided delivery drones made of cardboard. AdvertisementAdvertisementInsider could not independently confirm the claim, but on Tuesday Ukraine's ambassador to Australia Vasyl Mryoshnychenko vouched for it, saying in a post on X: "Cardboard drones from Australia used in attack on Russian airfield." The Corvo drones are described by SYPAQ as "the cardboard plane," but per an earlier company press release they're made from waxed foamboard.

The tense environment has been punctuated by Russian threats of nuclear strikes against the West in response to NATO's military support for Ukraine. In a future war, the secretive drones the US has supplied to Ukraine — the Phoenix Ghost and Switchblade — could get a new mission: hunting Russian nukes in Kaliningrad. NATO forces could use loitering munitions — drones designed to linger near a target before crashing into and destroying it — for such a mission in Kaliningrad. "A focus should also be on the training of these forces with the Phoenix Ghost and Switchblade drones to assist them in their search and destroy efforts," DiRubbio writes. The US has provided a few hundred of those two drones to Ukraine, including both version of the Switchblade.
