(AP) — Union Pacific's fourth-quarter profit crept up 1% as the railroad delivered more fertilizer, imported goods and vehicles. The Omaha, Nebraska-based railroad said it earned $1.65 billion, or $2.71 per share, in the quarter. The results topped the estimates of the analysts surveyed by FactSet Research that called for earnings of $2.60 per share as Union Pacific hauled 3% more shipments. But Union Pacific's topped Wall Street's predictions for $6.05 billion. Union Pacific is one of the nation’s largest railroads and operates more than 30,000 miles of track in 23 western states.

While it remains upright and in contact with flight controllers, its $85 million mission is officially over, officials said. Originally intended as a short-term tech demo, Ingenuity logged 72 flights over three years at Mars. Ingenuity hitched a ride on NASA’s Perseverance rover, landing on Mars in 2021. Mike Lynch announced he's stepping down as minority leader Wednesday, a week after The Denver Post reported that Lynch was arrested in 2022 on suspicion of drunken driving and possession of a gun while intoxicated. Lynch is also running for Congress in Colorado's 4th District, a hotly contested race recently joined by Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert after she announced she was switching districts. “I want it to be clear that I’m not stepping down because I won a close vote of no confidence,” Lynch said to gathered lawmakers on the House floor. The report details Lynch telling King he was a supporter of law enforcement and asking the trooper to call Colorado State Patrol’s legislative liaison at the state Capitol. CSX's fourth quarter profit slipped 13%, but the railroad reported hauling slightly more freight and kept its trains running smoothly.
