JPMorgan Chase executive Mary Callahan Erdoes sought advice for a $600 million tax issue from disgraced former financier Jeffrey Epstein in 2005, legal filings alleged. The USVI in court filings Monday night asked the court for partial summary judgment in its favor. In a deposition this year, Erdoes acknowledged that JPMorgan was aware of the accusations against Epstein by 2006. JPMorgan agreed to pay $290 million to settle a lawsuit from Epstein's victims, but the USVI suit has continued. On that, JPMorgan had this statement: "Jeffrey Epstein was in Florida where many of Madoff's victims lived.

We've now ushered in a "triple peak" day. The result is a "triple peak" day, as The Atlantic's Derek Thompson reported last April. But for those whose work is more solitary or not as time-sensitive, the triple peak day may offer a pathway to greater work-life balance. Working parents, for example, might adopt a triple peak day to spend more time with their kids during the day and finish work once their kids are off to bed. Are you working a "triple peak" day?

The cavalry “is coming, Mr. President,” Kylie Kremer tweeted to Mr. Trump on Dec. 19. Economic growth is likely to slow to 4.8% in the third quarter and 5.3% in the fourth, with full-year growth expected to reach 5.5%, the poll showed. China's central bank on Monday extended until the end of 2024 some policies which were unveiled in a November rescue package to shore up the real estate sector, including loan repayment extensions for developers. Analysts polled by Reuters expect the central bank to cut banks' reserve requirement ratio (RRR) by 25 basis points in the third quarter, while keeping benchmark lending rates steady. The central bank cut the RRR - the amount of cash that banks must hold as reserves - in March. But the central bank is likely to be wary of cutting lending rates further.

Summary Canadian minister Ng notes progress with Mexico over energyUSTR Tai urges Mexico to monitor steel and aluminum exports to U.S.MEXICO CITY, July 6 (Reuters) - The U.S. sees some progress made on an energy dispute with Mexico, although "deep-seated" concerns persist, U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai said on Thursday shortly before talks in Mexico with top Mexican and Canadian trade officials. The U.S. and Canada demanded dispute settlement talks over energy with Mexico in July 2022, arguing that Mexico's nationalist energy policies, which have tightened state control over the energy market, were discriminatory to U.S. companies. Canada's Ng separately noted progress with Mexico over energy issues, saying concerns from Canadian companies had been addressed. In addition to the energy spat, the U.S. and Mexico are engaged in a dispute over Mexico's decree to limit the use of genetically modified (GM) corn. Before the meeting, Tai said trade dispute settlement consultations over GM corn, which the U.S. requested in June, began with Mexico last week.

The authors found that in terms of effects on back and neck pain, opioids weren’t any more helpful than the placebo. More people in the opioid group had ongoing pain at weeks 26 and 52 than in the placebo group. The opioid group had worse mental health scores and more reports of nausea, dizziness and constipation than the placebo group. Opioids and painThe study authors and experts who weren’t involved in the new study have theories on why opioids weren’t found to be more helpful than the placebo. “The good news is most people with acute low back pain and neck pain recover within 6 weeks naturally.”The authors studied nonspecific back or neck pain, which is pain with an unknown cause.

Several Democratic incumbents in New York saw unusual challenges from more conservative candidates in Tuesday’s primary, with the opponents hoping to benefit from a demographic change, as an influx of immigrants is shifting some districts to the right. Incumbents easily held off primary challenges in Democratic primaries for district attorney in Queens and the Bronx; further north, a Council race in Buffalo was won by a woman whose son was shot in the Tops supermarket racist massacre. In New York City, just over 149,000 people had cast their ballots as of 6 p.m., according to the City Board of Elections. That includes 44,611 votes that were cast during the nine-day early voting period that began June 17 and ended on Sunday — less than a quarter of the early-voting turnout two years ago, when candidates for mayor were competing in the primary. There were contested primaries in New York City Council contests across the boroughs, with the races for a two-year term instead of the usual four years because of redistricting.

Discussions on the Olympics deal, being negotiated by Antoine, revolve around promotions focused on LVMH as a group, its two biggest fashion labels - the Louis Vuitton and Dior brands - as well as champagne. However, the behind-the-scenes role of the oldest of Arnault’s four sons, Antoine, hasn't been widely known. Although Antoine Arnault's work shepherding LVMH's sponsorship of the Olympic Games is taking place behind closed doors, the outcome would be highly public. Steve Martin, global CEO of M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment, said that while LVMH is already associated with France, a formal sponsorship of the Olympics would help to further differentiate LVMH from luxury rivals. “If we get involved it would be to help out,” LVMH fashion group CEO Sidney Toledano told Reuters.

It comes as hydrogen technology is getting a boost from favourable legislation in the United States and Europe, which are both seeking to strengthen the technology to help carbon dioxide-heavy industries, including steel and chemicals, to decarbonise. "A potential IPO would enlarge the financial flexibility of Thyssenkrupp Nucera and raise its profile as a leading supplier of technology for the production of green hydrogen," he said. The listing, which is run by Citi (C.N) and Deutsche Bank (DBKGn.DE), will primarily consist of new shares, Thyssenkrupp Nucera said. FTC Chairwoman Lina Khan testifies during the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Innovation, Data, and Commerce hearing on the "FY2024 Federal Trade Commission Budget," in Rayburn Building on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. The Federal Trade Commission is set to file for an injunction Monday seeking to block Microsoft's proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard , a person familiar with the matter told CNBC. By filing for an injunction, the FTC is seeking to stop the transaction from going through before the deal's July 18 deadline. The FTC had already sued to block the $68.7 billion acquisition, choosing to bring the case before its internal administrative law judge. An appeal of the U.K.'s Competition and Markets Authority's decision to block the merger is also scheduled to take place this summer shortly after the acquisition deadline.
