With interest rates peaking, now might be a good time to boost the cash flow you're generating in your fixed income portfolio. A core and satellite approach to boost cash flow For liquidity, UBS recommends a core-satellite approach. You also know when you'll be getting your income payments from the bonds, which generally pay interest twice a year. The first is "everyday cash," which means investors should be stashing money that they can readily withdraw if needed. The second tier is "savings cash" for money that you can afford to lock up for a short period of time.

Insider spoke to three Barbie collectors who seem unfazed by the potential rise in the dolls' worth. As a collector doing it for love, he told Insider those looking to make money should invest in other things. Antique expert Dr. Lori told Insider she estimates a 25% rise in the doll's value in the build-up to the film's release and immediately afterward. "There are too many elements to the concept of value, and it's rarely just about finance," Yang told Insider. Even if these Barbie collectors were looking to make a quick buck in Gerwig's box office weekend, selling Barbies isn't easy.

We’re looking for a continued, united NATO,” Biden said in brief remarks alongside NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the summit site. Participants of the NATO Summit pose for an official photo in Vilnius, Lithuania, on July 11, 2023. NATO first welcomed Ukraine’s membership aspirations during a 2008 meeting in Bucharest, Romania, but little progress has been made and the timeline remains uncertain. Biden and NATO leaders have “unanimously agreed” to send a “substantial” new aid package to Ukraine, Sloat told reporters Wednesday — but she declined to provide additional details. Biden is also set to give a foreign policy speech that his aides have described as a “major address” later on Wednesday, reflecting on the strength and power of the NATO alliance.

Among the measures introduced by the government was an agreement among the country's largest defined contribution pension providers to allocate 5% of assets in their default funds to unlisted equities by 2030. This could unlock up to £50 billion (roughly $64 billion) of investment in high-growth firms if all other defined contribution pension schemes follow suit, Hunt said. Meanwhile, average earners' pension pots could rise up to 12% to as much as £16,000 with defined contribution pension schemes committing to more effective investments, he added. Hunt also committed to an "intermittent trading venue" that makes it possible for public market investors to trade shares of unlisted firms. This would act as a halfway house for privately-traded firms looking for alternative ways of raising capital to public listings.

What Biden needs to accomplish with his NATO trip

London CNN —President Joe Biden embarks on a weeklong trip to Europe on Sunday, and the stakes couldn’t be higher for the future of the NATO alliance. Biden makes a stop in London ahead of his attendance at the NATO Summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, followed by meetings with Nordic leaders in Helsinki, Finland. But Biden will be a key player in determining what specific, measurable criteria or timelines, if any, are offered to Ukraine for NATO membership during this summit. Sweden’s NATO membership is “within reach,” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in a news briefing following a meeting of senior officials from Turkey, Sweden and Finland Thursday. And I’m really looking – anxiously looking forward for your membership,” Biden told Kristersson during a meeting in the Oval Office.

The company’s weighting in the S&P 500 has swelled to 7.6%, the biggest of any one stock in the history of the benchmark index, according to S&P Dow Jones Indices. If shares of Apple keep rallying, that could hurt the results of active fund managers, who strive to beat indexes such as the S&P 500 or Russell 1000. The cost of limiting Apple shares may be particularly high for fund managers this year, given the stock's swelling weight in indexes. “Fund managers at their own peril don’t hold Apple and a handful of stocks just like it at index weight or about index weight,” Morris said. The stock is still his firm's fourth-largest holding, even though at 4% of the portfolio, it puts it underweight Apple versus the S&P 500.

MUMBAI, June 27 (Reuters) - Goswami Infratech, a Shapoorji Pallonji group entity, closed India's largest debt issue from a low-rated company on Tuesday, signalling growing interest in high-yielding debt from local and global private credit funds, bankers and fund managers said. Goswami Infratech accepted bids worth 143 billion rupees ($1.74 billion), including from Edelweiss Special Opportunities Fund, Davidson Kempner, Ares Capital Management, Varde Partners and Cerberus Capital Management, the bankers said. "We are seeing money coming in from global asset managers, international development financial institutions and large pension funds in Indian private credit funds," said Vineet Sukumar, founder of Vivriti Asset Management, which also manages a private credit fund. Two recent changes in regulation have also provided a boost to private credit funds. The tweaks have led to more funds from high net worth individuals and family offices flowing into private credit funds, while elevated yields are further leading to attractive investment opportunities.

Berkshire Hathaway on Monday said its wholly-owned subsidiary National Indemnity Company has increased its stake in five Japanese trading firms to average more than 8.5%. Berkshire Hathaway said it intends to hold its Japanese investments for the long term, with CEO Warren Buffett pledging the company will only purchase up to 9.9% of any of the five firms. Buffett visited Japan in April to announce that Berkshire Hathaway would boost its investment in the various Japanese trading houses to 7.4%, after identifying the five businesses as comparable entities to his Omaha-based conglomerate. The five firms are the largest of Japan's so-called sogo-shosha, or general trading companies, and focus on diversified long-term investments that prioritize value and cash flow. Berkshire Hathaway owns no other investments in Japan.

Key beneficiaries Analysts recently flagged cash-rich companies as a beneficiary of higher interest rates. It said that consumer services, software and semiconductor companies are among those likeliest to profit the most from higher interest. "With higher interest rates, companies with robust balance sheets may be able to generate substantial amounts of interest income and surprise to the upside." The higher the free cash flow yield, the better a company's position to meet its debt obligations. A company with a high free cash flow is also able to access cash more quickly in the event of an emergency or opportunity.

Traders work on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) May 30, 2023. Stock markets are ignoring a "laundry list" of potential risks in their recent bull run, and a big downturn could be incoming, according to Julian Howard, investment director for multi-asset solutions at GAM Investments. "There's this laundry list of problems, and interest rates and inflation haven't gone away. The debt ceiling is done, and I think there's a sense that, actually, the markets need to refocus again on inflation and rates," Howard said. "The U.S. consumer is pretty ambivalent about inflation, it kind of expects higher inflation now, and that's dangerous because that entrenches higher inflation itself, because obviously expectations lead to higher inflation."

And it all started with a small New Zealand-style "real fruit" ice cream cart in Portland, Oregon. Vergara helped manage a business, Zed's Real Fruit Ice Cream, that used the machine before starting his own in 2021. Most of that revenue — $473,000 — came solely from Nico's Ice Cream.
