For companies like Target and Disney, it is unclear if boycotts will hit sales. The company said it has not changed any policy on decorations and is encouraging stores to celebrate Pride Month. Despite the mounting headlines and sustained criticism of Bud Light, corporate boycotts are "overstated," and those offended by campaigns tied to Pride Month are in the "minority," Ellis said. For LGBTQ+ couples, starting parenthood can be a complicated, expensive process. Having a financial plan can make a lot of difficult questions easier to answer. Whether it's IUI, IVF, reciprocal IVF, surrogacy, or adoption, all paths to parenthood are a major financial decision. "It's a great time to get a financial plan and work out all the details on the front end," she said. A financial plan can help answer the challenging questions lesbian couples face.

Salesforce's Brent Hyder offended some employees during the company's LGBTQ+ Pride month kickoff. The company later removed Hyder's comments from a recording of the event and deleted a Slack thread about them. Because Salesforce removed the comments from the recording, Insider has not verified Hyder's exact comments and Salesforce repeatedly declined to provide Insider with a transcript of Hyder's comments. But according to people who heard them, Hyder made a number of controversial statements including that members of the LGBTQ+ community should compromise with opponents. "Allyship is a constant journey," Billy Lewis, a Salesforce employee who was global head of Outforce for four years, said in an interview arranged by Salesforce.

CNN —Estonia’s parliament passed on Tuesday a law legalizing same-sex marriage, becoming the first ex-Soviet country to do so. Two adults will be able to marry “regardless of their gender,” after the parliament approved amendments to the country’s Family Law Act, according to a press statement. The amendments to the Family Law Act also mean that same-sex couples can now adopt children. In the survey conducted last month, just 41% of Republicans said that gay or lesbian relations are morally acceptable, a 15% drop from 2022. Independents who say same-sex relations are morally acceptable has remained steady in recent years, with 73% expressing approval in 2023 compared to 72% the year before, according to Gallup. Americans have come a long way since 2001, when just 40% of respondents to the same poll expressed approval of same-sex relations. Approval of gay and lesbian relations hit a record high last year, when 71% of Americans told Gallup that such relations were morally permissible — including 56% of Republicans.

Japan passes watered-down LGBT understanding bill

CNN —Japan on Friday passed a much-contested bill to promote understanding of the LGBT community amid criticism that the legislation provides no human rights guarantees and may tacitly encourage some forms of discrimination. However, wrangling over the bill and its wording meant it was only submitted to parliament for consideration the day before the summit began. “But now I’ve begun to think it might be better to have nothing at all.”Japan has come under pressure from other G7 nations, especially the United States, to allow same-sex marriage. Opinion polls show a vast majority of Japanese approve of same-sex marriage. Roughly 70% of the country now allows same-sex partnership agreements, although the partnership rights fall short of those guaranteed by marriage.

A story headline on Fox News suggested the Progress Pride flag promotes "grooming and pedophilia." Fox News faced fierce backlash this week after it linked a new version of the Pride flag to "grooming and pedophilia," the latest anti-LGBTQ rhetoric from the conservative media giant. "White House flew controversial new transgender flag that promotes grooming and pedophilia, say critics," read a now-deleted Fox News tweet and the headline on a story posted on Wednesday. Fox News is straight up saying the pride flag promotes 'grooming and pedophilia.' Talking about queer persecution in the past gave activists a language with which to combat queer persecution in the present. But the relentless focus on queer persecution — while politically necessary — often has the unfortunate effect of shunting to the side an equally important history of queer joy. In my own research on sexuality in modern Germany, queer joy also appears in the unlikeliest of places. Reports from the Gestapo, the Nazis’ feared secret police, chronicled monthly fetes attended by hundreds of Berliners: queer women and trans men sporting elegant evening coats, queer men and trans women dressed to the nines in flowing gowns. Understanding how and why trans, queer, gay, bi and lesbian people were and are persecuted is vital to recognizing and combating oppression of all sorts today.

TOKYO, June 8 (Reuters) - Japan's Fukuoka District Court ruled on Thursday that not allowing same-sex marriage was "in a state of unconstitutionality" in a complicated ruling that fell short of marriage-equality activists' expectations. The ruling came a week after another district court said it was unconstitutional to not allow same-sex marriage, bolstering hopes of the LGBTQ community in Japan, the only Group of Seven nation without legal protection for same-sex unions. Five rulings on same-sex marriage have now been handed down around Japan - two saying bans on it are unconstitutional and one saying they were not. A Tokyo ruling upheld the ban on same-sex marriage but said a lack of legal protection for same-sex families violated their human rights. Opinion polls show about 70% of the public supports same-sex marriage, but the conservative ruling party of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida opposes it.

The finale of Netflix’s latest dating show hit, “The Ultimatum: Queer Love,” arrived on Wednesday after weeks of partner swapping that amounted to a milestone in romantic reality television: The first of the genre’s marriage contests that focused exclusively on queer couples. Like its predecessor, “The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On,” from last year, “The Ultimatum: Queer Love,” which premiered in May, follows couples who don’t agree about their future together (one wants to get engaged; the other is not ready). So they agree to split up and live with new partners for a few weeks in front of the cameras. After meeting, dating and committing to a “trial wife,” the original couples reunite to live together as married, also for a few weeks. Then, after eight episodes worth of soul-searching, they must decide whether to get engaged, end the relationship or leave with their “trial wife” — the “ultimatum” of the title.

CNN —For the first time in its four-decade history, America’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer civil rights organization has declared a national state of emergency for members of the LGBTQ+ community, the Human Rights Campaign said Tuesday. “LGBTQ+ Americans are living in a state of emergency. The historic announcement – just a few days into Pride Month – follows “an unprecedented wave of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in 2023,” according to the Human Rights Campaign, as violence against LGBTQ people continues and the community’s rights have become a flashpoint in the 2024 election. They include pronoun refusal laws, forced student outing laws, anti-drag bans and “don’t say LGBTQ+” laws. But even as Human Rights Campaign trumpets warnings, the group insists it will not back down from any attempts to stymie the community: “LGBTQ+ people nationwide will not be erased – not now, not ever,” the group said.

Brands fearful of right-wing backlash are discussing scaling back their Pride Month activities. Right-wing media personalities have declared a "war on woke," with The Daily Wire's Matt Walsh recently rallying his Twitter followers to "make 'pride' toxic for brands." This month, the LGBTQ+ dating app Taimi initiated an ad campaign that included billboards in states including Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, and others. Those billboards were largely on privately-owned farmland and most of the landowners rejected Taimi's ad campaign, many requesting "no nudity" in the images. The North Face, which debuted its "Summer of Pride" ad campaign starring drag queen Pattie Gonia late last month, is holding firm.

CNN —About 9% of adults across 30 countries around the world identify as LGBTQ, according to a new Ipsos poll. The survey released Thursday indicates Millennials and Gen Zers are more likely to identify as queer, bisexual, pansexual, omnisexual, or asexual than older generations. Respondents included more than 22,514 adults under the age of 75 in 30 countries who answered the survey online between February 17 and March 3. Among the countries surveyed, the survey shows more than half of respondents said they support same-sex marriage where it is legal.
