Leonard Allan Cure, 53, died on Monday after a Camden County sheriff's deputy shot him; the officer has not been officially identified. The Camden County Sheriff's Office said in a posting online the video was released because of rumors and misinformation, but did not elaborate. A representative for the sheriff's office did not immediately respond to Reuters request for comment on Wednesday. The deputy later told Cure on the video that Cure was driving 100 miles per hour (160 kph) on Interstate 95 in southern Georgia. Cure's family watched the video Wednesday at a Georgia Bureau of Investigation office with their attorney just before it was released by Camden County, in southern Georgia.

The officer pulled over Leonard Allan Cure, 53, on Monday morning along Interstate 95 in Camden County near the Florida border. Before shooting, the deputy used a Taser and a baton in an effort to subdue Cure, the agency said. It said in a statement on Monday that Cure was traveling to see his mother in south Florida when the incident occurred.

Billionaire Ronald Lauder wrote a letter threatening to stop donations to the University of Pennsylvania. AdvertisementAdvertisementRonald Lauder, the billionaire Estée Lauder heir, wrote a searing letter to the University of Pennsylvania's president threatening to stop donations to the school if it doesn't take a stronger stance against antisemitism. "Those invited to the event had a history of not just strong anti-Israel bias, but outright antisemitism," he wrote. "The University did not, and emphatically does not, endorse these speakers or their views," Magill wrote in an email to the Penn community on Sunday. “Bonjour hi,” the ubiquitous greeting servers and shopkeepers use to figure out whether you prefer French or English, encapsulates so much about Montreal, which like its province, Quebec, retains a strong French Canadian identity. In this 381-year-old city of 1.78 million, which Mark Twain once described as a place “where you couldn’t throw a brick without breaking a church window,” one of Canada’s most vibrant L.G.B.T.Q. scenes thrives, and communities formed by Jewish, African, Asian, Italian, Portuguese and Haitian immigrants all offer something special to see (and taste). The city is on an upswing: Modern apartment buildings, cafes and bike paths are popping up in formerly industrial Griffintown, while the Plateau and Mile End areas offer art and music worthy of the place that nurtured Arcade Fire and Leonard Cohen. There is too much for just 36 hours, but if you bring some good walking shoes, you’ll find terrific meals, stunning views atop Mont-Royal and a creative spirit that comes across in any language.

San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback Brock Purdy, a captain on one of the league's two remaining undefeated teams, isn't one of them. He splits rent with one of his teammates, an offensive lineman, and drives a Toyota Sequoia SUV, he told NBC's "TODAY" last week. It has the the third-highest cost of living in the U.S., possibly contributing to Purdy's desire for a roommate. A one-bedroom apartment or condo's median monthly rent in San Francisco is $2,993 — 137% higher than the national median — according to Zillow data. And in baseball, New York Yankees star pitcher Gerrit Cole kept driving his 2006 Toyota Tacoma truck after signing a $324 million contract for a simple, logical reason: It still worked, he told NJ.com in 2021.

Peak oil demand refers to the point in time when the highest level of global crude demand is reached, which will be immediately followed by a permanent decline. This would theoretically decrease the need for investments in crude oil projects and make them less economical as other energy sources take over. "Such narratives only set the global energy system up to fail spectacularly," OPEC Secretary General Haitham al-Ghais said in a Sept. 14 statement. The IEA's roadmap calls for daily oil demand to be slashed by 25% in seven years' time. 'We all strive for the same thing'OPEC leaders, meanwhile, point to continuing yearly increases in oil demand, particularly from major emerging markets like China and India.

When Greg Jein, an Oscar-nominated visual effects artist, died last year at age 76, he left behind thousands of props, miniatures, costumes and other possessions in two houses, two garages and two storage units in Los Angeles. Among his many belongings, he had a lace hairpiece worn by William Shatner as Captain Kirk in the original “Star Trek” television series; a nearly 7-foot-long Martian rocket ship from the 1952 movie serial “Zombies of the Stratosphere,” featuring a young Leonard Nimoy; and Batman’s yellow utility belt from the 1960s television show, starring Adam West.
