The involvement of the previously unnamed financial backers of Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) – parent company of social media app Truth Social – shows how Trump tapped his political supporters to launch an outlet aimed at political conservatives and libertarians after he was banned from Twitter and Facebook following the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on Congress. TMTG launched Truth Social in February in the Apple App Store and in Google’s Play Store in October. Truth Social has been downloaded 2.9 million times across both platforms, according to market tracker Appfigures. Trump had 4.37 million followers on Truth Social as of Oct. 27, compared to the more than 88 million followers he had on Twitter when the platform permanently suspended him.

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/IllustrationOct 28 (Reuters) - Ever since former U.S. President Donald Trump launched a new media company aimed at rivaling Twitter, there has been a mystery over who provided the money.
The reality, according to internal Twitter research seen by Reuters, goes far beyond the handful of examples of celebrities ghosting their own accounts. Twitter was motivated to investigate “disturbing” trends among users that may have been masked by overall growth in daily active users and better understand the decline in the company’s most active users, the documents said. Twitter’s most active English-speaking users were also increasingly interested in cryptocurrencies, reaching an all-time high in late 2021, the internal documents showed. ‘DEVASTATING’ LOSSESTopics that have traditionally made Twitter a popular platform for its millions of users are now in decline among the most active English-speaking users, the documents show. But the categories have since lost the highest number of heavy Twitter users and have shown no signs of recovery, the report said.
"SAP is fully committed to winding down our business in Russia as quickly as possible," a SAP spokesperson said. Russia's parliament has been discussing draft legislation that would allow Moscow to seize Western companies' assets and possibly prosecute executives involved in implementing sanctions against Russia. While Gazprom and Sberbank were hit by Western sanctions, Nornickel was not. The SAP case sheds light on the complications Western companies face leaving Russia. While some departing companies have fired local staff, SAP gave them the option to relocate from Russia.
In Arizona, Kari Lake Makes Waves

Political professionals, the Democratic establishment and an antagonistic media are aghast that Kari Lake , the Republican candidate for governor of Arizona, appears to be on a glide path to victory next month. Name recognition and communication skills developed over a 25-year career as a TV news anchor in Phoenix have served Ms. Lake well as a candidate. But authenticity is her best asset. “I don’t need a pollster or a consultant from D.C. or another big city to come into Arizona and tell me what Arizona is about,” she told Politico. Ms. Lake campaigns on instincts and personal energy, never shirks a question or a debate, and gathers attention, as Axios reported, by “dressing down reporters and eviscerating the mainstream media.” GOP candidates across the country have much to learn from her mettle and her sense of citizens’ outrage.
SAN FRANCISCO/WASHINGTON, Oct 17 (Reuters) - Domestic disinformation campaigns and homegrown threats to poll workers are emerging as bigger concerns ahead of the Nov. 8 U.S. congressional elections than foreign interference, according to U.S. cybersecurity and law enforcement officials. "At this time, we are not aware of any specific or credible threats to compromise or disrupt election infrastructure," top U.S. cybersecurity official Jen Easterly told reporters last week during a video conference on election security. Opinion polls have shown that a large majority of Republican voters believe Trump won that election. The Election Integrity Partnership, a non-partisan group that has helped the CISA combat election disinformation, said the vast majority of disinformation and false rumors about the 2020 election spread primarily through far-right influencers catering to Trump voters. Meta spokesperson Corey Chambliss declined to comment on the company's election security efforts.
The AI software told banks to deny millions of legitimate purchases, at a time when consumers had been scrambling for toilet paper and other essentials. Seasonal variations, data-quality changes or momentous events - such as the pandemic - all can lead to a string of bad AI predictions. Also to blame was its AI system learning from corrupted data, the company said. Arize AI, which raised $38 million from investors last month, enables monitoring for customers including Uber, Chick-fil-A and Procter & Gamble. Zoldi said consumer habits were changing too fast to rewrite the AI system.
Premarket stocks: How to read big bank earnings

Beyond disappointing headline figures, Wall Street analysts are focusing on three important factors: loan growth, capital adequacy, and the economic outlook. Loan growth: The rate at which businesses borrow money from big banks doesn’t just tell us about the health of a financial institution itself. But Wall Street estimates show that loan growth is expected to decelerate in Q4 and into next year. Growth of Individual loans will likely decline, showing that Americans are beginning to feel the pinch of rising interest rates. Capital adequacy: Expect banks to take questions about how much money they have on hand.
Meta/Handout via REUTERSOct 11 (Reuters) - Meta Platforms (META.O) unveiled its Quest Pro virtual and mixed reality headset on Tuesday, marking a milestone for Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg's break into the higher-end market for extended reality computing devices. The Quest Pro features several upgrades over Meta's existing Quest 2 headset, which overwhelmingly dominates the consumer virtual reality market. For fully immersive virtual reality, Meta has added tracking sensors to the Quest Pro that can replicate users' eye movements and facial expressions, creating a sense that avatars are making eye contact. PITCHING PRODUCTIVITYMeta is pitching the Quest Pro as a productivity device, aimed at designers, architects and other creative professionals. For now, that means the Quest Pro stops short of enabling the complex commercial applications Meta has suggested it wants its metaverse tech to support.
"Either Twitter is going to fix this, or we'll fix it by any means we can, which includes not buying Twitter ads." Twitter's challenges in identifying child abuse content were first reported in an investigation by tech news site The Verge in late August. Like all social media platforms, Twitter bans depictions of child sexual exploitation, which are illegal in most countries. Ghost Data identified the more than 500 accounts that openly shared or requested child sexual abuse material over a 20-day period this month. Twitter suspended over 1 million accounts last year for child exploitation material, according to the company's transparency reports.
In the letter to the FTC, San Mateo, California-based startup Certree said that Equifax and Experian are providing financial incentives like a slice of their revenue to employers to gain exclusive access to payroll data. Equifax also has deals with payroll software vendors that help employers process paychecks. Equifax in March described its Workforce Solutions unit, which included the payroll data on 105 million people, as its "fastest growing, highest margin, and most valuable business," with just over $2 billion in revenue. The company said workers can view or block access to records and that it has improved data security. But in the letter, Certree said the exclusivity deals pose "enormous obstacles."
Musk’s move continues a tradition of billionaires' buying control of influential media platforms, including Jeff Bezos’ 2013 acquisition of the Washington Post. [1/2] Elon Musk twitter account is seen through Twitter logo in this illustration taken, April 25, 2022. Musk, who is worth $268 billion according to Forbes, has said he is not primarily concerned with the economics of Twitter. The White House declined on Monday to comment on Musk's deal, but said President Joe Biden has long been concerned about the power of social media platforms. "The president has long talked about his concerns about the power of social media platforms, including Twitter and others, to spread misinformation."
Mapbox's response offers a window into how tech companies are pushing back as unions seek to bring workers into the fold. The CWA also formed the Alphabet Workers Union, a so-called minority union that does not have collective bargaining rights. For many tech workers, the promise of a generous payday is no longer enough. They also want sound working conditions and assurances that the products they are building will not harm society, tech employees and organizers say. On their website, members of the Mapbox Workers Union wrote that they banded together "to build a lasting, accountable, inclusive Mapbox."
And you’re adding on top of all that body shaming.”Loomis competes in the women's high jump final at the Pan American Games in August 2019 in Lima, Peru. Dr. Brooks is the vice president and chief clinical officer for the Renfrew Center, a US-based clinic specializing in eating disorders treatments. Over Brooks’ 30 year career, she has treated many patients who suffer from eating disorders and acted as the eating disorders specialist in the HBO film Thin. “We are really understanding more and more that eating disorders are not just a White, suburban women’s disease, and that, you know, for a long time the belief was that women of color, particularly Black women, were protected culturally from developing eating disorders,” said Dr. Brooks. Three years later she placed fifth in the high jump at the Commonwealth Games in Australia.
