The iconic image of the 2022 World Cup may well be Morocco’s Sofiane Boufal dancing with his mum after his team’s brilliant upset victory over Portugal in the quarterfinals. Boufal and his mother — like the majority of Morocco’s players and coaches — live in European cities, part of that continent’s vast marginalized and embattled migrant underclass. Morocco’s prowess as the first African team to make the semifinals of the World Cup brings us ever closer to fulfilling soccer icon Pelé’s prophecy. Indeed, this was the first World Cup in which all five African teams were coached by African coaches, rather than by European journeymen. The team's strategy suggests its coach has rewritten the playbook that long recommended African teams play pessimistic defensive football, hoping for a lucky break.

But you have to go back centuries in some cases to get anything nearly as bad as 2022 for 'safer' sovereign bonds. "2023 will be the year of the bond," claimed Chris Iggo, chair of the AXA IM Investment Institute. "Road to recession - bullish bonds and quality credit," was how SocGen entitled their view. And while stock volatility makes forecasters nervy, there's a clear attraction for long-term funds in seeking both the fixed income as well as the lift to bond funds when sub-par price discounts disappear into maturity for most high-quality names. "Long high quality bonds in the U.S. and Europe seems like an obvious strategy for 2023," said hedge fund manager Stephen Jen at Eurizon SLJ Capital.

MSIM said it would also tie some of the 1GT investment team's compensation to the emissions performance of underlying investments. MSIM said it has already deployed $600 million of capital to companies seeking to mitigate climate change since 2015.

STUBBORNLY HIGHBut stubbornly high inflation is making central bankers' job incredibly tricky. While there is nothing central bankers can do about present inflation rates, the mere optics of runaway prices made a "pivot" more difficult to justify. This requires an extraordinary balancing act by central bankers: persuading the market that they are serious about bringing down inflation without choking the economy. "The Fed needs to open a path towards smaller interest rate hikes without sounding too dovish," Christian Scherrmann, U.S. economist at DWS, said. The change of tone was minimal but it was enough for investors to start pricing in smaller hikes further down the road.
A jury found former Capitol police officer Michael Riley guilty Friday of obstructing the investigation into the January 6, 2021, attack. The jury could not reach a unanimous verdict on the charge related to his urging the rioter to remove posts. During the weeklong trial, prosecutors presented multiple messages Riley exchanged with Hiles beginning on January 7. In the first message, Riley introduced himself as a Capitol police officer and warned Hiles to delete social media posts placing him inside the Capitol on January 6. "Hey Jake, im a capitol police officer who agrees with your political stance," Riley wrote to Hiles.
The star forward shot 16 of 25, grabbed 14 rebounds, added five assists and also hit 10 of 14 free throws. Bruce Brown scored 18 points, Jamal Murray scored 13 points and Jeff Green scored 10 for the Nuggets. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope also had 13 points before spraining his left ankle on a drive late in the third quarter. John Collins supplied 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Hawks while De'Andre Hunter tossed in 17 points before fouling out. Washington, Kelly Oubre Jr. and reserve Jalen McDaniels all added 17 for the Hornets.
Prosecutors accused a former Capitol police officer of telling a January 6 rioter to delete evidence. But the following day, prosecutors say, Riley messaged Hiles directly over Facebook to urge him to remove posts — including selfies and videos — admitting his presence inside the Capitol. Kicking off Riley's trial on Tuesday, Dohrmann displayed several messages Riley exchanged with Hiles over Facebook in the weeks after January 6. "You see, the defendant never wanted these Facebook messages to see the light of day," she said. Despite Riley's encouragement to delete his Facebook messages, Hiles never removed them, allowing them to be used as evidence against the former Capitol police officer, Dohrmann said.

My wife, Melissa Forrest, and I run an Airbnb business together and have taught hundreds of others how to do the same. We've learned that by recognizing red flags in a guest's booking request, we can keep our properties booked with great guests that respect the neighborhood and our homes. Their booking request is full of spelling and grammar issuesAnother red flag is getting requests from guests that look like a text message. Airbnb typically confirms this verbally on the phone, saying that because we have this written in our house rules, guests know what to expect. Do you run a successful Airbnb business and have a story to tell?
