CNN —Harvey Weinstein has been diagnosed with bone cancer, a source close to the incarcerated producer tells CNN. Weinstein’s specific diagnosis is chronic myeloid leukemia, a form of cancer of the bone marrow, the source says, adding that he is undergoing treatment at Rikers Island in New York. Weinstein’s longtime spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer, declined to comment on Weinstein’s diagnosis. Weinstein’s prison consultant and authorized legal health care representative in New York state, Craig Rothfeld, shot down speculation regarding Weinstein’s diagnosis. On Monday, Weinstein’s spokesperson, Engelmayer, declined to comment on whether his upcoming trial might be impacted by his cancer diagnosis.

They found that infant mortality was higher than usual in the US in several months after the Dobbs decision and never dropped to rates that were lower than expected. In the months that infant mortality was higher than expected – October 2022, March 2023 and April 2023 – rates were about 7% higher than typical, leading to an average of 247 more infant deaths in each of those months. She was not involved in the new study, but does research abortion trends in the US. Abortion bans may affect access to and willingness to seek prenatal care and broader support systems, she said, and the barriers compound.

In contrast, retirees in West Virginia need just $58,190 a year — the lowest of any state. Over a 30-year retirement, the difference in savings needed between Hawaii and West Virginia would be over $1.25 million. A 20% cash buffer was added to this total to ensure retirees could live "comfortably," according to the study. Dallas AP —Texas has sued a Dallas doctor over accusations of providing gender-affirming care to youths, marking one of the first times a state has sought to enforce recent bans driven by Republicans. The Texas law prevents transgender people under 18 from accessing hormone therapies, puberty blockers and transition surgeries, though surgical procedures are rarely performed on children. Children’s Health said in a statement that it “follows and adheres to all state health care laws.”At least 26 states have adopted laws restricting or banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors, and most of those states face lawsuits. The lawsuit comes just weeks before an election in which Republicans have used support of gender-affirming health care as a way to attack their opponents. The Biden administration rang up a budget deficit topping $1.8 trillion in fiscal 2024, up more than 8% from the previous year and the third highest on record, the Treasury Department said Friday. Even with a modest surplus in September, the shortfall totaled $1.833 trillion, $138 billion higher than a year ago. The deficit came despite record receipts of $4.9 trillion, which fell well short of outlays of $6.75 trillion. Government debt has swelled to $35.7 trillion, an increase of $2.3 trillion from the end of fiscal 2023. Interest expense for the year totaled $1.16 trillion, the first time that figure has topped the trillion-dollar level.
