Every company has to start somewhere, and for Uline, that beginning was 1980 in the Illinois basement of Dick and Liz Uihlein. Dick Uihlein started Uline to sell a product called a carton sizer, "one of the neatest little tools I'd ever seen." Bit by bit, the Uihleins added more packing supplies to their selection and slashed delivery times to the minimum — a decade before Jeff Bezos launched Amazon. "It's weird to develop a love of corrugated boxes and shipping supplies, but I really enjoy it," Liz told the Milwaukee BizTimes in 2020. The Uihlein family as featured on the Uline website.

In a new court filing, Disney asks for damages and alleges Florida violated its contracts. It's the latest in a lawsuit in which the Florida board says Disney shouldn't have total power over its district. Disney said in the document that it "has fully complied with any and all of its obligations under the Contracts." The company alleged that the Florida board "repudiated its duty" to adhere to the contract. As the lawsuit between Disney and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District continues to proceed, DeSantis has been on the presidential campaign trail.

Republican presidential candidate and former U.S. President Donald Trump campaigns at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, Iowa, U.S. August 12, 2023. The Iowa State Fair is a political must for aspiring presidential candidates in the Midwestern state that kicks off the Republican nominating contest in January. Sarah Longwell, a Republican strategist who opposes Trump's nomination, has been holding focus groups with Republican voters all year. When asked directly about the Florida governor at the recent focus groups, one voter called him "sneaky." On Saturday, tech billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and DeSantis all appeared for interviews with Iowa's Republican governor, Kim Reynolds.

Vander Plaats and his group are leaders in the state’s Christian conservative movement, which has enormous political influence in Iowa. “It’s a lot more money” than you typically see allocated in Iowa, said Steffen Schmidt, an emeritus political science professor at Iowa State University who studies political spending in the state. “We endorsed Rick Santorum and he stormed to a caucus victory due to our base of supporters,” Vander Plaats wrote. Dunwell referred a request for comment to Vander Plaats, who said Dunwell had been paid as an “independent contractor” since June. Republican presidential candidate Florida Governor Ron DeSantis delivers remarks at the 2023 Christians United for Israel summit on July 17, 2023 in Arlington, Virginia. Attorneys for Ron DeSantis said Wednesday that the Florida governor "welcomes Disney 's surrender" on key allegations in the company's lawsuit accusing the governor of political retaliation. That's because Disney "now claims that it is challenging only the Governor's executive actions," not his legislative actions, the attorneys for DeSantis argued. "The Governor welcomes Disney's surrender on all of its claims challenging his legislative acts," they wrote, adding that Disney lacks standing to sue DeSantis on its remaining claims. It came in response to Disney's filing two weeks earlier urging the judge to reject bids by DeSantis and other defendants to dismiss the federal civil case.

REUTERS/Kevin Wurm/File PhotoAug 9 (Reuters) - Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Wednesday suspended a county prosecutor after accusing her of being soft on crime, making her the second elected Democratic law-enforcement official to be removed by the Republican presidential hopeful. "Worrell’s practices and policies have too often allowed violent criminals to escape the full consequences of their criminal conduct," DeSantis said in a statement. Worrell is not the first Florida prosecutor whom DeSantis has dismissed. DeSantis' office sent a letter in April to Worrell's office demanding that she hand over the criminal and judicial record of a suspect accused of killing three people, including a 9-year-old.

UKRAINE WAR A "TERRITORIAL DISPUTE"In March, even before he had officially launched his campaign, DeSantis called Russia's invasion of Ukraine a "territorial dispute" and claimed the war was not a "vital" U.S. interest. Last week, Robert Bigelow, DeSantis' biggest donor, told Reuters he will not donate more money unless DeSantis moderates his policy positions. Tim Scott, a fellow Republican White House rival who is Black, decried Florida's new standards, describing slavery as "devastating" for Black families. EXTREME VIDEOS THAT EVEN SOME REPUBLICANS COULD NOT STOMACHIn June and July the DeSantis campaign shared videos that were condemned as anti-gay rights and racist, even by some fellow Republicans. On the campaign trail, some of DeSantis' off-the-cuff comments have come off as strange or dissonant.

Complicating the matter for DeSantis: Trump, the front-runner in the race by far, appears unwilling to provide him with a target. Rival campaigns smell blood in the water as DeSantis has faced questions over profligate campaign spending and his readiness for the national stage. In the most recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, released last week, Trump held 47% of the Republican vote nationally, with DeSantis dropping six points from July down to just 13%. Rick Santorum, a former U.S. senator and Republican presidential candidate who participated in a series of debates in the 2012 election, said DeSantis will need to be ready for an “onslaught” of attacks. “If I was on that stage, I would be going after Trump,” Santorum said.

A commentator at China's state-run Global Times called Ron DeSantis a medium-sized Trump. Chinese pundit Ding Gang said DeSantis' China policies are "no different" from Trump's. REUTERS/Scott Morgan/File PhotoAug 7 (Reuters) - Donald Trump plans to attend the upcoming Iowa State Fair but will skip events with other Republican presidential candidates, an aide to the former president said on Monday, a move likely designed to steal the limelight from his White House rivals. Most of his rivals have agreed to be interviewed individually at the state fair by Iowa's Republican Governor Kim Reynolds between Aug. 11 and Aug. 18, but Trump turned down her invitation. In 2015, early in his ultimately successful bid for the White House, and when most pundits were dismissing his campaign, Trump flew into the Iowa State Fair in a helicopter. "Just like he had a great event in 2015, he's going to have a great event at the Iowa State Fair in 2023," the aide told Reuters.

The two-day Reuters/Ipsos poll, which closed before Trump's late-afternoon court appearance, asked respondents if they would vote for Trump for president next year if he were "convicted of a felony crime by a jury." Among Republicans, 45% said they would not vote for him, more than the 35% who said they would. The new poll showed that Republicans broadly sympathize with Trump's accusations of political persecution. About two-thirds of Republicans - 66% - described as "not believable" the accusation in Trump's latest indictment that he solicited election fraud. WASHINGTON, Aug 3 (Reuters) - Donald Trump pleaded not guilty on Thursday to federal charges that he orchestrated a plot to try to overturn his 2020 election loss in what U.S. prosecutors call an unprecedented effort by the then-president to undermine the pillars of American democracy. According to the indictment, Trump ignored advisers who told him the election was not fraudulent and helped organize fake slates of electors to try to capture electoral votes in states he had lost. The Trump campaign issued a statement accusing the Biden administration of targeting him for political gain. Trump, the first former U.S. president to face criminal charges, has been indicted on three separate occasions this year. Strategists said that while the indictments could help Trump solidify support among Republican voters, who view the charges as bogus, they could prove more damaging among independent voters in the general election against Biden. Many Republican officials, unwilling to anger Trump’s substantial base of supporters, attacked Biden instead, claiming that the latest charges were politically motivated.
