Pop superstar Taylor Swift endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president on Tuesday night, minutes after the Democratic nominee finished a contentious debate with Donald Trump. Swift wrote that she was recently "made aware that AI of 'me' falsely endorsing Donald Trump's presidential run was posted to his site." But the singer had endorsed President Joe Biden and his then-running mate Harris in the 2020 election. Trump told reporters "I have no idea" when asked about Swift's endorsement of Harris on Tuesday. "I've done my research, and I've made my choice," Swift wrote.

But child poverty rose faster than that, from 12.4% to 13.7%. "The effectiveness of such a policy is evident when one considers the effects of the Child Tax Credit." And with child poverty only worsening, what candidates can deliver for parents might be particularly salient. Is the rise in child poverty and lack of assistance impacting your family?

Former first lady Melania Trump questioned the official account of the attempted assassination this summer of her husband, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Speaking in a dramatically produced 30-second video, posted to social media Tuesday to promote her new memoir, Trump argues there is "definitely more to the story." She refers specifically to the failure of law enforcement to arrest the shooter Thomas Crooks before the near-fatal shooting of Donald Trump at a campaign rally in western Pennsylvania. "There is definitely more to this story, and we need to uncover the truth." The video ends with an image of her new book, "Melania," and a link to buy copies of it.

In the wake of the ACP's expiration, broadband companies reported losing some customers. "But that doesn't take away from the families for whom this was important, and could now lose access to broadband." Pete Marovich | ReutersStill, Sohn believes bipartisan support for the ACP should make reauthorizing it a political slam dunk for Democrats. While broadband providers were generally supportive of the ACP, many in the industry believed the subsidy benefitted too wide a swath of U.S. households. Charter Communications CEO Chris Winfrey said in July that the ACP's expiration impacted both losses and low income broadband connections after the company had "put a lot of effort into the ACP program."

Bitcoin ATMs are a rapidly growing presence in the United States and, some experts say, a rapidly growing cybercrime menace. So, while a cash ATM tucked away between the snack cakes and energy drinks at a gas station may not draw much attention, a bitcoin ATM gets more scrutiny from bad actors. But in addition to old tricks, there are newer threats bitcoin ATMs introduce that cash ATMs do not face. Although the bitcoin ATM isn't exactly drawing crowds, Patel says a surprising number of senior citizens show up at the kiosk, alarming given the rise of bitcoin ATM scams targeting seniors. Basic steps to avoid bitcoin ATM scamsTo protect against these scams, users should be cautious and skeptical of any request to pay through a bitcoin ATM.

CNNOver the last few decades, a growing number of Christians have left traditional, predominantly White evangelical churches. The post-evangelical movement predates former President Donald Trump’s political rise, but has been accelerated by his alliance with White conservative evangelical leaders. White evangelicals have been a key part of the Republican coalition since the 1980s. The exit polls estimated that 26% of 2016 voters and 28% of 2020 voters were White evangelicals. Still, Trump has maintained overwhelming support among White evangelicals since consolidating their support during the 2016 Republican primary.

The next campaign finance disclosure deadline for Harris' campaign is Sept. 20. NBC News has asked the Harris campaign for comment. After the convention, Harris campaign officials said they had raised more than $540 million since Harris took the reins of the campaign. The whopping fundraising numbers for Harris come just after the Trump campaign reported it and related entities raised $130 million in the month of August, with nearly $300 million cash on hand. Trump's campaign reported that 98% of the month's donations came in at less than $200.

JD Vance's plan to tackle high childcare costs may not take into account the looming retirement crisis facing millions of older Americans. When Kirk asked how Vance planned to address the issue, Vance suggested extended family members step in to relieve the financial burden on parents. AdvertisementNot many states require childcare workers to have college degrees or certifications. But he may have been referring to a new law in the nation's capital that requires many childcare workers to have a two-year associate degree, among other training. Vance has condemned universal childcare, calling it a subsidy for the affluent and a "class war against normal people."

Two days before his sentencing, Trump, they predict, will seek something never before allowed in the appellate courts in New York or in most states for that matter: an interlocutory appeal. AdvertisementEven Trump's Manhattan prosecutors are conceding that this is a legal monkey wrench to be reckoned with. "If New York's courts deny him a right to appeal, he can challenge the decision in federal court," said Paradis. If the federal district court in Manhattan says no, "he can appeal that to the second circuit federal court of appeals." This story has been updated to reflect Trump's federal court efforts, from August 29 to September 4, to further delay sentencing.

"Our polling consistently showed that by staying on the ballot in the battleground states, I would likely hand the election over to the Democrats," Kennedy said. This significantly reduces the potential electoral boost Trump could get in these states from Kennedy's exit. Wisconsin's Elections Commission has voted to keep Kennedy on the state's ballot. Former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who has endorsed Republican former President Donald Trump's campaign, is advising the GOP nominee to focus on Vice President Kamala Harris' policy pivots in their upcoming debate. Still, Gabbard is uniquely suited to help Trump understand what it would be like to debate Harris, given her firsthand experience during the 2020 Democratic primary contest. "What I pointed out in that debate stage in the 2020 campaign was her hypocrisy," Gabbard said. At the time, criminal justice reform was a very popular issue among Democratic primary voters. The Trump campaign recently added both Gabbard and RFK Jr. to its official transition team, and both are in reported talks for potential cabinet positions if Trump wins the White House.

The previous indictment, which clocked in at 45 pages, had included what the US Supreme Court says is the kind of official-act evidence that can no longer be used in prosecuting presidents. The replacement indictment — which uses the same font and spans 36 pages — removes references to Trump's presidential acts with surgical precision, said Michael Bachner, a former Manhattan prosecutor and frequent commentator on Trump's legal travails. But in the new indictment, it's Trump the 2020 presidential candidate, not Trump the former president, who is charged. AdvertisementIn refiling his indictment, Smith was smart to convene a new grand jury rather than re-submit the case to the original panel. Still, the new indictment doesn't guarantee that judges won't throw out the case before it ever reaches a jury.

Former President Donald Trump's economic proposals would increase federal deficits by $5.8 trillion over the next decade, almost five times more than those of Vice President Kamala Harris, which would add $1.2 trillion, according to a new pair of studies from the nonpartisan Penn Wharton Budget Model. The Trump report found that his plan to permanently extend the 2017 tax cuts would add more than $4 trillion to deficits over the next 10 years. His proposal to eliminate taxes on Social Security benefits comes with a $1.2 trillion price tag, while his pledge to further reduce corporate taxes would add nearly $6 billion. And her proposal to create a $25,000 subsidy for all qualifying first-time homebuyers would add $140 billion over a decade. Along with corporate tax hikes, Harris has said she supports the $5 trillion worth of revenue raisers contained in President Joe Biden's budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year.

The closing night of the Democratic National Convention on Thursday drew about 26.2 million TV viewers, narrowly outpacing the Republican National Convention's final night, according to data from the media measurement company Nielsen. The convention's final night aired across 15 television networks and drew about 820,000 more viewers than the estimated 25.4 million people who watched the final night of the Republican event, Nielsen reported. The first night of the Republican convention drew an estimated 18.13 million viewers, compared to around 20 million viewers on the DNC's opening night, according to Nielsen. The DNC's closing night exceeded viewership for the convention’s final night four years ago, when 24.6 million viewers tuned in across cable and TV for President Joe Biden’s speech. In 2016, 30 million viewers tuned in for the final night of the 2016 Democratic convention.

The biggest chunk – about $1.9 million – was spent by Trump’s campaign and fundraising committees on a Trump-owned company that operates his jet. Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for Trump’s campaign, said that “committees are paying the fair market rate for all venues and services” provided by Trump businesses. The dynamic of candidates shelling out thousands on Trump’s businesses while vying for his endorsement – which can make or break Republican campaigns – is an example of how politics has boosted his businesses’ bottom line. About 150 congressional candidates have reported spending campaign funds at Trump businesses, including some Democrats in the years before his first presidential bid. Walker’s campaign spent a total of nearly $215,000 at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s West Palm Beach golf club and his Las Vegas hotel.

Shares of Trump Media fell to their lowest price since Donald Trump's social media company completed a merger nearly five months ago. Trump Media, which owns the Republican former president's preferred social messaging platform Truth Social, ended the trading day at $22.24 per share, a drop of more than 3.5%. The stock price has continued to be volatile, but since mid-July has lost nearly half of its value. Trump Media's stock slump in the past four weeks coincided with a swirl of seismic developments for Trump, who is both the majority stakeholder of Trump Media and a main draw for Truth Social users. When people say they're concerned about "the economy," it can mean a lot of things — grocery prices, gas prices, housing prices, healthcare. For one thing, it's not clear that voters think Harris, as vice president, has had much involvement in Biden's economic policies. People remember the Trump economy as a better time — interest rates were lower, prices were lower, houses seemed more affordable. AdvertisementThe task for Harris now is to lay out an economic identity and agenda before others beat her to it. The Trump campaign and the GOP are trying to tie her to the negative feelings around the Biden economy, to affordability and inflation.
