It's time to buy spirits stock Brown-Forman , according to Morgan Stanley. Morgan Stanley's previous underweight call was based on limited visibility around gross margin recovery, the company's full valuation and slower U.S. spirits industry growth. However, Serotta now expects meaningful upside for the stock. Agave, which is used to produce tequila, has been a disproportionate headwind to the company's general margins over the last several years, Serotta said. Serotta also said that, while the company's absolute valuation is "rarely cheap," its relative valuation appears compelling compared to its peers Monster Beverage and Constellation Brands .

New York CNN —Modelo Especial is now officially America’s best-selling beer, dethroning Bud Light from the top spot it has largely held for the past two decades. Year-to-date sales data through August 12 shows it was tight, but Modelo eked out the top spot with an 8.34 share vs. 8.28 for Bud Light. Summer has been a bright spot for the Mexican lager, with Modelo surpassing Bud Light in May, June and July monthly sales. Modelo has held a 9.1 share for the past four weeks as Bud Light slipped to a 7 share of off-premise beer sales. There’s been some “material improvement,” for the Anheuser-Busch (BUD) brand Bud Light, according to Beer Business Daily, a trade publication.

1 beer in America due to a competitor's moves is not accurate," said Jim Sabia, executive vice president and managing director of Constellation Brands ' beer division. Bud Light's sales slump changed that. The data shows that on the four weeks ended on May 20, Modelo's share of total beer sales grew to 10.7%, while Bud Light's fell to 9.6%. "Modelo has been on a rise and Bud Light's been on a decline as we've seen overall shifts in the beer market in the last 10 years." But when it comes to success in the Mexican beer market, Constellation is relatively untouchable.

Consumers looking to save money are scaling back on big-ticket discretionary purchases, while spending at Club name Costco Wholesale (COST) continues to thrive. Excluding impacts from changes in gasoline prices and foreign exchange, total company core-comparable sales were up 5% on an annual basis last month. Costco's "stronger than expected results are a signal it continues to take share in this difficult consumer environment," analysts at UBS wrote in a note. This strategy offers higher value proposition to customers, allowing the company to raise prices while still maintaining customer engagement. Anheuser-Busch InBev, the global beer-making giant, on Thursday reported a sharp drop in sales and profit in the United States, as it counted the cost of a conservative-led boycott of Bud Light after the company’s collaboration with a transgender influencer. Bud Light has faced a backlash from conservative commentators and celebrities after Dylan Mulvaney, a transgender influencer, posted a promotion for the beer on social media in April. Bud Light was dethroned by Modelo Especial as the nation’s top-selling beer in retail sales in June. Constellation Brands, which sells Modelo in the United States, reported 7.5 percent growth in beer volumes in its most recent quarter, which ended on May 31, compared with the same period last year. Overall volume at Anheuser-Busch, which also sells Beck’s, Michelob, Stella Artois and many other brands, fell by more than 1 percent in the three months through June.

Aug 1 (Reuters) - Molson Coors Beverage (TAP.N) on Tuesday raised its annual sales and profit forecasts, boosted by strong demand for its core brands Miller Lite and Coors Light. For the Americas segment, Molson Coors' net sales rose 10.7% in the second quarter as it shipped more premium beers. Molson Coors now expects full-year 2023 sales to grow in high single-digit percentage, on a constant currency basis. Annual underlying income before income taxes is expected to increase between 23% and 26%, on a constant-currency basis, compared with a low single-digit percentage increase forecast earlier. However, Molson Coors posted second-quarter sales of $3.27 billion, missing estimates of $3.29 billion, according to Refinitiv data.

That’s a drastic change from the same quarter a year ago, when Bud Light sales were higher than Coors Light and Miller Light sales combined. Net income for the second quarter grew to $342 million, up from $47 million in the same period a year earlier. Since then, sales of Bud Light have been consistently falling by more than 20% every week (compared to the same week prior) since April. In May, the seemingly unthinkable happened: Modelo Especial displaced Bud Light from its top-selling spot in the United States for the first time, ending a roughly two-decade run for Bud Light. The beer giant is set to announce earnings — which will fully cover the Bud Light sales slide — on Thursday.

Commentary on the results Almost all calls begin with a discussion of the reported results. The reported quarter ended May 31 and the call was hosted on June 30, a full month after the quarter ended. By listening into the call, an investor could see that the reported results did not tell the full story around Wynn's business in China. As with the reported results, any comments on supply chains and customer dynamics could prove relevant to the direction of the stock. It can be quantitative, by which management provides actual targets for sales, earnings, and/or industry metrics.

We know there are so many reasons why this bull market has eluded so many. It's sudden broadening into health care, transports and financials just when we were told the bull was slain by its lack of breadth. I hope readers here know that I felt that only by tuning out the Fed could you make maximum money in the market. You simply had to ignore the verbiage, block out the gasbags who simply failed to see the two-staged bull market right in front of them. Needless to say, if you needed any evidence that we are in a bull market, the rally in that dog may be enough to make the prosecution rest.

Activist Commentary: Elliott is a very successful and astute activist investor, particularly in the technology sector. Constellation Brands produces and markets beer, wine and spirits, but it's essentially a beer company with 85% of its revenue coming from beer sales. Moreover, it is not just a niche beer business anymore. First, the company has traded at a discount because of the dual-class share structure that allowed the Sands family to control Constellation. This leaves a core beer business that can now be operated without unnecessary distractions.
