But they now face a perfect storm of factors that could make it harder than ever to keep up with the next wave of election misinformation. Experts worry that the proliferation of generative AI tools, like ChatGPT, could make it easier for bad actors to create election misinformation. OpenAI, the maker of the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT, issued a stark warning about the risk of AI-generated misinformation in a recent research paper. The platforms largely use a mix of human and automated review to identify misinformation and manipulated media.

New York CNN —Fine wine prices have been rising consistently for years, attracting investors looking to hedge against inflation, economic turmoil and stocks. The company currently manages $375 million worth of fine wine assets (that’s a 45% increase year on year). Fine wine has had a compound annual growth rate of 10% over the last 30 years, according to the Liv-Ex investables index, which tracks the going rates for fine wines. Leading the way in losses is Bordeaux, which experienced the largest drop of all fine wine categories in June. That’s a bit worrisome, said Tiwari, as Bordeaux is the most established region in the fine wine investment market and typically maintains its price stability.

It alleges that Twitter made repeated assurances to employees about its severance plan amid Musk’s takeover in an effort to retain workers. In particular, the complaint claims that Twitter had promised senior employees severance of six months of base pay plus one week for every year of service, in addition to other benefits. In response to a request for comment on the lawsuit, Twitter sent CNN an automated poop emoji. The lawsuit is just the latest legal action brought against Twitter by former employees with severance-related claims. More than 1,500 former employees have filed arbitration claims, after Twitter pushed for anyone who had signed an arbitration agreement while working at the company to pursue their claims out of court.

CNN —While many on Wall Street have chased the monster rally in mega-cap tech stocks this year, exchange-traded fund (ETF) investors seem to be bucking the “all-in on tech stocks” trend and opting for a more diversified strategy. The Nasdaq Composite index has climbed about 31% for the year, powered by a handful of tech stocks that have soared on hype surrounding artificial intelligence. The Vanguard Information Technology Index Fund saw $955 million of net outflows in the first half of 2023 compared to $291 million net inflows in the first half of last year. Investors had piled into tech-focused ETFs last year when the sector had fallen out of favor, betting that tech stocks would recover, buoyed by an economy that remains resilient despite the Federal Reserve’s punishing pace of interest rate hikes. Now, investors are exiting these ETFs and reallocating their cash to quality stocks with strong balance sheets that can withstand a potential economic downturn, says Todd Rosenbluth, head of research at VettaFi.

Kennedy, Jr. being interviewed by podcast host Jordan Peterson for violating its policy prohibiting vaccine misinformation. YouTube began cracking down broadly on vaccine misinformation in 2021, following an earlier policy preventing false or misleading claims about Covid-19. Under its policy, YouTube removes false claims about currently administered vaccines that the World Health Organization and local authorities have approved and confirmed to be safe. Although YouTube removed the video, it remains available on Twitter, showing the fractured approach to vaccine misinformation across the internet as his campaign gets underway. Global Witness targeted the ads to adult Facebook users of any gender who resided in, or had recently visited, the chosen countries. Certain roles were less strongly skewed — a package delivery job ad, for example, was shown to 38% women users in the Netherlands. New York CNN —YouTube on Friday said it will no longer remove content featuring false claims that the 2020 US presidential election was stolen, reversing a policy instituted more than two years ago amid a wave of misinformation about the election. Pressure on tech companies to combat election misinformation ramped up following the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, which was fueled by baseless claims about election fraud. Ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, YouTube said it had begun removing midterm-related videos that made false claims about the 2020 election in violation of its policies. “This includes videos that violated our election integrity policy by claiming widespread fraud, errors, or glitches occurred in the 2020 U.S. presidential election, or alleging the election was stolen or rigged,” YouTube said at the time. The policy went further than those instituted by competitors Twitter and Meta, which both stopped short of banning content questioning the outcome of the election.

CNN —Amazon has agreed to pay more than $30 million to settle two federal lawsuits alleging that the tech giant violated users’ privacy — including that of children — through its Alexa voice assistant and its Ring doorbell cameras. Amazon acquired Ring in 2018, paving the way for the e-commerce giant to get into the home security business. According to the FTC, Amazon kept Alexa voice recordings of children “indefinitely” unless a user specifically instructed the company to delete the recordings. Amazon also agreed to send consumers notices about the FTC settlement, and to implement a privacy program for geolocation data. Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the Alexa settlement.
