Wisconsin is the latest state to bring charges against people connected to the former president involved in the broad effort to overturn the presidential election results. “We hereby reaffirm that Joseph R. Biden, Jr. won the 2020 presidential election and that we were not the duly elected presidential electors for the State of Wisconsin for the 2020 presidential election,” a portion of their statement said. “We oppose any attempt to undermine the public’s faith in the ultimate results of the 2020 presidential election.”Chesebro was previously charged, and pleaded guilty, in the Georgia probe. This undercut his testimony to state prosecutors in which he said the fake electors were contingent on winning the litigation. In New York, where Trump was convicted, there are “collateral consequences” of being convicted of a felony. In Florida, felons lose civil rights, including the ability to hold public office and serve on a jury. Trump is a Florida resident, and Florida defers to New York law on the question of felons voting. In New York, convicted felons cannot obtain a permit to possess a firearm. That’s not at issue in this New York case, and it’s not going to happen when Republicans control the House as they currently do.

Federal graduate school loans are more expensive, too, with higher interest rates than loans for undergraduate studies. On top of that, 55% of master's degree-holders have debt from both their undergraduate and graduate studies, owing an average total of over $69,000. Similar to undergraduate degrees, science, technology, engineering and math-related master's degrees tend to lead to higher-paying salaries compared with degrees in the arts and humanities. That said, these are the 10 master's degrees with the highest average starting salaries for the class of 2022, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers. In fact, fewer than 60% of master's degree programs deliver a positive return on investment, according to a recent study by The Foundation for Research on Equal Opportunity.

Against this backdrop, Mary Ellen Iskenderian of Women's World Banking decided to jump in to help. Women's World Banking has focused much of its research on Ukrainian refugees, in particular, since they have overwhelmingly been women and their dependents, given the country's conscription requirements. "There's a tremendous opportunity with blockchain, finance, and digital ID," Iskenderian said. The World Bank estimates that 850 million people globally don't have proof of legal identity — that is, no birth certificate, passport, driver's license, or national ID. World Bank survey data has found that in low-income countries, 44% of women do not have an ID, versus 28% of men.

A U.S.-listed Chinese company that makes most of its money overseas could soar more than 75%, according to Morgan Stanley's newly updated forecasts. "This is because the stock has traded off recently, making short term valuation much more compelling," the Morgan Stanley analysts said, noting Tuya's quarterly results last week. Tuya shares closed Friday at $1.99, down more than 13% for the year so far. "Key play on Chinese companies going overseas, with a global leading position," the analysts said. Tuya is just one of many China-based companies going overseas as their business capabilities improve and growth at home slows.

The era of hiding out in cash is coming to an end, according to UBS. While investors have been earning yields of more than 5% on instruments like money market funds and certificates of deposit, those rates aren't expected to stick around much longer. "We believe investors should limit their overall cash balances as falling interest rates this year and beyond will diminish returns on cash," Solita Marcelli, chief investment officer Americas for UBS Global Wealth Management, wrote in a note Monday. Investors flooded into money market funds as the Federal Reserve began raising interest rates in 2022. UBS also moved out on the curve on TIPS earlier this month after initially buying 5-year inflation-protected securities in August.

Republicans are using their majority in Congress to reinforce former President Donald J. Trump’s false claims of widespread illegal voting by noncitizens, sowing the seeds of an effort to delegitimize the outcome of the 2024 election if Mr. Trump loses by pushing legislation that purports to crack down on a problem that barely exists. House Republicans have introduced a series of bills to take aim at voting by noncitizens, which is already a felony in federal elections, where those who study the issue say it almost never occurs. This week, they are planning to push through a bill that would roll back a District of Columbia law allowing noncitizens to vote in local elections, which they contend is needed to prevent Democrats from expanding the practice to other jurisdictions. And Republicans are advancing another measure that would require states to obtain proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or passport, when registering a person to vote. The legislation has virtually no chance of becoming law, but it serves to amplify one of Mr. Trump’s favorite pre-emptive claims of election fraud.

The overwhelming and overriding culprit of my students' college failures was their parents. They were terrified of letting their parents know that money had been "wasted" or that they didn't meet their parents' own college dreams for their kids. Look into community collegeSo many students told me their parents turned their noses up at the idea of their child attending a community college, and my question is: Why? Community college is cheaper, sometimes more conveniently located, and offers a less abrupt and extreme step between high school and a university.

House Republicans are pushing legislation to crack down on voting by noncitizens, part of an effort to sow doubts about the election outcome and take aim at immigrants who they say have no business participating in elections in the United States. They are planning to push through a bill this week that would roll back a Washington, D.C., law allowing noncitizen residents of the nation’s capital to vote in local elections. And they are pushing legislation that would require states to obtain proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or passport, in person when registering an individual to vote and require states to remove noncitizens from voter rolls. Neither is likely to pass the Democratic-led Senate or be signed by President Biden, but both are ways for Republicans to call attention to their false claims of widespread illegal voting by noncitizens. Former President Donald J. Trump has long claimed in the face of evidence to the contrary that presidential and congressional elections are susceptible to widespread voter fraud and illegal voting by undocumented immigrants who have skewed the outcomes in favor of Democrats — a charge that House Republicans have echoed.

Back in 2013, I got a call from Bill Maher. He was being hit with a lawsuit by Donald Trump and thought it would be “comedy gold” for my column. Maher offered to give $5 million to charity if he could see the birth certificate of Trump, who had offered $5 million to charity for records to verify the birthplace of President Barack Obama. “He’s not even a real person,” an exasperated Maher told Conan O’Brien about Trump at the time. I told Maher that it wasn’t worth writing about Trump and his silly lawsuits and risible presidential aspirations.

The question for some of us is, why some people want to keep working decades beyond retirement age? CNN Opinion editor Stephanie Griffith asked seven people who are past the conventional retirement age why they are still at the job and got as many responses as there were respondents. They continue to work happily and productively, and were happy to explain to us how and why they do it. Over the years I’ve had to adapt frequently to the changing technology, which isn’t always easy for someone my age. That may be the secret of working well past the time society tells us we’re supposed to retire.

United Airlines said the Federal Aviation Administration has cleared it to add new aircraft and routes months after the regulator stepped up its scrutiny of the carrier following several safety incidents. United said in March that the FAA had stepped up scrutiny of the airline after a spate of incidents earlier this year. That prevented it from launching new routes, including flights to Faro, Portugal, ahead of the busy summer travel season. The clearance from the FAA is welcome news as United and other carriers expect a record peak season this year. CNN —A former US Marine pilot fighting extradition from Australia on US charges of training Chinese military pilots to land on aircraft carriers, unknowingly worked with a Chinese hacker, his lawyer said. The lawyer’s filing supports Reuters reporting linking Duggan to convicted Chinese defense hacker Su Bin. The case will be heard in a Sydney court this month, two years after his arrest in rural Australia at a time when Britain was warning its former military pilots not to work for China. Su Bin, arrested in Canada in 2014, pleaded guilty in 2016 to theft of US military aircraft designs by hacking major US defense contractors. Duggan asked Su Bin to help source Chinese aircraft parts for his Top Gun tourist flight business in Australia, Collaery wrote.
