LIMA, Feb 4 (Reuters) - As deadly protests rage across Peru, a political battle is unfolding inside the halls of Congress, walled off from the streets by hundreds of police, armored vehicles and a maze of gates. Despite the violence, and despite polls that show the majority of Peruvians want the election brought forward, Congress appears to be in deadlock. Reuters spent the last week inside the 130-seat Congress in capital Lima, talking to lawmakers to ask why Peruvian politics seems to be in such a mess. "There is little agreement within political parties as to what to do," said Peruvian political analyst Andrea Moncada. "If we have elections in a year or by some miracle by the end of this year, the parties registered to participate are the same ones that are in Congress right now."

Prosecutors will need a mountain of evidence to cast Alec Baldwin as a criminally negligent gunman, skeptical defense criminal lawyers said Friday, as Hollywood appeared to rally around the oft-polarizing actor. But prosecutors insist they have FBI lab reports that show Baldwin did fire the fatal round. "Is there some intentional act that placed that live round there that we know nothing about? She urged prosecutors to stop "blaming the victim" and rhetorically asked "how about investigating who put the live round into the gun?" "Nobody is asking who put the live round into the prop gun," tweeted Fisher, best known for her role in "Titanic."
WASHINGTON, Jan 15 (Reuters) - U.S. Representative George Santos, who lied about much of his resume and life story, will be removed from Congress if found to have broken campaign finance laws, fellow Republican and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said on Sunday. Now, if he broke campaign finance laws, then he will be removed from Congress." House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has said he will leave Santos' fate to the Ethics Committee and voters. "It is one thing for a candidate such as Mr. Santos to induce voters to support him based on a web of lies," Goldman wrote in his letter. "But it is altogether something else if the top levels of Republican leadership knew about Mr. Santos' lies during the campaign and chose to be complicit."

“I was twenty the first time I heard the story of what Pa allegedly said to Mummy the day of my birth,” Harry writes. So, too, despite all Harry’s resentment, seems to be his brother. William stays by Harry’s side the night before Harry’s wedding, only leaving to stay the night with Kate and his kids. But on this topic, Harry’ resentment gets the better of him. They’ll read “Spare” and see that, personalities aside, the chief culprit for Harry’s lifelong resentment is the unfortunate law of primogeniture.

It's been a bad year for tech companies, as investors flee growth stocks in the face of rising interest rates and other headwinds. Growth stocks, such as Big Tech, were an investor favorite in an era of low rates. That would depend on the "data points that come through" when companies report fourth-quarter earnings in the February to March period, tech fund manager Jeremy Gleeson of AXA Investment Managers told CNBC Pro Talks last week. Nevertheless, Gleeson said tech stocks are "down but by no means out." Earnings is a key metric in the tech sector, he said, adding that he prefers firms with strong balance sheets.
“While respect for human rights is unquestionably a high priority, we have many other equities at stake,” McCulley wrote. He said the focus on human rights had sent relations between the two countries into the “lowest ebb” in his three years there. Nigeria’s human rights record wasn’t only a moral issue – it was a legal one. Working under these laws provided “openings to incentivise and institutionalise” human rights protections within the Nigerian military, the State Department said. The pact also noted that London and Abuja had agreed on an “enhanced human rights dialogue” to ensure compliance with international rights standards.
It’s not that theatrical film exhibition was in a particularly good place before the pandemic. Yet the astounding box-office figures of 2022 tell a different story: Movie theaters didn’t become obsolete. It offered up the best of the moviegoing experience: spectacle, plus quality, plus rewatchability. But best of all, the hunger for the overly familiar was not the only story to be told this year. But if the pandemic-era absence of theatrical releases proved one thing, it’s that people love going to the movies, really love it, and not just to see Marvel movies.
What similarities do you see between the messaging put forth by Putin and Russia today compared to Soviet Union propaganda? You compared the speech Putin gave announcing the annexation of four Ukrainian territories to the Nazi propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels. One of the more worrisome trends in Putin speeches, especially in the last six or seven months, has been how amorphous, almost existential they've been. He said what the West has done is create a culture of lies about Russia that's reminiscent of Goebbels. It's really hard to overstate how many war movies have come out in Russia in the last 10 years.

To many, she was an icon: She ruled for 70 years, presided over the transition from empire to commonwealth and served as a living link to the generation that won World War II. (Though Ben Bernanke, a former Fed chairman himself, wrote in The Times that that wasn’t going to happen.) The United States and its European allies poured weapons and aid into Ukraine, but how was this going to end? As 2022 draws to a close, the fighting continues and peace talks look as distant as ever — which probably means that the debates will continue.
Andresr | E+ | Getty ImagesYou may not be the only person eager for packages to arrive at your house. Over the last year, an estimated 260 million delivered packages were stolen, according to a report from SafeWise, an online guide to security and safety products. The total annual lost to this type of theft is an estimated $19.5 billion, according to SafeWise. "The other aspect of this crime that makes it unique and likely to continue increasing is that there's very low risk and very low skill involved," Stickle said. If possible, you should sign up to receive an email or text message when your package is supposed to arrive and when it's actually delivered, Murray said.

In Hollywood, muscle-bound actors with tree-trunk biceps rule the box office. But just how big is too big? Dwayne Johnson’s macho DC Comics character “Black Adam” has traps large enough that it’s a wonder he can turn his neck to see the bad guys. “The Lost City” actor Channing Tatum brandishes toned pecs the size of football helmets. And why exactly do the sinewy fighter pilots in “Top Gun: Maverick,” the highest-grossing film of 2022, need to look like they could bench an actual plane?
Huber shared what goes into cultivating a career as a successful audiobook narrator. "I narrated a book and I read about three-quarters of it, and then I was like: 'You know, I'm good. "There's this idea among newer narrators that seasoned narrators are getting $600 an hour, and that is not the case. It's possible for an experienced audiobook narrator working full time to earn in the low six figures, Huber added. But even before considering that step, Huber suggested reading a book aloud for a long stretch.
I made a separate account from my current one because the ad plan wouldn't have kicked in until after my next bill later this month. By contrast, Netflix's ad-based plan, called "Basic with Ads," costs $7 per month with 720p/HD viewing quality. On Thursday, four movies in the top 10 in the US were locked on the ad plan, including the No. It's not until I searched for specific titles, which pop up other related titles, that I could see more of what was locked (locked titles have a convenient lock symbol on them). Not everything on Netflix's ad plan is available.
