England had already been eliminated after six defeats in seven matches in a debacle that has prompted demands for an overhaul of their one-day squad. Electing to bat at Eden Gardens, England racked up a solid 337-9, with three of their top four batters smashing fifties in their third 300-plus total of the tournament. Pakistan were all out for 244 in the 44th over and bowed out of the tournament after their fifth loss in nine matches. New Zealand have joined India, South Africa and Australia in the semi-finals. The rules for short-term accommodation rental services, proposed by the European Commission last year, aimed to tackle the patchwork of different national laws across the 27-country zone regulating Airbnb and similar companies. Officials from EU countries and EU lawmakers will meet to thrash out the final details of the rules on Nov. 15, according to the Parliament agenda. Airbnb said EU-wide rules would be a watershed moment for short-term rental companies. Paris, Venice, Barcelona and other places popular with tourists blame Airbnb for aggravating housing shortages by pushing out lower-income residents.

CNN —John Oliver is transforming from a comedian into a campaign manager for one of the biggest elections of the year: New Zealand’s Bird of the Century poll. On his show “Last Week Tonight” on Monday, he backed the pūteketeke bird as New Zealand’s Bird of the Century, a competition organized by the conservation group Forest & Bird. John Oliver loves the pūteketeke for its 'colorful mullet,' among other reasons. Initially launched to raise awareness of New Zealand’s endangered, endemic birds, the contest is usually an annual two-week event and has become a national institution. A bat, rather than a bird, won the competition in 2021, while mass voter fraud threatened to delegitimize the competition the year before.

CNN revisited the footage broadcast live by Al Jazeera on the night of the explosion to better understand what has been considered a key piece of evidence. Still, no visual evidence has surfaced showing a rocket hitting the hospital, and CNN cannot exclude other possibilities. CNN could not independently assess whether what is visible in the video is in fact an Iron Dome interceptor missile. The video appears to show the volley emanating from a location southwest of Al-Ahli Hospital, outside of Gaza City. CNN cannot independently confirm whether a rocket fired from southwestern Gaza was responsible for the blast.

De Niro, referenced mostly as “Bob” in court, has not returned to court since his testimony concluded Tuesday. Asked Thursday by her lawyer how common it was for De Niro to lash out angrily, Robinson remided the jury of that outburst. KOLKATA, India, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Former champions Pakistan kept alive their slender chances of making the semi-finals of the 50-over World Cup with a comprehensive seven-wicket victory against Bangladesh, who were eliminated from the tournament on Tuesday. Babar Azam's men moved into fifth place after their third win in seven matches, while Bangladesh became the first team to drop out of contention. "We are trying to force things but it isn't working," Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan said after their sixth defeat in seven matches. Bradburn must have been pleased as the pace trio of Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Wasim and Haris Rauf collectively claimed eight of the 10 Bangladesh wickets in the match. "We are trying to win our remaining matches and see where we stand," Babar said of their semi-final hopes.

Because spillover risk is concentrated in lower income countries in the tropical south, the cost of preventing another pandemic falls squarely on nations that can least afford it. To that end, federal and state officials say they are talking about ways to protect bat habitats in areas where spillover risk is high. Investigators still don’t know precisely how the virus jumped from bats to people in each of the four Kerala outbreaks dating back to 2018. Pakistan coach rues lack of swing in India

KOLKATA, India, Oct 30 (Reuters) - Lack of swing in India has taken much sting out of the Pakistan pace attack in the 50-overs World Cup, head coach Grant Bradburn said ahead of Tuesday's clash against Bangladesh. "We have a great resource of fast bowling talent in Pakistan," Bradburn told reporters on Monday. "We do rely on swing, but we haven't experienced too much swing here. Pakistan's batting has not been consistent either and Bradburn said one of the top four batters must bat deep if they were to put up big totals in their remaining matches. Pakistan must win their remaining three group matches and hope other results go their way to make the last four, a situation Bradburn called far from ideal.

Rohit Sharma saved India's blushes with a captain's knock of 87 in what initially appeared a below-par total of 229-9 on a tricky surface at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Put into bat, the hosts slumped to 40-3 in the 12th over before Rohit forged a 91-run partnership with KL Rahul (39) to arrest their slide. Suryakumar Yadav contributed a breezy 49 down the order and India's tailenders scored some useful runs towards the end to take them past the 225-mark. England were reduced to 52-5 inside 16 overs in a remarkable batting capitulation and were eventually bundled out for 129 in inside 35 overs with Mohammed Shami claiming 4-22 for India. BENGALURU, Oct 26 (Reuters) - Sri Lanka restricted England to a below-par 156 all out in 33.2 overs in a must-win clash between the World Cup's stragglers on Thursday, with only Ben Stokes offering some resistance in a dismal batting display by the defending champions. Stokes (43) took the attack to Sri Lanka on a dry wicket at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium after England's middle-order collapsed in the face of some incisive bowling, but he holed out to Dushan Hemantha in the deep off Lahiru Kumara (3-35) in the 31st over. Sri Lanka earlier put the brakes on England's scoring as returning veteran Angelo Mathews (2-14) removed opener Dawid Malan (28) and helped run out Joe Root, before Kumara struck twice to leave the holders in trouble at 85-5.
