When former President Donald J. Trump walked onto the stage at his rally in Atlanta on Saturday, fog machines shot white plumes of smoke into the air, heralding his arrival. If you looked closely, you could almost imagine steam pouring out of his ears, too. All week long, something had been giving him the vapors. “Crazy Kamala,” he fumed a minute into his speech. It was the first major rally of her newborn campaign, and she had two rappers (Quavo and Megan Thee Stallion) on hand to hype up her crowd.

Harris has strength with young voters and minoritiesBiden in 2020 swept nearly every swing state, boosted by his electoral advantage with young voters and minorities. And the latest Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll taken in Georgia showed Harris and Trump tied at 47% support each among registered voters. And if Trump holds on to 2020 instead of uniting Georgia Republicans, Harris will likely benefit.

Former President Donald J. Trump suggested without evidence on Saturday that Georgia’s Republican governor was hampering his efforts to win the battleground state in November, a claim that carried echoes of Mr. Trump’s attempt to overturn his defeat to President Biden there in 2020. “In my opinion, they want us to lose,” Mr. Trump said, accusing the state’s governor, Brian Kemp, and its secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, who is also a Republican, of being disloyal and trying to make life difficult for him. Mr. Trump lost to Mr. Biden by roughly 12,000 votes in Georgia in 2020. Last year, the former president was indicted by an Atlanta grand jury on charges related to his efforts to subvert the results of that election in that state. On Saturday, he complained that he might have avoided legal jeopardy if Mr. Kemp and Mr. Raffensperger had cooperated with his attempts to reverse the 2020 results.

The legendary Bolt, winner of three consecutive 100m gold medal between 2008 and 2016, said that he would try not to overthink things. Vice President Kamala Harris has won enough delegate votes to secure the Democratic presidential nomination, Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison announced Friday, though the results are not yet official. The DNC will not make an official announcement of results until Monday evening, when the virtual voting process closes for delegates to next month’s Democratic National Convention. Harris is running unopposed for the Democratic nomination after President Joe Biden dropped his re-election bid and endorsed her last month. Virtual voting for the roughly 4,700 delegates to the convention began Thursday morning and is not scheduled to conclude until 6 p.m. Harris' campaign says she received more than the 2,350 votes needed to secure the nomination a little over day into the process.

Nominee acceptance speeches for the convention, which begins the week of August 19, are currently scheduled for that Wednesday and Thursday night, according to convention officials. The presidential campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris said Friday that its political operation raised $310 million in July, dwarfing the tally raised for the Republican nominee Donald Trump in the same month. Harris' team raised the eye-popping sum between the campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and joint fundraising committees. Trump's team said its larger political organization, which includes the former president's campaign and joint fundraising committees, raised $138.7 million in July. Harris' massive fundraising haul underscores renewed enthusiasm from Democratic donors, some of whom were hesitant to open their checkbooks after Biden's disastrous debate performance against Trump in late June. "More than 3 million donors made over 4.2 million contributions – with more than 2 million donors making their first donation this cycle," the campaign said in a press release.

Kevin Lamarque | ReutersWhen it comes to the November election, there is one issue that is at the top of voters' wish lists: Social Security. It polled 1,831 adults age 18 and up who "currently receive or expect to receive Social Security." Experts say the post likely refers to the taxes Social Security beneficiaries may owe on their benefit income. Exactly how much Social Security beneficiaries pay in taxes is based on their "combined income," which includes adjusted gross income, nontaxable interest and half of their Social Security benefits. Yet in a March CNBC interview, Trump said he would consider cutting "entitlements," which may refer to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid.

I think it’s totally reasonable for the president to call that out, and that’s all he did,” Vance said. Trump’s remarks are false – Harris, who was born in Oakland, California, and attended the historically Black Howard University in Washington, has never downplayed her racial identity. “And I think it’s because bad guys all over the world recognize Donald Trump’s about to be back in office, so they’re cleaning house. It would not have solved any of the problems that Kamala Harris has caused.”He said the Biden administration should instead take executive action. “They just need to empower Border Patrol to tell people who want to come in illegally, ‘You’re not allowed to do that.’ They just need to use the authority that the border czar, Kamala Harris, has.”
