Hunter Biden, son of U.S. President Joe Biden, departs federal court after a plea hearing on two misdemeanor charges of willfully failing to pay income taxes in Wilmington, Delaware, July 26, 2023. The criminal probe of Hunter that led to the pending case in Delaware federal court began in late 2018, during the Trump administration. Weiss soon afterward was appointed special counsel in the case by Attorney General Merrick Garland. The prosecutor has been criticized by Trump and his allies for the initial plea deal and for not charging Hunter with more serious crimes. Hunter's lawyers, in turn, argue that the current gun charges are barred by the diversion agreement.

CENTRAL ISLIP, New York, Nov 14 (Reuters) - A former fundraiser for indicted U.S. Representative George Santos pleaded guilty to fraud on Tuesday, adding to the pressure on the embattled New York Republican. U.S District Judge Joanna Seybert accepted the plea, part of an agreement with federal prosecutors, and set Miele's sentencing for April 30. At the hearing, Miele admitted he pretended he was chief of staff to the then minority leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, to help solicit contributions for Santos' campaign. Miele is the second person close to Santos to plead guilty to federal charges in recent weeks. Nancy Marks, Santos' former campaign treasurer, pleaded guilty on Oct. 5 to a conspiracy charge for inflating his 2022 congressional campaign's fundraising numbers.

The White House argued the Republican bill would eliminate entirely the domestic manufacturing requirement for government-funded electric vehicle (EV) chargers "thereby harming domestic manufacturing and American jobs." Congress has set aside $7.5 billion to fund electric vehicle charging stations. The White House said the bill to rescind the waiver would also overturn the FHWA decision to extend Buy America rules to EV chargers. As a result, the 1983 Reagan administration decision to exempt manufactured products from Buy America requirements would again apply, meaning EV chargers would not be covered by any Buy America requirements, the White House said. Rubio said the waiver would allow government funds to "go into the hands of Chinese companies to build electric vehicle charging stations."

And if the political strategist James Carville was right that “it’s the economy, stupid,” the next several months could make or break Joe Biden’s economic record. As things stand, the current ruler of the free world touts a fragile advantage. Households’ disposable income after adjusting for inflation hit a record $20 trillion in the month that Biden’s measure was approved, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis. STUDENT LOANSForgiving swaths of student debt was another of Biden’s campaign promises, but his efforts have so far failed. And with higher interest rates making debt service more expensive, Biden’s spending could come back to bite him on election day.

The challenge to the rule was brought by immigrant advocacy groups represented by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Through September, 12% of migrants who had applied for an exception under the rule had received it, Boynton said. Consumer goods companies have been bumping up product prices to offset spiraling raw material and labor costs as well as the impact of a stronger dollar, although investors have raised concerns that higher prices might dent demand. Last week, toothpaste maker Colgate-Palmolive (CL.N) raised its annual sales and profit forecasts again, while Kleenex tissue maker Kimberly-Clark (KMB.N) has also hiked its full-year profit expectations for a third time. "We are maintaining our full-year EPS outlook, with higher revenue and gross profits being offset by higher marketing and selling, general, and administrative (SG&A) dollars," CEO Matthew Farrell said in a statement. The charges stem from him "possessing an unloaded gun for 11 days five years ago," Biden wrote, adding they "appear to be the first-ever of their kind brought in the history of Delaware." Biden pleaded not guilty last month to a three-count indictment in the case in a U.S. District Court in Wilmington, Delaware.
