Former President Barack Obama will campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris in Pittsburgh next week, his first foray into the election as a battleground-state surrogate. The event, according to a senior Harris campaign official, will launch a larger effort by Obama, who intends to ramp up his campaigning for Harris in the final stretch of the election cycle. “President Obama believes the stakes of this election could not be more consequential and that is why he is doing everything he can to help elect Vice President Harris, Governor Walz and Democrats across the country,” Eric Schulz, a senior adviser to Obama, said in a statement. Harris and Obama’s relationship spans two decades, with the two first meeting as Obama was seeking election to the Senate in 2004. Grassroots fundraising content signed by Obama and events featuring him have generated more than $76 million for the campaign this cycle, a second senior Harris campaign official said.

Soon, the Menendez brothers’ case would continue to play out amid another high-profile murder case prosecuted by the same DA’s office. The prosecutor, having successfully argued to exclude the abuse testimony, mocked the brothers’ defense during his closing arguments for not producing any evidence of abuse. WASHINGTON — A group of national security experts led by Cabinet members from the Trump administration endorsed former President Donald Trump on Wednesday, citing his foreign policy record and calling him "a peacemaker." The group, organized by former Trump national security adviser Robert O'Brien and former National Security Council chief of staff Alex Gray, wrote in a letter that "securing peace" is "the legacy of Trump." The letter comes amid an escalating conflict in the Middle East between Iran and Israel, as well as Russia's war in Ukraine. "The policies of the Biden-Harris Administration have invited conflict, diminished America’s standing around the globe, and imperiled our national security," the letter says. The signers do not include Trump's first secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, or his secretaries of defense, James Mattis and Mark Esper.

Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance said "Kamala Harris' open border" has "destroyed” the lives of American citizens in Springfield, Ohio, before having his mic cut by debate moderators. Vance, who initially raised the claim days before Trump amplified it, did not repeat it during the vice presidential debate. But most of the Haitian migrants there are there legally, and local officials have strongly disputed Trump and Vance's portrayal of the city. At Tuesday's debate, things grew heated around Springfield after CBS News moderators Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan interjected to note the Haitian immigrants in Springfield have legal status before trying to move on. The moderators had warned at the beginning of the debate that they reserved the right to cut the mics at anytime to uphold the debate rules.

Here are key lines from the debate, which was hosted by CBS News in New York City on Tuesday. Vance said many of the things Trump says, but he did it with a control that Trump lacks. The only answer is during the four years that Donald Trump was president. We have a historic immigration crisis because Kamala Harris started and said that she wanted to undo all of Donald Trump’s border policies. We could come together and solve this if we didn’t let Donald Trump continue to make it an issue.
