Flights to and from Catania, a popular tourist destination, would be suspended until 8:00 p.m. (1800 GMT), the airport said on Twitter. The latest cancellations at Catania airport, which attracts more arrivals than the island's capital, Palermo, came a month after a fire at a terminal building led to weeks of disruptions for passengers.

Chinese banks are estimated to have issued 800 billion yuan ($110.98 billion) in net new yuan loans last month, down sharply from 3.05 trillion yuan in June, according to the median estimate in the survey of 29 economists. But the expected new loans would be higher than the 679 billion yuan issued in the same month a year earlier. Chinese banks doled out 15.73 trillion yuan in new loans in the first six months of this year, the highest first-half number on record, central bank data showed. Outstanding yuan loans were expected to grow by 11.3% in July from a year earlier, the same as in June, the poll showed. In July, TSF is expected to fall sharply to 1.10 trillion yuan from 4.22 trillion yuan in June.

Aug 3 (Reuters) - Specialized cloud provider CoreWeave has raised $2.3 billion in a debt facility led by Magnetar Capital and Blackstone (BX.N) and collateralized by Nvidia chips, with the funds to be used to expand to meet rising AI workload, the company said on Thursday. Other lenders in the facility include Coatue and DigitalBridge (DBRG.N), as well as BlackRock, PIMCO, and Carlyle (CG.O). Nvidia-backed CoreWeave has seen a boost from the generative AI boom thanks to its purpose-built cloud infrastructure at scale. It has partnerships with AI startups and cloud providers, which it also competes with, to build clusters to power AI workload. CoreWeave also raised $421 million in equity this year led by Magnetar Capital at a valuation of over $2 billion.

☆ Romania bids to clear Danube logjam after Ukraine attack

Romanian authorities managing the waterway still expect a "peak" in traffic in August, despite the attack, an official said. Before Russia pulled out of the safe passage corridor, the Danube ports accounted for around a quarter of Ukraine's grain exports. Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said Russia's attacks on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure on the Danube amounted to war crimes. "We will clear around 30 ships in two days, at least 12 today, if not 14, and the rest tomorrow." Industry sources have told Reuters war risk cover for Ukraine's ports that were part of the previous grain deal had already been suspended.

The mural is part of the "Life between Worlds" project by Scholas Occurrentes, an international educational movement that links about half a million schools on five continents. About 30 murals painted by students and community members were brought together to form a single work in the seaside town of Cascais. "It's very virtual but not very physical," José María Del Corral, president of Scholas Occurrentes, joked between the pope's first and second attempts.
