However, the producers of the awards show managed to push things as far as they were allowed, he said. Netflix, Amazon, Paramount+, and Disney competed for attention with premieres and eye-catching installations. While there, I got to witness South by Southwest's opening weekend, which was dominated by the streaming heavyweights Netflix, Amazon, and Paramount+, with a cameo from Disney. AdvertisementTheir last big hope: That if the awards featured big movies people have seen or at least heard of, audiences might return. That was supposed to happen this year, when monster hits "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" were both up for multiple awards, including Best Picture. And the producers for ABC's broadcast smartly leaned into it, by doing things like bringing in "Barbie" nominee Ryan Gosling to sing and dance, to general acclaim. On the other hand: That means this year's telecast still drew considerably less than the 23.6 million viewers who watched the 2020 show, which didn't have anything like "Barbie" or "Oppenheimer," box-office-wise. Back then, a couple of the Best Picture nominees were ones regular folks may have seen in theaters, including "Ford V. Ferrari" and "Joker."

They still couldn't land a deal on Friday's episode of ABC's "Shark Tank" due to making what billionaire investor Mark Cuban referred to as "the biggest mistake startups make": trying to grow their brand too quickly. Skaloud and Feiereisen co-founded Boona, a Seattle-based company that makes a $249 showerhead called the "Tandem." "We want to build a brand," Feiereisen said. "Some of the greatest deals in 'Shark Tank' history [are] when the entrepreneur focused on that one application and maxed it out." And if we do create new products, it's to support Tandem," Feiereisen said, trying to reel investors back in.

For nearly two decades, Jim Cramer and his team of "Mad Money" researchers and producers have tried to break the "magician's code" of Wall Street to help individual investors make money in the stock market. They talked about the days when Cramer was a crime reporter and lived in his car in California before eventually landing on Wall Street. "To entertain is not what people think of" when they think of Wall Street, he added. Indeed, the concept behind "Mad Money" – a fun, but educational show about investing featuring calls from at-home viewers – had its doubters at the beginning, Cramer and Gilgan said on stage. Similarly, it's hard to tell how "3 Body Problem" will pan out even from its first season, which by the end still feels like it's only barely gotten started. Netflix"3 Body Problem" is based on Chinese author Liu Cixin's "Remembrance of Earth's Past" trilogy. The modern-day storyline is less compelling — at least so farJin Cheng (Jess Hong) and Jack Rooney (John Bradley) in "3 Body Problem." "3 Body Problem" has a "Contact"-like bent, in that it attempts to use science and extraterrestrial life to interrogate the idea of God itself.
