“There’s no one that can organize quite like labor,” Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said. All together, labor leaders predict thousands of union members will deploy to battleground states to knock on doors or work phone banks. “It will be determinative,” Butler said of the Sun Belt labor groups' role in the November election. “Arizona is going to be a state that, at the end of the day, will elect the president — President Harris — I truly believe that,” McLaughlin said. “Momentum will carry Vice President Harris and Governor [Tim] Walz through.

Accused sex trafficker Sean "Diddy" Combs was set to return to a New York City courtroom on Wednesday afternoon, where his lawyers will again push for bail and pre-trial freedom from "horrific" jail conditions. Combs came to New York City to surrender to government agents before his arrest, defense lawyers said. Furthermore, Combs said he shouldn't be subjected to rough conditions at a federal lockup in New York City, citing murders and suicides that have occurred in that jail in recent years. "Numerous courts in this district have raised concerns with the horrific conditions of detention here." A grand jury indicted Combs on three felony counts: racketeering, sex trafficking and using transportation to engage in prostitution, court documents showed.

YouTube will also integrate generative AI text and image output into an “Inspiration” feature for creators, which is intended to feed them suggestions and examples for video content. Mohan said that 92% of YouTube creators already use AI tools. The new AI video creation tool is called “Veo.” Creators will input text prompts to create AI images, which can then become the basis of the six-second clips. Mohan teased it with an AI-generated video of a dog and a sheep becoming friends. YouTube is the latest platform to announce AI-generated video capabilities, following demos from OpenAI of their text-to-video technology Sora.

WASHINGTON — House Republicans on Wednesday are expected to derail their own plan to avert a government shutdown at the end of the month, with the party divided over the length of a short-term funding bill and what, if anything, should be attached to it. Democrats, who want a “clean” three-month funding patch with nothing attached, and nearly all plan to vote no. But the overwhelming majority of rank-and-file Republicans back Johnson’s move, saying holding the vote will put lawmakers on record. Everyone.”Davidson, who was ousted in July from the far-right House Freedom Caucus, lamented that Republicans have failed to unify behind a plan weeks before the election. That would buy time for bipartisan negotiators to strike a longer-term funding deal during the lame-duck session for fiscal year 2025 — if a short-term bill can pass the House.

At least five game show contestants were "shamelessly exploited" and subjected to "unreasonable, unsafe" working conditions on Amazon Prime's "Beast Games,” a California civil action said this week. "Beast Games" has been billed as a reality competition program with $5 million in prize money, according to Amazon which acquired streaming rights to the show. "Defendant production companies and Amazon shamelessly exploited the labor of approximately (redacted) people who served as contestants," according to lawyers representing the plaintiffs. The 50-page complaint also redacted details of how plaintiffs allegedly suffered and broadly suggested that work conditions were unsuitable. There was also "insufficient medical staff to attend to potential and actual injuries during" production, lawyers for the contestants said.

Passengers said a pressurization issue on a Delta Air Lines flight Sunday left them with bloody noses and ears. A spokesperson for the airline company said that Flight 1203 from Salt Lake City to Portland, Oregon, was unable to pressurize above 10,000 feet. Passenger Jaci Purser told NBC affiliate KSL-TV of Salt Lake City that she felt her ear pop and then bubble because of the pressure in the cabin. It's not clear what caused the pressurization issue but Delta technicians were able to fix it. The plane was briefly taken out of service Sunday morning and went back into service the following day, Delta said.

A Ukrainian drone attack on a Russian missile facility early Wednesday threw up towering fireballs visible from space and thundering detonations that triggered earthquake monitors. Officials on both sides said it was the result of a large Ukrainian drone attack on Toropets, a town in the Tver region around 230 miles from the Russian capital. Russian state media has previously reported that the military was building an arsenal for storing missiles and other explosives there. Russia’s air defense systems destroyed some 54 drones launched overnight against five western Russian regions, Russian state news agencies said, citing a report from Moscow’s defense ministry. Kyiv has increasingly been hitting back with drone attacks on what it says are military targets on Russian soil.

That cleared the way for counties to start preparing, printing and distributing mail ballots to those who request them. Most rejected ballots are tossed out for arriving after Election Day, but thousands have been rejected for missing signatures and similar paperwork errors. Pennsylvania's mail ballots have once again been the subject of a major election-year legal battle. The state Supreme Court ruled last week that mail ballots with improper dates can't be counted. Looking ahead to November, clerks in Pennsylvania still won’t be able to process any mail ballots before Election Day, meaning it could again take days to count them.

JPMorgan Chase has created a new global role overseeing all junior bankers in an effort to better manage their workload after the death of a Bank of America associate in May forced Wall Street to examine how it treats its youngest employees. The firm named Ryland McClendon its global investment banking associate and analyst leader in a memo sent this month, CNBC has learned. The move shows how JPMorgan, the biggest American investment bank by revenue, is responding to the latest untimely death on Wall Street. Later that month, JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon said his bank was examining what it could learn from the tragedy. Exceptions can be made for live deals, said the person, who declined to be identified speaking about the internal policy.

CNN —Iranian hackers sent unsolicited information they stole from Donald Trump’s presidential campaign to people who were affiliated with Joe Biden’s campaign over the summer, federal law enforcement officials said Wednesday. The law enforcement statement Wednesday said that the hackers’ efforts to send information to US media outlets have continued. Law enforcement officials have previously said that those efforts also included an unsuccessful attempt to hack the Biden-Harris campaign. The Iranian hackers did breach the email account of longtime Trump ally Roger Stone to target campaign staff in June, CNN has reported. Investigators believe the suspected Iranian hackers breached Stone’s account and then used that email account to try to break into the account of a senior Trump campaign official as part of a persistent effort to access campaign networks.

It's the first time the Federal Reserve has cut rates since March 2020. The unemployment rate also ticked down in August, giving the Fed the data it needed to cut rates. AdvertisementAccording to CME FedWatch, which estimates interest-rate changes based on market predictions, a rate cut was all but certain; the question was how big of a cut the Fed would implement. Additionally, some economists and Democratic lawmakers had for months been calling for a rate cut of at least 50 basis points. Read previewThe simultaneous detonation of thousands of pagers in Lebanon on Tuesday is a harbinger of a darker and more dangerous age of individualized attacks, according to a retired general and warfare strategist. The pagers were ordered by Hezbollah and were tampered with before they reached Lebanon, some of the officials said. "This is yet another demonstration that individuals are increasingly vulnerable to highly precise and personalized attacks," he said. Related storiesRyan cited the use of armed first-person-view drones on the battlefields in Ukraine and Russia, which he said showed the use of lethal personalized attacks had escalated in the past two years. He said the pager attack on Hezbollah "opens a dangerous Pandora's box" and makes almost everyone a "walking ticking bomb."
