Now, a year after Alameda collapsed, Ellison is preparing to testify as a key witness at the Oct. 3 criminal fraud trial against its founder, another budding young philanthropist who also owned the now-bankrupt FTX cryptocurrency exchange: Sam Bankman-Fried. She told the FTX podcast she decided to join Bankman-Fried at Alameda despite lacking experience with cryptocurrencies to "maximize my impact." ELLISON MAY TESTIFY ABOUT ENCRYPTED MESSAGESProsecutors may ask Ellison about whether Bankman-Fried directed employees to use encrypted messaging platforms and ensure their messages automatically deleted. She has told prosecutors that Bankman-Fried said it is hard to build a case if information is not written down or preserved, court records show. Days before FTX declared bankruptcy, Ellison told Bankman-Fried her "increasing dread of this day" had been weighing on her for a long time, according to prosecutors.

In a brief order, a five-judge panel of the Appellate Division, a mid-level appeals court in Manhattan, denied Trump's motion to postpone the trial. Engoron's decision on Tuesday showed that he believed the appeals court ruling had little effect on James' case. NEW YORK (AP) — Does a judge’s fraud finding spell the end of Donald Trump ’s real estate empire? He decried Tuesday’s ruling, which shifts control of some of his companies to a court-appointed receiver, as the “KILL TRUMP” decision. As he quizzed the judge, Kise noted that some of the Trump entities being stripped of their business licenses own properties such as Trump Tower and an office building at 40 Wall Street, both in Manhattan. “Is it the court’s position that those assets are now going to be sold or just going to be managed under the direction of the (receiver)?” Kise asked. That would far exceed even the highest value he listed for Mar-a-Lago on his financial statements, $739 million in 2018.

Trump's lawyers were back on Wednesday before the NY judge who on Tuesday "dissolved" Trump Org. One asked the judge if the LLCs that own the Trumps' homes are covered under the dissolution. But concern – including over the fate of the Trump residences that are held as LLCs under the Trump Org umbrella – was present in abundance. At Wednesday's morning-long hearing, the judge gave Trump's side the 30 days they requested to agree to a receiver. 'You have New York entities that just own a house or a townhouse.

NEW YORK, Oct 26 (Reuters) - A few years after graduating from college, Sam Bankman-Fried grew worried he was not taking enough risks. Two years after launching a hedge fund, Alameda Research, Bankman-Fried founded FTX, an exchange that let users buy and sell digital assets such as bitcoin. Based in the Bahamas, Bankman-Fried became known for his mop of unkempt curly hair and for wearing rumpled shorts, even when entertaining dignitaries like Bill Clinton. They contend the theft came to a head in 2022, when crypto prices swooned and he used FTX funds to plug losses at Alameda. Defense lawyers have argued that their cooperation agreements with prosecutors encourage them to implicate Bankman-Fried in the hopes of receiving lenient sentences.

NEW YORK (AP) — A judge ruled Tuesday that Donald Trump committed fraud for years while building the real estate empire that catapulted him to fame and the White House. Engoron’s ruling, in a phase of the case known as summary judgment, resolves the key claim in James’ lawsuit, but several others remain. “Today, a judge ruled in our favor and found that Donald Trump and the Trump Organization engaged in years of financial fraud," James said in a statement. James’ lawsuit is one of several legal headaches for Trump, the Republican front-runner in next year's election. James’ lawsuit does not carry the potential of prison time, but could complicate Trump's ability to transact real estate deals.

Prosecutors say Bankman-Fried directed Wang to change FTX's computer code to allow Alameda to borrow unlimited sums of money, a privilege other exchange users lacked. The ruling is a pre-trial win for the state Attorney General, who wants him banned from doing business in NY. Instead, the judge gave a major victory to Attorney General Letitia James, finding in her favor that Trump is liable for fraud. "The New York Attorney General is none of the above." The judge described how Trump, his adult sons Donald Jr. and Eric, the Trump Organization and other defendants made up valuations and inflated Trump's net worth to suit their business needs. Trump and the other defendants have argued that they never committed fraud, and that the challenged transactions were profitable. Engoron said James submitted "conclusive evidence" that Trump had overstated his net worth by between $812 million and $2.2 billion. Engoron's decision does not automatically mean James' fraud case will go to trial next Monday. Trump has sued to delay the trial, accusing Engoron and James of ignoring the appeals court order to narrow the case.

Now, they're auctioning them off, including Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's apartment. The news comes just days after Ukraine launched an offensive on a Russian naval shipyard in Crimea. Now, Russian-installed officials in Crimea — placed there by Russian President Vladimir Putin after Russia annexed the peninsula from Ukraine in 2014 — say they will soon auction off about 100 of these properties, Reuters reported. AdvertisementAdvertisementRussian officials first announced in May they would sell Zelenskyy's Crimea apartment and use the proceeds to fund their war in Ukraine, Insider previously reported. The announcement of the planned auction comes after Ukrainian forces launched a missile strike against a Russian naval shipyard in Crimea on Wednesday morning, Insider previously reported.

The group included Ukrainian military and government officials, who are always in the market for explosive shells to lob at invading Russian soldiers. And joining the group was a stout, bearded man who served both the buyers and sellers: Vladimir Koyfman, a chief sergeant in the Ukrainian military whom Mr. Morales pays to arrange meetings with his government contacts. That unusual arrangement, legal experts say, tests the boundaries of American and Ukrainian corruption laws prohibiting payments to government officials. The administration has sent Ukraine more than $40 billion in security aid, including advanced weapons like HIMARS rockets and Patriot missiles. But the Pentagon also relies heavily on little-known arms dealers like Mr. Morales, who have the connections needed to secure ammunition, much of it lower-quality or Soviet-caliber, from around the world.

The wages in Bali, which has a population of more than four million people, can be higher than in other parts of Indonesia. Others, like four of the five young housekeepers who died in the elevator accident last week, are day laborers or contractors who work without a social safety net, sometimes for years. In the Ayuterra Resort case, the government insurance agency decided to give all five workers insurance payouts of over $10,000. Representatives for Ayuterra Resort, in the Ubud area of Bali, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. On Thursday, the online rate for a two-bedroom Ayuterra penthouse villa with a private pool in October was nearly $700.
