Jeff Yang CNNNaturally, Apple has locked down the details of the revelations it plans on releasing on Monday tighter than Fort Knox. Apple CEO Tim Cook introduces Apple Vision Pro, a mixed reality headset, at Apple Park in Cupertino, CA, on June 5, 2023. What’s the songs-in-your-pocket equivalent for Vision Pro? But so far, if Apple is looking to reclaim its real-world relevance, Vision Pro isn’t it — yet. Let’s hope that at this WWDC, the company defiantly ignores last year’s laughter and continues to look, and think, different.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi gestures, at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in New Delhi, India, June 4, 2024. Adnan Abidi | ReutersThis report is from this week's CNBC's "Inside India" newsletter which brings you timely, insightful news and market commentary on the emerging powerhouse and the big businesses behind its meteoric rise. Far from rewarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party with a supermajority — as polls had predicted — Indians elected 240 BJP lawmakers to India's 543-seat Parliament, which falls short of a simple majority for Modi's party. However, as the largest party, the BJP will form a coalition government thanks to its alliance with smaller parties ahead of the elections. This "radical transformation" is expected to lead to a significantly more efficient economy and help India's currency, according to Sullivan.

Dollar steadies before inflation test; yen brushes off Tokyo CPI
  + stars: | 2024-05-31 | by ( ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +4 min
The dollar was licking wounds against peer currencies on Friday after a downward revision to U.S. GDP for the first quarter suggested room for rate cuts this year, while investors braced for inflation data. The dollar index , which measures the currency against six major peers, consolidated around 104.82 after dipping as low as 104.63 overnight. Softer U.S. consumer price inflation data earlier in May rekindled rate cut expectations for this year, weakening the dollar across the board and setting it on track to post its first monthly losses in 2024. "All told, the Tokyo CPI leaves us confident that nationwide underlying inflation will fall below 2% as soon as July." Price data for the euro zone is due on Friday, following a stronger-than-expected April inflation reading for Germany on Wednesday.

The term "Asian American" was first coined in 1968 amid the rising voices of the Third World Liberation Front student movements in California. With tensions from protests against the Vietnam War and calls for universities to invest in ethnic studies programs, the Asian American identity was born out of advocacy for multiethnic unity among the Asian diaspora. Historical photographs showcase the history of Asian American resistance movements from the 1960s to the 1980s, demonstrating the strength and resilience of the Asian American community among tenants, students, and laborers. For the next five years, Filipino and Mexican American workers continued to strike for economic justice for all farm workers. CNN —As we near the end of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed. Regina Kim Courtesy Regina KimBut too often, efforts to honor the contributions of Asian Americans, however well-intentioned, fall short because people fail to differentiate between Asian Americans and Asian communities outside the US. A recent study by the Asian American Foundation found that over half of Americans can’t name a single famous Asian American. This may be one reason why so many Americans can’t name any Asian Americans of note. The media needs to make a conscientious effort to seek out, identify and spotlight Asian Americans — and not just during AANHPI Heritage Month.

That means the iconic profession is not only drastically underrepresenting Asian Americans, but historical data shows the community isn't making up ground like other minority populations. While the federal data may shock those outside the community, it connects to a long-documented problem of those who have historically held power mentoring others who look like them. Yet there has never been an Asian American judge appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
