ET on Friday, TMZ fessed up: BEYONCE NOT AT DNC AFTER ALL, it acknowledged. "To quote the great Beyoncé: We gotta lay our cards down, down, down ... we got this one wrong." It's that in 2024, for much of the modern media world, a TMZ report is pretty close to accepted fact. To me, TMZ's big breakthrough as a Real News Source was when it broke the news of Michael Jackson's death in 2009. And if you still aren't convinced, see this tweet from CNN's Abby Phillip, who declared that "TMZ lost a lot of credibility tonight."

Tech billionaire Elon Musk’s highly anticipated online event with former President Donald Trump was delayed Monday by technical difficulties as some users of Musk’s X app said they couldn’t access the discussion. Ron DeSantis launched his Republican presidential bid on X and was repeatedly disrupted because the site’s servers apparently couldn’t handle the surge in traffic. The event came as Trump has scaled back his in-person appearances after a would-be assassin shot at him at a July 13 rally in Pennsylvania. Some X users said they believed the problem was X’s technical capabilities, rather than an attack. ET, the yield on the 10-year Treasury was up by less than one basis point to 3.9150%. The 2-year Treasury yield was last less than one basis point higher to 4.0188%. Treasury yields were little changed on Tuesday as investors looked to the release of key inflation data amid uncertainty about the state of the U.S. economy. Following recent market turmoil and economic uncertainty, questions have also emerged about whether the Fed should have already started cutting rates to avoid a hard landing.

CNN —Former President Donald Trump on Monday posted on X – formerly known as Twitter – for the first time in nearly a year ahead of his conversation on the platform later in the day with X owner and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Trump regularly asserts on the campaign trail that he is a victim of what he calls “political persecution,” and the video appears to amplify that claim. The more that a broken system tells you that you’re wrong, the more certain you should be that you must keep pushing ahead,” Trump says in the voiceover. The video also includes lines that are staples of Trump’s campaign speeches, including: “They want to take away my freedom, because I will never let them take away your freedom. And we will liberate America from these villains once and for all.”And in another post, Trump asked, “Are you better off now than you were when I was president?”“Our economy is shattered.

Elon Musk’s live conversation with former president Donald J. Trump on X got off to a glitchy start on Monday, a setback for the social media service as Mr. Musk pushes the company to regain its dominance as an online epicenter of political discourse. Those who were able to get the livestream to work were met with hold music. The Spaces event was originally scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Eastern. Mr. Musk blamed a cyberattack known as a distributed denial of service attack, or DDoS, for the glitches. DDoS attacks work by flooding servers with malicious traffic and knocking them offline.

When Donald Trump was president, he used Twitter to set policy, attack his critics and appeal to his followers. Trump is scheduled to appear tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern on X for an interview with the website’s owner, Elon Musk. For Trump, the event could offer an opportunity to regain some of the spotlight from Harris, whose new and energetic candidacy has forced his campaign to recalibrate its strategy less than three months before Election Day. Polls by The New York Times and Siena College released this weekend showed Harris with leads in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. “When I talk to Trump allies and advisers, many of them view the last three weeks as Trump’s worst sustained performance in a very long time,” Jonathan Swan, our politics reporter, said.

Shortly after 8:20 p.m., Musk, the billionaire Tesla and SpaceX CEO, blamed a cyberattack for the freezing screens. As the evening went on and the platform struggled to resolve the technical issue, Musk said that the interview would proceed at 8:30 E.T. "This massive attack illustrates there's a lot of opposition to people just hearing what President Trump has to say, but I'm honored to have this conversation," Musk said. In response to CNBC's request for comment about the technical delay, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung pointed to Musk's X post blaming a potential cyberattack. The glitch was reminiscent of X's technical disaster in 2023 that botched Florida Gov.

ET, the yield on the 10-year Treasury was up by more than two basis points to 3.9647%. U.S. Treasury yields were higher on Monday as investors looked ahead to the latest inflation prints and other key economic data slated for the week. Amid continued uncertainty about the state of the U.S. economy, investors looked ahead to fresh inflation data due this week. When the Fed met last month, it left rates unchanged, but hinted that a September rate cut was on the table, depending on signals from economic data, both on the inflation and labor market front. Markets are pricing in a 100% chance of a rate cut from the Fed in September, but traders were last split on the size of the cut, CME Group's FedWatch tool showed.

Speaking with NBC News at the presidential palace in Paris on Sunday, Macron expressed optimism about the potential for the global community to “do great things” together. He said he even appreciated the jokes about French clichés because France was able to show its unique landscapes, heritage and culture over the last two weeks. Macron did mention a few standouts, such as the opening ceremony on the Seine and the 22-year-old French swimmer Léon Marchand’s haul of gold medals. Asked how important the American vote is to the rest of the world, Macron said the U.S. leadership sets a tone for many other countries.
