At 5:30 a.m., US cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike tells customers that it was “aware of reports of crashes” of its software on Microsoft Windows operating systems, according to a company advisory viewed by CNN. Australian lenders ANZ and Westpac were also impacted, according to Downdetector, a website that tracks cyber outages. The decision by the General Court in Luxembourg gives new momentum to critics of Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, who led the bloc’s response to the pandemic. It came just ahead of what is expected to be a tight vote on Thursday that will determine if she will serve another term as the European Union’s top official. The European Union has refused to disclose the terms of the contracts it secured for Covid-19 vaccines, publishing redacted purchasing agreements. Green members of the European Parliament and private individuals had sued the commission, the bloc’s executive arm, seeking to gain access to the contracts and terms it negotiated with vaccine manufacturers. The court also said that the commission should have disclosed conflicts of interests by members of the team who negotiated the purchase of the vaccines.

It's entirely possible that there are Greenland sharks still living today that were swimming in the North Atlantic Ocean at the time. Some theories include the shark's slow growth rate and low metabolic rate, but research is ongoing. Scientists hope that unlocking the secrets of how these fish age could help humans live longer, healthier lives. "We want to look closely at some of these hallmarks to determine if the Greenland shark shows any signs of traditional aging," he said. While Greenland sharks' remarkable aging process has allowed them to survive centuries, it could also be a double-edged sword as their environment rapidly changes.

Betting against "antiskilled" finfluencers can yield a monthly 1.2% abnormal return. They added: "Furthermore, the social media sentiment by antiskilled finfluencers is highly persistent and induces long swings in the magnitude of their followers' belief bias." Given that antiskilled finfluencers tend to ride investing sentiment, their tone will follow the broader market attitude. That means that they'll tweet positively after a return, and negatively after a loss, while skilled accounts do the opposite.

A cyberattack on the telecommunications giant AT&T exposed data from “nearly all” of its customers and downloaded it to a third-party cloud platform, AT&T said on Friday. “We have taken steps to close off the illegal access point,” AT&T said in a statement. The company said it was working with law enforcement to arrest those involved, and that at least one person had been apprehended. The compromised data included files containing AT&T records of calls and texts from cellular customers, wireless network customers and landline customers between May 2022 and October 2022, and records from Jan. 2, 2023, for a small number of customers, the company said. While the data does not include customer names, it is often possible to link a name to a phone number using online searches.

The nature of illegal lockouts means they are hard to track directly. One of the responding officers calls a sergeant over, who says there's nothing else they can do. While only 14% of lockout calls led to a police report, 86% of calls about shoplifting did. As they walk over, one of the officers tells the other to look up "illegal lockout" on his phone. A 2006 bill that would have defined illegal lockouts for all Illinois residents was defeated.
