Picking great stocks and avoiding disastrous investments enabled the Ranmore Global Equity Fund to beat the S & P 500 over the past two years, according to its fund manager. The fund, run by portfolio manager Sean Peche, returned 31% in 2023 compared to 24% for the S & P 500 . The Ranmore fund also outperformed its benchmark with 1.8% total returns in 2022 when the S & P 500 and broader indexes nearly fell into a bear market. The fund manager says they take a probability-based approach with many small positions rather than a few big bets. However, according to the fund manager, the market appears to be undervaluing its cash and securities.

The 47-year-old Navalny had been a leading critic of Putin, and Biden had said after meeting Putin in Geneva in June 2021 that Nalvany's death would risk devastating consequences for Putin. (Lunar New Year celebrations usually last more than two weeks, with Shehuo festival taking place on the season’s 15th and final day.) “In some villages, virtually the entire population has been mobilized to produce and sell Shehuo props,” the photographer writes in his book. The Israeli assault was launched in response to a Hamas attack on Israel in which Israel says 1,200 people were killed. "Instead we are spelling publicly the existing standards by the international law including the law of armed conflict." One section of the memorandum reminds recipients of U.S. military aid to "respect their obligations under international law and reduce the risk of civilian harm." Even if states say they are acting in self-defense, international rules regarding armed conflict apply to all participants in a war.

A single work of art can get into your system and stay there. I’ve been living with — haunted by — one by the Navajo composer and sound artist Raven Chacon since encountering it in the 2022 Whitney Biennial. Titled “Silent Choir (Standing Rock),” it had no visual element. Even then, the only sound was the rustle of breathing, of bodies shifting and of the high-up buzz of surveillance helicopters. The same year as the Biennial, Chacon was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for music for a different, more traditionally “musical” piece, “Voiceless Mass” (2021).

CNN —Hollywood star Tom Holland will play Romeo in Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet” in London’s West End later this year. The “Spiderman” star announced his new gig at the Duke of York’s Theater in a post on Instagram, marking his return from a mental health break. “Tom Holland is Romeo in Jamie Lloyd’s pulsating new vision of Shakespeare’s immortal tale of wordsmiths, rhymers, lovers and fighters,” the tagline on the production’s website reads. The engagement will be Holland’s first since he announced in June last year that he was taking a break from acting to protect his mental health. And it was not his salary, it was his first box-office bonus, not the whole box office, the first one.

"I would emphasize that the White House response was that we did not support or object to their sovereign decision," said the source, who request anonymity in order to discuss the issue. "The White House expressed that it is up to Ukraine to make its own sovereign decisions about its personnel," the source continued. The Washington Post was first to report that Ukraine had informed the White House of the plan to fire Zaluzhnyi.
