Ray Epps sued Fox News, saying host-turned-Twitter vlogger Tucker Carlson defamed him. Carlson accused him of being an FBI informant who incited the Capitol riot. According to the lawsuit, Epps and his wife, Robyn Epps, both listened to Fox News push falsehoods about the results of the 2020 election. "The lies that Fox told were heard by Ray and Robyn Epps, loyal Fox viewers and fans of Tucker Carlson and other Fox personalities," the lawsuit says. The conspiracy theory about Epps has been frequently advanced by Tucker Carlson, a Twitter vlogger who was fired by Fox News in April.

CNN —Three former high-ranking Fox executives are blasting Rupert Murdoch for Fox News’ role spreading disinformation in the public discourse. In a joint statement published Wednesday, the executives — Preston Padden, Ken Solomon, and Bill Reyner — expressed profound regret for their roles helping Murdoch build Fox in its early days. It’s only the latest lawsuit Fox News has faced for advancing false election conspiracy theories after Donald Trump was defeated at the ballot box in 2020. In that same month, Fox News also settled an election-related lawsuit with a Venezuelan businessman who had sued the network. Fox News is also facing another major defamation lawsuit from voting technology company Smartmatic, which is suing the network for $2.7 billion.

CNN —The BBC is ensnared in scandal — and its reporters are not shying away from covering it. On Tuesday, the British news organization broke news that a second young person had come forward to accuse one of its anchors — who still remains unnamed — of inappropriate behavior. The BBC reported that the person, whom the outlet described as in their 20s, was threatened by the host on an online dating app. The news came amid explosive allegations that the same BBC anchor paid a young person starting at age 17 for explicit photos. “And like with any other organization, BBC News has to ask BBC management or BBC services for responses and contact the BBC press office for official statements.”The note continues, “Occasionally BBC journalists approach senior managers for unplanned interviews - known as ‘doorsteps’ in the news business.

The judges ruled that Mr. Bolsonaro had violated Brazil’s election laws when, less than three months before last year’s vote, he summoned diplomats to the presidential palace and made baseless claims that the nation’s voting systems were likely to be rigged. By late Friday morning, four of the court’s seven judges had voted that Mr. Bolsonaro had abused his power as president when he convened the meeting with diplomats. One other judge voted that Mr. Bolsonaro had not abused his power, while two other judges were yet to vote. The decision would be a sharp and swift rebuke of Mr. Bolsonaro and his effort to undermine Brazil’s elections. Just six months ago, Mr. Bolsonaro was president of one of the world’s largest democracies.

CNN —Fox News will pay $12 million to settle a pair of major lawsuits brought by former producer Abby Grossberg, her lawyer said Friday. The settlement marks the fourth case Fox and its owners have put to an end this year, including the blockbuster Dominion defamation case, where the network paid out a whopping $787 million. In addition to the Dominion saga, Grossberg claimed that she suffered through a treacherous onslaught of workplace sexism and rampant misogyny. According to the lawsuits, Grossberg witnessed flagrant use of the C-word, male colleagues openly debating which female politicians were “more f–kable,” and was asked uncomfortable sexual questions. Fox News aggressively rebutted these claims while Grossberg’s lawsuits were pending.

Carlson has a potential ace up his sleeve: becoming a friendly witness for Smartmatic in its pending $2.7 billion lawsuit against Fox News. Fox fired Carlson just days after it agreed to pay $787.5 million to settle a defamation lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems. The judge previously ordered Fox to give Smartmatic all the discovery evidence in the Dominion lawsuit, handing Smartmatic a powerful weapon already. Fox News has contended that its actions are protected by the First Amendment and called Smartmatic's lawsuit an assault on free speech. "He's obligated to tell the truth regardless of whether he had been fired," Calvert said.

Fox News has named Jesse Watters as the newest star of its 8 p.m. ET primetime slot, as the network looks to boost ratings two months after ousting Tucker Carlson from the post. He is currently the host of the 7 p.m. opinion show "Jesse Watters Primetime," and appears regularly on "The Five," one of Fox News' highest rated programs. There was no sendoff for Carlson and his "Tucker Carlson Tonight," which had long been one of Fox's most-watched shows.

June 26 (Reuters) - Fox News said on Monday that network veteran Jesse Watters would be the host of a key prime-time slot left vacant by the exit of top-rated host Tucker Carlson. Watters will move to the 8 p.m. slot, starting July 17, with his opinion program "Jesse Watters Primetime", which was launched last year as a 7 p.m. show, Fox News said. Carlson's talk show, "Tucker Carlson Tonight," was the highest-rated cable news program among the same demographic on the most-watched U.S. cable news network. In the weeks following Carlson's departure, Fox had filled the 8 p.m. slot with "Fox News Tonight," which was hosted by a rotating crew of Fox News personalities. Tucker Carlson took a dig at his former employer Fox News after it backpedaled on its "wannabe dictator" chyron. This week, Fox News labeled President Joe Biden a "wannabe dictator" in chyron text. The "wannabe dictator" message was on-screen for 27 seconds, the website Mediaite reported. Then the company issued a public apology for the 27-second-long 'wannabe dictator' line," Carlson said on his Twitter show. Carlson referenced her comments on his Twitter show before suggesting in a sarcastic rant that Biden is actually a "wannabe dictator."

Fox News would likely prevail in a lawsuit against Carlson, says employment lawyer Peter Rahbar. Fox News earlier sent a cease-and-desist letter to Carlson over his new Twitter show, per Axios. Tucker Carlson has defied Fox News' cease-and-desist letter, an attempt to block him from hosting more episodes of his new Twitter show. As part of his contract, Fox News has exclusive access to Carlson's content, effectively barring him from appearing on other platforms until the end of 2024. "Tucker's contract is likely very similar to the ones Fox has entered into with all their talent," said Rahbar.

She later accused Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott of being complicit in the alleged coercion and claimed Fox’s lawyers deleted messages from her phone. Grossberg also made a number of eye-popping allegations about the workplace environment at Fox News, accusing the network of rampant sexism. Fox News previously said that Grossberg’s lawsuit was “riddled with false allegations.” The network repeatedly insisted that its lawyers always acted appropriately. Regardless, Grossberg’s eleventh-hour lawsuit unquestionably changed the course of Dominion’s case against Fox News, which ultimately settled for an unprecedented $787 million. Smartmatic, another election technology company suing Fox News, has also subpoenaed Grossberg to testify in its case against the network.

New York CNN —Fox News on Wednesday acknowledged that an onscreen banner calling President Joe Biden a “wannabe dictator” was inappropriate and said it had taken steps to address the situation internally. “The chyron was taken down immediately and was addressed,” a Fox News spokesperson told CNN in a statement. “WANNABE DICTATOR SPEAKS AT THE WHITE HOUSE AFTER HAVING HIS POLITICAL RIVAL ARRESTED,” the onscreen text read. Biden and his White House have repeatedly stressed that he does not involve himself in Justice Department investigations and have said that the DOJ works independently of the White House’s influence. But Fox is fighting another defamation case from Smartmatic, another voting technology company, which is seeking a staggering $2.7 billion in damages.

"Yes, Donald Trump is a flawed man, but his sins are minor compared to those of his persecutors," Carlson said. Fox accused Carlson of breaching his contract by starting a new show on Twitter, per an Axios report. The contract terms said Carlson's content would be exclusive through to the end of 2024, with his contract terminating in January 2025. Announcing his decision to launch the show, Carlson said Twitter was the only free-speech platform remaining in the world.

CNN —The White House is disgusted with Fox News — even more so than usual. Which is why, perhaps, the White House felt the need to formally respond, even though, typically, the Biden administration opts not to get in the mud with the network. Asked about the “dictator” charge on Wednesday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre replied, “There are probably about 787 million things that I can say about this. Meanwhile, White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates went nuclear on the outlet for its story about the pride flag.
