The percentage of older adults who drink each month is increasing — particularly for women, Koob said. And older adults who do drink do so more frequently than people younger than 65 years old, he added. The impacts of alcohol on things such as driving performance, reaction time, memory and balance are bigger in older adults than younger drinkers, he added. Combining alcohol and medication is also risky, and almost 90% of older adults are taking at least one medication regularly, Collier said. “One study found that older adults are more likely to experience depressed breathing than young adults following a combination of alcohol and opioids,” Koob said.

That's a lot of eggs in a few stocks, but you can't handle tracking more than 5 stocks. First, our recommendation is the first $10,000 be invested into a low-cost S & P 500 index fund. Keep in mind: A $1 million portfolio with only $10,000 in an S & P 500 index fund translates to a mere 1% weighting for that fund. That means, in theory, you could boost your S & P 500 index fund allocation to 40%. One final thought: Don't forget to factor cash into your portfolio weighting, which should be based on your near-to-medium-term outlook for the market.

Other Republicans in the House and Senate often simply shrug when asked about Trump’s agenda, pointing to policies they like and others they might support. Trump himself has suggested having a “very tiny little desk” on the Capitol steps so he can sign documents on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20, 2025. “On Day 1 of President Trump’s new administration, Americans will have a strong leader," said Karoline Leavitt, the campaign’s national press secretary. Republicans and Democrats resisted a White House effort to commandeer funds for a U.S.-Mexico border wall, leading to the longest government shutdown in history. Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who died in 2018, famously gave a thumbs-down to Trump's effort to repeal the health law known as the Affordable Care Act.

Walmart's internal systems had more than a dozen "major incidents" in the last two months alone. An additional two major incidents occurred this past weekend, the person said. Walmart's global technology platform runs the retailer's core business operations, including in-store point-of-sale systems, e-commerce, and distribution and fulfillment centers. Internal emails obtained by BI show that Walmart's business is interrupted by issues with its global tech platform at a far more frequent rate than previously reported. Tara Moore | Stone | Getty ImagesA 2% or 3% allocation is 'more than enough'Cryptocurrencies are digital assets, a category that should be considered an "alternative investment," Johnson said. Allocating 2% or 3% of one's investment portfolio to crypto is "more than enough," Johnson said. watch nowWhether investors buy in to crypto — and how much they hold — will depend on their tolerance and capacity for risk, Johnson said. However, that allocation would most likely not be appropriate for a 70-year-old investor who can't afford to subject their nest egg to major losses, Johnson said. "Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are a very speculative investment and involves a high degree of risk," investment strategists at Wells Fargo Advisors wrote in a note last year.

And some people opt to get their caffeine through energy drinks or caffeine pills. In rarer scenarios, an overconsumption of caffeine can lead to a state called caffeine intoxication or caffeine overdose. Caffeine intoxication occurs when a person has dangerously high levels of caffeine in the system. Mark Robinson, the Republican nominee for governor of North Carolina, has for some reason not bothered to take down his old Facebook posts about the Jews. He regularly argued on Facebook that focusing on the evils of Nazism obscured the greater danger: the one represented by the Democratic Party. He has refused to apologize for these statements, though he called them “poorly worded” and has denied that he’s antisemitic. None of this appears to have hurt Robinson with the Republican electorate in North Carolina, where on Tuesday he won nearly 65 percent of the vote in the gubernatorial primary. But Robinson is a reminder that in electoral politics, there is far more tolerance for antisemitism in the Republican Party than the Democratic one.
