Investors say it feels like a make-or-break moment for the Solana network, but they're optimistic it'll pull through. "Every community has to have a crucible moment," said Avichal Garg, a managing partner at venture capital firm Electric Capital. "FTX really helped construct this ecosystem, they put a lot of money and resources behind it and helped the flywheel get going," Garg said. On the bright side, whatever amount of Solana tokens was locked on the FTX exchange can't be sold now. However, those close to the Solana community have been strongly encouraged by growth trends in its developer base.
Bitcoin and most cryptos extended losses Wednesday as worries built about the FTX fallout. Sol plunged 31% and the crypto market cap dropped 11% on fears the troubles would spread. In a stunning turn of events, FTX CEO Sam-Bankman Fried announced Tuesday that the crypto exchange had agreed to be taken over by rival Binance. The emergency deal sent chills through the crypto world, reviving fears about liquidity risks that could lead to company collapses. The overall value of the crypto market dropped over 11% to $871 billion over the last day, according to CoinMarketCap data.
Cryptocurrencies were under pressure for a second day Wednesday as the market digested the fallout of Binance's planned bailout of FTX. The Solana token continued its slide. "This is an adverse event for the Solana ecosystem in the short run. Further, given FTX/Alameda's balance sheet situation, there may be near term pressure on its Solana holdings, as the situation resolves." The crypto market briefly spiked on Tuesday after Bankman-Fried, also known as SPF, announced that Binance will acquire its non-U.S. operations but plummeted shortly after.
Binance reached an agreement to purchase Sam Bankman-Fried's crypto exchange FTX on Tuesday. Here's what happened as FTX went from market heavyweight to being acquired by a rival. Balance sheets and billionairesBankman-Fried's empire is diverges in two branches: FTX, a cryptocurrency exchange, and Alameda Research, a crypto trading firm. The price of other cryptocurrencies including Solana's SOL, bitcoin, and ether dropped Tuesday as well, as worries seeped across the broader crypto market. "Binance is likely coming in and saying they will cover the liabilities for FTX, and then effectively have FTX hand over the rest of their assets."
In the final days of a bitterly fought Senate campaign, Nevada Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto wants voters to know that 14 members of her rival’s family have chosen to endorse her — not him. “Today we, the undersigned members of the Laxalt family, are writing in support of the re-election of Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto for the U.S. Senate. Cortez Masto’s campaign, in statewide television ads, accused Adam Laxalt of cashing in on his family name even though he was raised in the East Coast. In October, Laxalt responded to the letter from his 14 family members, tweeting: "It’s not surprising that once again a handful of family members and spouses, half of whom do not live in Nevada, and most of whom are Democrats, are supporting a Democrat,"It's the second time Laxalt family members have endorsed his opponent. Former President Barack Obama at a rally for Cortez Masto and other Nevada Democrats this week poked fun at the Laxalt family dynamic.

The maker of Europe's top-selling beer Heineken, along with Sol and Tiger lagers said beer volumes rose by 8.9% on a like-for-like basis in the third quarter, with the strongest increase in Asia, but compared with the 12.0% average market expectation. RBC Capital Markets, which has an 'underperform' rating for Heineken, said Europe's 1.3% sales increase clearly missed expectations. Heineken reported a 68% increase in its beer sales in the Asia-Pacific region in the July-Sept period, a year on from COVID-19 lockdowns, notably in its main Asian market Vietnam. Unlike in other regions, beer sales in Europe remain below 2019 levels. Heineken said pressure on disposable income was in part to blame for a decline in sales in Nigeria, although its premium beer sales rose by more than a third.

Eight Pine-Sol disinfectant cleaning products are being recalled over fears they may contain infection-causing bacteria, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Tuesday. The Pine-Sol Scented Multi-Surface Cleaners, CloroxPro Pine-Sol All Purpose Cleaners, and Clorox Professional Pine-Sol Lemon Fresh Cleaners produced at a plant in Forest Park, Georgia, may contain the natural bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which can cause infections in those with compromised immune systems, the commission said in a statement. Clorox, the parent company of the Pine-Sol brand, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. "The bacteria can enter the body if inhaled, through the eyes, or through a break in the skin," it said. Included are the Lavender Clean, Sparkling Wave and Lemon Fresh scents of Pine-Sol Scented Multi-Surface Cleaners; the Lavender Clean, Sparkling Wave, Lemon Fresh and Orange Energy scents of CloroxPro Pine-Sol All Purpose Cleaners; and Clorox Professional Pine-Sol Lemon Fresh Cleaners, the commission said.

If someone has a recalled Pine-Sol bottle, the agency says to throw it away and contact Pine-Sol for a refund.
Many people sit on a gym machine and turn on autopilot as their muscles follow a controlled movement. But in coming years these exercises will be supplemented with neuromuscular drills like jumping laterally and landing on one leg, sports-medicine experts say. Those exercises use movements to train the brain to fire the correct muscles. Now mainly used to rehab pro athletes with injuries, neuromuscular training is likely to become a complement to strength and cardio workouts for aging baby boomers that can help them re-establish temporary losses in muscle strength and mobility.

Despite the growth and consumer power of U.S. Latinos, they continue to be significantly underrepresented in media, according to a new report. On TV shows, Latinos made up 3.1% of lead actors, 2.1% of co-leads/ensemble actors and 1.5% of showrunners. There are no Latino CEOs or film and production company chairs, important decision-making roles that help greenlight stories and steer content. Amid the lack of representation, more Latinos are turning to social media platforms and brands for content, such as YouTube, TikTok and Snapchat, the report found. The report also noted that 11 of the 20 most streamed songs of the summer, according to Spotify, are by Latino artists.
LDC is a nonprofit, nonpartisan group focused on reshaping perceptions of U.S. Latinos through data and economic research. In 2020, Latino consumption was measured at $1.84 trillion. Three-quarters of the Latino population were concentrated in just 10 states in 2020: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina and Texas. According to the report, Latino growth staved off a decline in the population and labor force in three states — New Jersey, New York and Illinois — from 2010 to 2018. As a result, Latino real GDP contracted a small amount in 2020, by 0.8% compared to 4.4% for non-Latinos.

As David Solomon, Goldman Sachs' CEO, was wrapping up a work trip in late July, he boarded the company's Gulfstream G650 for Chicago. His personal account cites his role as Goldman Sachs' CEO, while his official Goldman Sachs account links to his personal account. As CEO, Solomon has overseen the firm's first investor day, launched a strategic update, and reaped record revenue of $59.3 billion in 2021. The Goldman representative disputed that characterization, saying the number of executive TV appearances has more than doubled over the past year. A Goldman representative said that Payback is run by music-industry consultants and that no Goldman Sachs resources are used for the platform.
A survey conducted by the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA), showed that about one-third of traditional hedge funds are investing in digital assets. Approximately one-third of the panel discussions revolved around digital assets, according to SkyBridge Capital's Anthony Scaramucci. And while some funds may still be grappling with the question of how much exposure they should allocate to digital assets, Scaramucci is pedaling forward. Long term, he believes in the appreciation of digital assets, and he's willing to pay the price of absorbing the volatility in the meantime. The pivot to digital assetsSkyBridge has pivoted heavily into crypto and blockchain technology from its traditional hedge fund of funds business.

North Jutland, DenmarkSouthern Europe swells with crowds during summer, and it can also get hot to the point of extremely uncomfortable in July and August. Temperatures in Seville and other spots in southern Spain recently exceeded the 110˚ Fahrenheit mark (43.3 Celsius).
