New York CNN —Attorneys for Sean “Diddy” Combs filed a motion late Wednesday accusing the government of leaking a video of the hip-hop mogul beating his former girlfriend and other evidence to the media, asking a judge to potentially bar the footage from a trial. The motion filed by Combs’ attorneys also alleges that authorities alerted the media about the searches in March of his homes in Los Angeles and Miami. His attorneys claim the alleged leaks make it hard for Combs to get a fair trial. Spokespersons for HSI New York and the US attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York declined to comment. Following the release of the video, Combs apologized.

Russian troops have been using Discord to coordinate drone attacks, but it was banned on Tuesday. Federal regulators said they blocked the gaming messaging platform because it could be used for crime. Discord allows users to join a closed group voice call and livestream to other users from their screens or cameras. One pundit channel, Military Informant, blasted Roskomnadzor's decision as "madness," while another sarcastically thanked the regulator for giving Russian troops another challenge to "bypass the consequences of another wise decision." Discord, Roskomnadzor, and the Russian defense ministry did not immediately respond to comment requests sent outside regular business hours by Business Insider.

Garth Brooks, the country superstar, has named the woman who, as Jane Roe, accused him of rape and sexual assault in a bombshell lawsuit last week. In a court filing in Mississippi on Tuesday, lawyers for Mr. Brooks portrayed the star as “the victim of a shakedown” and said the woman’s lawyers had “flouted” the authority of a judge in a related case. Litigation over the woman’s accusations began last month with a lawsuit that was filed anonymously — as John Doe v. Jane Roe — in federal court in Mississippi. In a response, lawyers for the woman said they intended to sue the man in California, saying that “Ms. Roe respectfully requests that she may commence her California action as she intended to do, and use Mr. Doe’s name, absent objection from this Honorable Court.”

Lawyers for Sean Combs filed his bail appeal on Tuesday night. In US v Epstein, US v Maxwell, and US v Raniere, "the detention orders were supported by detailed factual findings and explicit weighing of the 3142(g) factors," the appeal read. Related stories"Mr. Combs believes the evidence will show that to the extent such activities occurred, all individuals who participated were adults voluntarily engaged in consensual sex," Combs lawyers wrote Tuesday. Autonomous taxis are winning over women in cities like San Francisco by offering an answer to a long-standing concern about ride-hailing apps: misbehavior by human drivers, especially men. Now, those driver safety concerns are helping to fuel the popularity of autonomous taxis — especially for women traveling alone or at night. About three-quarters of Lyft and Uber drivers are men, according to industry and academic surveys. Lyft said in a statement to NBC News that it continues to try to improve safety, including with driver background checks, driver ratings, driver education and an emergency phone line for passengers. In 2023, Lyft started a feature, Women+ Connect, that allows women or nonbinary drivers to opt in to prefer riders who are women or nonbinary, and vice versa.

BRUNSWICK, Germany — A suspect in the disappearance of British toddler Madeleine McCann was acquitted of unrelated sexual abuse charges by a court in the German city of Brunswick on Tuesday. Christian Brueckner has been formally identified as a suspect in the case of “Maddie” McCann, who disappeared from her bedroom in 2007 during a family holiday in Portugal. In the trial in Brunswick, which started in February, Brueckner faced three charges of aggravated rape and two of sexual abuse of children committed between 2000 and 2017. The disappearance sparked a media frenzy in Britain and Portugal as the McCanns sought publicity to help find their daughter. German police said in June 2020 that McCann was assumed dead and that Brueckner, in his 40s, was likely responsible for it, but they have never brought charges against him.

In the long list of issues with in-flight entertainment, passengers on a recent flight from Sydney to Tokyo may have been exposed to a new one: A sexually explicit movie playing on every screen. Australian airline Qantas has now apologized after the incident during a flight last week. Technical issues made individual movie selection unavailable, so a movie was selected out of a limited list for the entire flight based on a request from some passengers, the airline said. "The movie they played was extremely inappropriate," a passenger who said they were on the flight from Sydney to Tokyo's Haneda Airport, wrote on Reddit. “All screens were changed to a family friendly movie for the rest of the flight, which is our standard practice for the rare cases where individual movie selection isn’t possible," it added.

States sue TikTok over app's effect on kids' mental health

Schwalb's suit alleges a slew of "profound" mental health risks are posed to teens and children by compulsive TikTok use, including depression, anxiety, sleep loss and body dysmorphia. "TikTok knows that its design features make its App more addictive and keep users engaged for longer," the suit in D.C. Superior Court alleges. The complaint also says that in 2019, the company introduced "two new dangerous features": a live-streaming feature called TikTok LIVE and a virtual currency system called TikTok "Coins." TikTok incentivizes users to go LIVE by promising these monetary rewards 'the more popular [their] content becomes.'" The suit says that TikTok "earns substantial revenue" from its Coins, charging commissions of up to 50% on each transaction.

The Cleveland Browns fell to 1-4 with a loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday after yet another dispiriting performance by quarterback Deshaun Watson. After five games, Watson has thrown for only five touchdowns while tossing three interceptions. It has been a downward trend for Watson ever since he began playing for the Browns toward the end of the 2022 season. Even Watson’s former backup Flacco — who threw more touchdown passes than Watson in fewer games with the Browns last year — is playing better.
